Pretty SWIFT, eh? November 9, 2011

BFF and I watched Jeopardy’s Tournament of Champions this evening.

Alex Trebek announced the Final Jeopardy category . . . “18th Century Authors.”  As the players made their wagers, I said, “Jonathan Swift.”

“Jonathan Swift, what?”

“That’s going to be the answer.”

“Yeah, right.  Alex hasn’t even read the clue yet.”

“I know, but the answer is going to be:  Who is Jonathan Swift?”

BFF refused to believe I could know the answer before seeing the clue.  So, he  made what he assumed to be a safe wager:  “If you’re right, I’ll take off my clothes and streak through the living room three times.”

After the commercial break, Alex revealed the clue.  The exact wording escapes me, but here’s a close paraphrase:

He created a character Cadenus, an anagram of Decanus, for Dean.

Stumped, BFF said, “Well, Sherlock?  Do you have an answer?”

The clue didn’t ring any bells.  I’d never heard of a character called Cadenus.  I stood pat, “I already told you, the answer is . . .  Jonathan Swift.”

“Yeah, right.”

“That’s my answer.”

The first contestant wagered everything he had on “Thackery.”  He ended up with nothing.

The second and third contestants both had the correct answer . . . Who is Jonathan Swift?  They made it into the quarter finals.

BFF looked over, “How did you DO that?”

I grinned, “I don’t know.  I just knew I knew.  Pretty SWIFT, eh?”

I often know answers on Jeopardy that I can’t consciously explain . . . but this is the first time I knew the answer BEFORE Alex revealed the clue.

Aah . . . the marvelous synchronicities and mysteries of the Universe.

When we know what we cannot know . . . we’ve seen a glimpse beyond the veil.

From Google Answers:

As early as 1713, Swift wrote a long poem called “Cadenus and
Vanessa”.  It is an autobiographical poem about his relationship with
Esther Vanhomrigh, in which he uses the name “Cadenus” as a pseudonym for himself. Swift created the name “Cadenus” from an acronym of the Latin word “decanus” (dean), and Jonathan Swift was in fact the dean of the Anglican St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin from 1713 to 1742. And Vanessa, the character who represented Esther Vanhomrigh in the poem, got her name by combining the “Van” from “Vanhomrigh” with “Essa”, a pet form of “Esther”.

BFF reneged on his wager . . . I knew he would.  😉

Thought to Ponder:  The quieter your mind becomes . . . the more you hear.

Aah . . . that’s better!

Haha, was going to ask if BFF kept his promise. LOL. You are picking answers intuitively. I love the mysteries of the universe.

nrhatch - November 9, 2011

I often feel “tuned into intuition” . . . but love getting periodic feedback that the intuitive answers I’m receiving are, indeed, “on the money.”

As for BFF . . . I knew he would renege. Some veils are not meant to see behind. 😉

2. Tilly Bud - November 9, 2011

That’s the fourth post to mention synchronicity in as many days.

nrhatch - November 9, 2011

I loved getting confirmation of “intuitive knowingness” . . . it reminds me that Spirit does, indeed, Light The Way! 💡

3. Team Oyeniyi - November 9, 2011

Intriguing experience. I’m disappointed BFF didn’t keep his word though. That’s not fair.

nrhatch - November 9, 2011

I didn’t mind . . . getting a wink from the Universe was enough of a winning “streak” for one night. 😉

4. Judson - November 9, 2011

When stumped on Hollywood Squares, the venerable Wally Cox would always answer … “Gregory Peck” …

nrhatch - November 9, 2011

How often was he right? 😀

5. Tammy - November 9, 2011

I agree that the quieter we become, the more we hear. And I believe that if we’d slow down and listen, we’d all be amazed at what we know. Good for you for already being there Nancy.

nrhatch - November 9, 2011

Sometimes. I’m “there” sometimes. This affirmation of intuitive knowingness made me grin from ear to ear.

When we know IT is the answer (without knowing how we know), we’re left to wonder whether we learned IT at some distant point in the past.

When we know IT is the answer BEFORE the question is voiced . . . we know we got IT straight from the source. Woot!

6. suzicate - November 9, 2011

Now I want to know if BFF streaked through the living room three times? Even once? I find it amazing when I come up with something I’d never have known on my own…doesn’t happen that often but is really cool when it does!

nrhatch - November 9, 2011

Nope, he reneged.

First, he accused me of cheating. Then, he claimed he was still digesting his dinner. Finally, he opined that the shock of my intuitive knowingness left him too unsteady to streak.

I didn’t mind . . . getting a wink from the Universe was enough of a “winning streak” for one night. 😉

7. Jackie L. Robinson - November 9, 2011

Wow…absolutely amazing. There is no limit to the truth we carry inside, even and especially when we don’t recognize it ourselves. Love that you trusted your intuitive ‘hit’ and were able to validate that voice inside so quickly. xoxo

nrhatch - November 9, 2011

I trust my intuition. When it screams “LEAP” . . . I leap without waiting for “the net” to appear. My life, as a whole, is constant and continuing “validation” to me of our intuitive knowingness.

That said, I love receiving an occasional definitive *wink* that let’s me know that Spirit is tuned in to the source of all. 😉

Crowing Crone Joss - November 12, 2011

I love that you trust your intuition and how awesome it is when we get that little ‘wink’. It encourages us to stay on the path!
keep on walking in beauty.

nrhatch - November 12, 2011

I agree. Once, when I found faith faltering, the still silent voice said simply, “Hang in there.”

