170px-alice_par_john_tenniel_30The other day, BFF and I were driving down the road.

After recounting a story of no import to this tale, I launched into a German accent:  “Und zen, vhat ve have here iz . . . ”

I often parody and parrot voices ~ French, English, Southern, Joysey, Longysland, Irish, Scottish, Bahston, Canadian, Monty Python, etc.

German, however, is NOT in my usual repertoire.

BFF stared at me.

I stopped talking (since I didn’t really know where I was headed anyway) and said, “what’s up with the look?”

He laughed, “You’re a mind reader . . . with a very bad German accent to boot.”

“Why do you say that?’

“Seconds before you switched from speaking in your normal voice to your still-needs-work German accent, I had a passing thought:  Who wouldn’t want to chat with my little Einstein?

“Really?”

“Yup.  As soon as I thought Einstein, you switched gears to German.”

“Cool!  I’m a mind reader . . . AND a little Einstein! ”

This is NOT the first time I’ve picked up on one of BFF’s thoughts.  And I trust it won’t be the last.

It’s always fun to get a wink from the Universe reminding me that we are all connected to the World Wide Web . . . even if we don’t own a Smart Phone.

Aah . . . that’s better!

I love that we can transmit and receive, all without handheld electronics. Our own CPUs are remarkable!

nrhatch - July 31, 2014

They are, VG! Sometimes our intuition gives us the “inside scoop” even across the miles. With no static!

valleygrail - July 31, 2014

Absolutely!

nrhatch - July 31, 2014

Here’s to being Awake and Aware! 😎

2. Val Boyko - July 31, 2014

Its confirmed … we live in the Twilight Zone.
doo do doo do
doo do doo do
doo do doo do
doo do doo do
… if this was an episode I wonder what would have happened next !?!
Heil!

nrhatch - July 31, 2014

We laughed about the odd-incidence for a few minutes and then wandered off into other territory.

3. Jill Weatherholt - July 31, 2014

I always knew you were smart, Nancy. You don’t own a Smart Phone? I thought I was the last person in the world who didn’t. 🙂

nrhatch - July 31, 2014

No. No smart phone. I have a tidy little cell phone in my purse for emergencies, pre-loaded with $100 (400 minutes).

At the end of the year, I have $90 (360 minutes) remaining.

If I spent more time “out and about” or “on the road,” I might want to be connected. For now, I love that they minute I step away from my computer, I’ve pressed the *disconnect* button.

Jill Weatherholt - July 31, 2014

You and me both, Nancy!

nrhatch - July 31, 2014

The other night, we were walking on the beach at sunset. Most folks were focused on the descending sun . . . but I saw a few peeps wandering around staring at hand held devices.

Technology often disconnects us from the present moment.

4. Silver in the Barn - July 31, 2014

You may remember my mother is German? And so growing up, all five of us kids perfected our German accents – often to her dismay. We’ll have to have a “conversation” one day, Nancy. And by the way, I love this story.

nrhatch - July 31, 2014

Thanks, Barbara ~ BFF is 1/2 German, 1/2 Irish but his accent is all Joysey.

With most of my accents, I have a few standard phrases or select words I do well. I muddle the rest. That said, I would love to sit down and have a conversation one day, no accents required.

5. katecrimmins - July 31, 2014

This is the next step after finishing each other’s sentences!

nrhatch - July 31, 2014

Or the step BEFORE finishing each other’s sentences ~ figuring out what’s coming next and beating them to the punchline.

But this thought of his was way out in “left field.” I’m surprised I caught it at all.

katecrimmins - July 31, 2014

Your antenna was tuned!

nrhatch - July 31, 2014

It’s amazing what we can hear when we tune in and LISTEN.

6. Pix Under the Oaks - July 31, 2014

What Kate said! I can just see you two in the car, I would have been cracking up.. 😀

nrhatch - July 31, 2014

Thanks, Pix. Some of our conversations are hilarious. Others are far more mundane. But I do love these little Winks, Whispers, and Nudges from the Universe ~ reminding me of the connection.

OMG . . . I wonder if any one ELSE is reading our minds? 😯

7. William D'Andrea - July 31, 2014

“Longysland”? I’ve heard that we do have an accent, which sounds like “Welcome to Lawn-guy-lund!” That is the proper pronunciation.

nrhatch - July 31, 2014

Is Lawn Guy Land next to Pool Boy Land? 😎

William D'Andrea - August 2, 2014

I haven’t the slightest “idear”. That’s another L.I. mispronunciation, which I fortunately never use.

8. Grannymar - July 31, 2014

When Jack was alive, he would be thinking about something and continue aloud midway. I was supposed to know that he was on about. I soon learned. It made for some interesting conversations!

Paula Tohline Calhoun - July 31, 2014

Oh, my goodness, Grannymar! You are not in the least the only one! My hubs of 39 years and I never argue unless one has failed to read the other’s mind. The thing is, we usually do! 😆

nrhatch - July 31, 2014

Great to be in tune with one’s life partner. BFF and I will often pause in conversation, each following one’s own line of thought for a time, until one speaks out loud. More often than not, the other has arrived at just the same point . . . via a different route.

