Looks like today’s the day . . .

The visitor counter is at 99,947.

Only 53 visitors needed to roll the odometer over to 100,000!

Let the countdown begin!

Will you be THE 100,000th visitor?  Time will tell.  Just post the counter number (bottom right widget) in your comment.

Let’s see who hits it “on the nose.”

Yesterday’s WP Prompt asked whether people are too dependent on technology.

While that depends on the person and the technology, I have noticed the increasing paradox of technology:

1.  Technology has worked to our benefit and our detriment.  We have more “free time”  but we don’t always use it wisely.

2.  Technology simplifies our lives while making our lives more complex.

As labor saving devices have grown more sophisticated, they have become more difficult to repair using rubber bands, scotch tape, and paper clips.

3.  Technology brings us closer together while pushing us farther apart ~ with improved transportation, extended families are spread out across entire countries and continents rather than remaining in close-knit communities.

4.  Technology makes cyber communication easier than ever while making it more difficult for us to feel truly connected:

* People friend (and unfriend) virtual strangers on FB with the click of a button and little or no exchange of “real” information

* Instead of talking with family around the dinner table or sitting on front porches, stoops, and fire escapes to chat with passers-by, we converse in cyber space or via text for hours on end . . . saying next to nothing.

* We “hang out” with friends in chat rooms, and flip through their photos on Facebook, without ever being in the same room.

* Sometimes, when we are physically present with friends and family, we are miles away as we surf the net and text our cyber pals.

And, then, there’s . . . HootSuite n : yet another layer of technology to coordinate all the other layers of technology that keep us from living in the real world.

Of course, advances in technology have made life cleaner, fresher, safer, and more palatable in many ways:

* Refrigeration eases meal preparation.
* Air Conditioning reduces perspiration.
Answering machines buffer us from “civilization.”
Indoor plumbing and toilet paper aid evacuation.

Although I’m a bit of a tree hugger, toilet paper is a  convenience worth its weight in pulp to me.

It’s sanitary and it’s a real time saver . . .

Just wipe and flush ~ no need to air dry your ass.

As far as I’m concerned, toilet paper is one of the best inventions ever.

I just can’t imagine greeting overnight guests with, “So great to see you!  Here’s your towel, your wash cloth, and . . . your butt wipe.”

Basic 2-ply technology will always be in demand . . . in our house anyway.
