On With The Dance! July 17, 2011

We are, all of us, in the process of becoming.
To become more fully who we were always meant to be, we need to embrace change, and dance in the midst of uncertainty.
When nothing is certain, all things are possible.
Nothing in nature is stagnant ~ neither should we be. We are not who we once were.
Because of our routines, we forget that life is an ongoing adventure. ~ Maya Angelou
We need to re-consider self-imposed boundaries.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own. ~ Dan Zadra
We need to shake ourselves loose from our moorings, delve into the unknown, and explore new vistas.
Throw off the bowlines, sail away from safe harbors. Catch the tradewinds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. ~ Mark Twain
Boats are safe in harbor, but that’s not what boats are for. ~ Michael Lillie
Consistency is over-rated. If life becomes predictable, let’s create ourselves anew.
Boredom arises from routine. Joy, wonder, rapture, arise from surprise. ~ Leo Buscaglia
People who conform to the expectations of others reside in a world that is far more black and white than mine.
Everything is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. ~ Kobi Yamada
The changes we make will not always be appreciated by others ~ there is an advantage to not getting too bogged down with what others think.
We have as many reputations as acquaintances . . . and none is accurate.
Sharing what we’ve learned with other seekers enriches us, emboldens us, and encourages us to continue to expand our horizons.
Dear comerado! I confess I have urged
you onward with me, and still urge you,
without the least idea what is our destination,
Or whether we shall be victorious, or utterly quell’d and defeated.
Walt Whitman, Leaves of Grass
Here’s to the dawning of a day filled with the uncertainty which arises with all exciting new adventures!
On with the dance! Let joy be unconfined. ~ Lord Byron

Throw protocol to the four winds!!!!
AND LET US LIVE…..
Damn the torpedos . . . full steam ahead! 😀
Throw off the chains that bind us!!!
AND LET US LIVE…..
Be happy while you’re living, for you’re a long time dead. ~ Scottish Proverb
Dance then, wherever you may be… or just dance like no one is watching.
I knew that I had used some of the lyrics to Lord of the Dance in a post . . . so I went looking for them . . . and found this:
Another post I titled “On With The Dance!” 😀
And the post also included:
Dance as if no one is watching, sing as if no one is listening; and live as if each day were your last! ~ Irish Proverb
Let’s dance on!
thanks again for being absolutely where I need to be right now….x
Excellent . . . I love when our attention is drawn to where it needs to be. 😀
Dance on!
We are not what we once were – you said it. And will will not be what we are right now as we are ever changing and growing.
It makes me want to laugh out loud when someone prefaces a “criticism” with:
“Well, you USED to like/do/be/say . . . ”
Consistency is so over-rated.
I expect it’s because people want to be able to predict future behavior from past behavior ~ so they don’t really have to pay attention to anyone. 😀
Here’s to uncertainty and unpredictability.
Very nice round up, even if it was duckless!
Quack! 😀
My daughter’s a dancer so, of course, I love the title and the pictures.
and the inspiration…hugs. 🙂
Awesome. I’m a dancer at heart . . . even though it’s been years since I danced as the Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker. 😉
We are not what we once were…boy do I need to remember that this week! thanks.
Here’s hoping that your week exceeds your expectations. 🙂
Nancy, that first photo is dazzling! Do you know who took the photo? Also appreciate Walt Whitman’s quote. I hadn’t heard it before.
It’s Martha Graham dancing, but I don’t know who took it. And I just looked around to try to figure out where I found it . . . with no luck.
Most of my photos come from Wikipedia or Avatarist.com, but I’m not sure about that one.
Thanks for that information, Nancy. How did Martha Graham know just how to hold her hand? Graceful and poised.
She was quite the dancer and choreographer ~ even so, I’m sure some shots of her in mid-air were “duds.” 😀
Try everything at least once and grab each opportunity as it arises. Live each day like it is our last, for we know not what tomorrow brings!
Agreed. Nothing ventured, something lost. Tomorrow’s life may be too late.
I like the quote about everything being a once-in-a-lifetime experience. If we don’t get caught up in the mundane aspects of life, that is very true.
When we walk around with that “been there, done that” feeling, we are not as open to THIS moment as we could be.
We will never pass this way again.
“Boats are safe in harbor, but that’s not what boats are for.” – Michael Lillie
Nancy, I had never heard this before…but I absolutely love it. I was the boat in the harbor for much of my life…but as I’ve gotten older (there has to be something good about aging), and especially since my book has been published, I’m testing many new waters. 🙂
Thanks for a wonderful post…GREAT quotes!
Thanks, Vivian. That’s been a favorite of mine for years. When I’m feeling “skittish” that quote reminds me to “sail on.”
Let Billow Your Sails! 😀
You’ve done it again, put my thought process into words. Onwards and forwards, let’s go!
Excellent! Let’s try something new and different. A little out of the ordinary. A change of pace.
Aah . . . that’s interesting!
I love the inspirational quotes you always put in to your posts. Do you have a book of them?
Thanks, Tilly. I’ve collected quotes for years. I did a series of 26 posts last fall ~ Aphorisms from Aa to Zz. I sometimes harvest quotes from those posts.
I also keep a book of quotes on my desk: Be Happy ~ Remember to Live, Love, Laugh, and Learn. All but the Whitman and Lord Byron quotes came from it.
The Universe led me to the book when I needed it most:
Love the Boats in the harbor quote. The trouble sometimes is to figure out whether you are a boat or an airplane…..An airplane sitting on the ramp is not what it was designed for and still might not be safe while sitting there.
True. Of course, even a boat in harbor is not safe from the hurricanes and tsunamis of life. All the more reason to move and explore new horizons, not sit still and stagnate.
Sail on silver bird . . .
Bravo to life and dance and more… Love that Martha Graham shot! 🙂
Beauty in motion. Her fluid nature inspires me to move it! 😀