9. Paula Tohline Calhoun - July 31, 2014

Very swift indeed! And always fun. When Ashley and I first got “serious,” we were riding in the car somewhere (he was driving), and as an impatient motorcyclist reared around past us, we both simultaneously broke out singing the then current jingle, “Kawasaki makes the good times roll!” We still laugh about it. It was thebeginning of a life time of such things, synchronicities, God-incidences. . .

Thought I would take a break, drop by, say “Hi!” and check up on you and BFF. Things look great, as usual!

nrhatch - July 31, 2014

Hi Paula! Good to see you out and about.

Great anecdote! And just think . . . you and Ashley are still letting the good time roll!

I read your post about Adam’s birthday. Nice to read how he found you and vice versa. Hope you’ve stopped spending so much time with Dr. Cutting. Thanks for stopping by.

10. jannatwrites - July 31, 2014

What a fun exchange! It’s always a bit strange when thoughts seem to be transferred like that 🙂

nrhatch - July 31, 2014

Things like this make me curiouser and curiouser about what’s behind the veil. One day I hope to see past the invisibility shield.

11. ericjbaker - July 31, 2014

I fint zees exchange betveen Frau Hatch unt her BBF to razzah unusual!

nrhatch - July 31, 2014

Zank you, Dr. Freuzian. I concur, “razzah unusual.”

And thanks also for reminding me where I first picked up a German accent ~> Hogan’s Heroes, from Sergeant Schultz (“I know nutting!”) and Colonel Klink!

ericjbaker - July 31, 2014

Hahaha. I almost types the Sgt. Schultz line as a comment but decided I’d rather try my own, uh, German accent.

nrhatch - July 31, 2014

Based on this short exchange, I’ve decided NOT to write a novel featuring a German immigrant with a strong accent. 😎

12. Eric Tonningsen - July 31, 2014

Which prompts the thought: what would happen if all mobile devices suddenly ceased working. Would life go on? Maybe more would become aware of and comfortable with their intuitive self. Imagine where that might lead…

nrhatch - July 31, 2014

A cataclysmic cell phone tower and satellite disintegration might cause some of the more intense techies to implode before our very eyes! *KABOOM*

Perhaps we’d see a greater melt-down than from a nuclear detonation.

13. Don - July 31, 2014

Wonderful things happen on that Web. 🙂

nrhatch - July 31, 2014

They do, indeed!

14. JOriginal Muse - July 31, 2014

This happens to me so much with quite a few close connections, that I often wonder what’s on the Other Side, as well… Maybe we’d see the ventriloquist’s mouth moving as we hear our own voices (with or without accents) coming from our own.

Incidents like these leave me in awe most of the time and sometimes a little creeped out, depending on who’s doing the transmitting and who’s doing the receiving and what the exchange is about 😉

15. In the Stillness of Willow Hill - July 31, 2014

What a fun coincidence! I had my own telepathic moment today. I suggested yesterday that one of the teachers I supervise needs to have some iPads for her intervention groups. Today…they appeared! They were just discovered “left behind” by a teacher whose class was cut…..and came directly to me.

nrhatch - July 31, 2014

That’s awesome! It’s great when things flow so seemlessly.

16. Behind the Story - August 1, 2014

The World Wide Web, and you and your BFF are connected off-line. I love it.

nrhatch - August 1, 2014

It’s a FUN bit of happenstance when it happens.

17. kateshrewsday - August 1, 2014

I’d love to map what happens at times like these. Remember the scholar in Jane Eyre who was busy researching twins and the uncanny synchronicities which can happen between them? There are more things in heaven and earth…

nrhatch - August 1, 2014

A few years ago, I read a fascinating article on Twins in National Geographic (I believe). They looked at several sets of twins separated at birth (with no physical contact) and found uncanny similarities in unexpected ways, means, and preferences.

I enjoy pondering these imponderables.

kateshrewsday - August 1, 2014

Me too 🙂

18. NancyTex - August 1, 2014

Very cool, NH. Pretty awesome when you get proof positive just how connected you are to someone.

nrhatch - August 1, 2014

Yes! Unless that special someone is on the FBI’s Most Wanted list ~ that would be awkward.

Loved your guest post today. Thanks for giving Kerry center stage.

NancyTex - August 1, 2014

Kerry’s been such a source of inspiration to me — particularly since suffering that devastating loss. I hope new eyes get to find her blog. She is fantastic!

nrhatch - August 1, 2014

I back-pedaled through some of her flood posts. Wow! That is a challenging situation ~ she is dealing with it like a champ.

19. Three Well Beings - August 2, 2014

It’s a lovely connection when you can literally complete one another’s sentences, and even better when you’re a mindreader. It shows me how close you are and that you spend a lot of time together, both important if you want to maintain BFF status!

nrhatch - August 2, 2014

We do spend a lot of time together. That helps. As does the fact that we share a sense of humor about inanities and oddities.
