Want to learn something new about the world and its inhabitants, without blowing big bucks for air or bus fare?

Consider renting some educational entertainment for your next movie or date night.

IMAX films allow viewers to travel inside caves, under seas, across deserts, through tornadoes and hurricanes, and into outer space, all from the comfort and safety of your living room couch.

Viewers can swim with dolphins, be a co-pilot in a NASCAR race, climb Mt. Everest (without fear of frostbite), or hang out with lions, giraffes, and zebras on the Serengeti.

The photography is spectacular, and the “behind the scenes” footage gives viewers a true appreciation for the dangers and challenged faced by the film crew to capture the amazing images on film.

Study the lives and habits of migrating birds . . . from a bird’s eye view while watching Winged Migration.

Or just visit someplace you’ve never been . . . but always wanted to go.

Travel Documentaries allow viewers to tour the globe, without worrying about Montezuma’s Revenge, lost luggage, or the currency exchange rate.

Viewers can visit Ireland, Wales and Scotland in the morning, tour the Australian Outback in the afternoon, and travel up the Amazon River before calling it a day and hitting the hay.

One series, Rick Steve’s Europe, provides armchair travelers with the inside scoop on local customs, history, art, and cuisine in Italy, Greece, Spain, France, England, Scotland, Ireland, Portugal, Turkey, and more.

Instructional Videos and taped lecture series present information on far-ranging topics ~ hobbies, cooking, career, finance, healthy living, and meta-physics

You can rent DVD’s addressing health and wellness issues, such as yoga for stress relief, and meditation.

You can even learn a foreign language. Parlez vous francais?

Documentaries give us a chance to explore this amazingly diverse planet, and expand our horizons, for less than the price of admission to the latest Hollywood blockbuster.

No rules.  Just write!

What about you?  Do you enjoy exploring the world from the comfort of your own living room?  Have documentaries opened your eyes, mind, or heart?