Winks are acknowledgement that we aren’t walking alone. 🙂

8. Ruth - November 9, 2011

Sometimes we just know… exactly right. And he reneged, did he? 😉

nrhatch - November 9, 2011

He did.
But I knew he would.

Sometimes we just know. 😉

9. mrkoenig66 - November 9, 2011

Encore!! Encore!!! I LOVE this!!!

nrhatch - November 9, 2011

I love getting these not-so-subtle reminders that, when we are tapped into the Universal Internet, we know so much more than we could know on our own. 😀

If you’re interested, the links above are to three other times when something like this happened ~ What If is about winning the lottery when the numbers came to me in advance!

10. kateshrewsday - November 9, 2011

Gracious, Nancy! That brings a whole new meaning to being in tune with the universe….

nrhatch - November 9, 2011

It was a sublime moment, Kate . . . which kept me smiling for the remainder of the evening.

11. johnell74 - November 9, 2011

In the words of the A-Team,”isn’t it fantastic when a good plan comes together”. For BFF’s sake, I am glad he didn’t keep his promise!

John

nrhatch - November 9, 2011

It is, John. BFF has kept ALL the important promises he’s made for the past 30 years . . . I didn’t mind letting him off the hook on this one. 😉

12. Rufus' Food and Spirits Guide - November 9, 2011

One of my favorite scenes in Groundhog Day is when he knows the answer before the question is asked. What is Titicaca? (I think that’s his answer/question.) Next time make him do that in the backyard!

nrhatch - November 9, 2011

Imagine knowing all the answers BEFORE the questions are asked ~ that would make for a rather unbeatable contestant on Game Shows!

BFF can’t streak in our backyard unless he (1) walks on water or (2) goes skinny dipping with the fish.

I’m letting him off the hook . . . he won’t bet against my intuition next time. 😉

13. Bridgesburning Chris King - November 9, 2011

I would say more than pretty swift ..down right brilliant!!

nrhatch - November 9, 2011

Very exciting to have a brilliant flash of intuitive insight appear unbidden. We’re going to a lecture on Seahorses tonight . . . but tomorrow I’ll play along with the Jeopardy champions and see if I can do it again. 😀

14. Booksphotographsandartwork - November 9, 2011

I was going to say where’s the picture of him streaking? lol.

nrhatch - November 9, 2011

I dated someone in college who streaked across campus in nothing but a ski mask. His picture made the paper. He didn’t do it again. 😉

15. Piglet in Portugal - November 9, 2011

I was also going to ask if BFF kept his promise!

nrhatch - November 9, 2011

He didn’t . . . but that’s OK. He’s honored all the important promises he’s made to me for 30 years.

16. jakesprinter - November 9, 2011

Great story 🙂

nrhatch - November 9, 2011

Thanks, Jake.

17. thirdhandart - November 9, 2011

Wow! I certainly admire your intuition!
“The quieter your mind becomes . . . the more you hear.” Now, if I could just get my mind to quiet down…

nrhatch - November 9, 2011

My mind is much calmer and quieter than it used to be . . . learning to watch your thoughts through mindful meditation helps you to reclaim the remote.

At times, my thoughts are still agitated . . . but most of the monkey chatter has disappeared.

18. CMSmith - November 9, 2011

That’s pretty awesome, Nancy. Maybe we should take up a collection and get you on the show.

I hope you enjoyed your husband’s show.

nrhatch - November 9, 2011

There’s a book called Practical Intuition with exercises to strengthen the ability to access intuition when needed . . . I never thought to use it to get on Jeopardy. 😉

19. adeeyoyo - November 9, 2011

Affirmation is so magical, Nancy. When you know the link is there!

nrhatch - November 10, 2011

Yes! A wonderful wink from the Universe about the link between each of us and the source of all.

20. jannatwrites - November 9, 2011

Streaking through the living room is nothing…around the block would be a different story 🙂

That is strange that you knew the answer without hearing the question…

nrhatch - November 10, 2011

BFF is tres conservative . . . the thought of him streaking about the neighborhood is beyond my ken. 😉

Aah . . . the strange and wonderful winks of the Universe, reminding us that all the answers to all the questions lie within.

Look deep.

21. granny1947 - November 10, 2011

Reckon this talent must scare your husband????

Team Oyeniyi - November 10, 2011

😆

nrhatch - November 10, 2011

Yes. He is terrified. 😯

I’ve told him I’m omniscient . . . and see EVERYTHING. Like Santa Claus. 😆

22. Judith - November 10, 2011

I love Jeopardy but we don’t get it here. Often I know who is on the phone before I answer it and my children have always said I was a witch. So welcome to my witches coven. 🙂

nrhatch - November 10, 2011

Excellent! I’ll ride a Silver Broomstick and land outside your door. You’ll know I’m there . . . BEFORE I knock. 😀

23. souldipper - November 11, 2011

Way to go, Nancy! I love seeing people trust their intuition enough to call it!

Tell BFF we are panting for the photos! 😀

nrhatch - November 11, 2011

I love it when I know that I know something that I could not possibly know! 😀

As for BFF . . . it’s C~O~L~D here today. No streaking allowed.

24. bluebee - November 11, 2011

That’s bizarre, Nancy, and BFF is a total spoilsport!

nrhatch - November 11, 2011

Monday will be the 30th Anniversary of our first date. Maybe we’ll celebrate by both streaking around the villa! 😛

25. eof737 - November 11, 2011

Great job! Might be time to take that to Jeopardy and become the most winning-est contestant… 🙂 I’m working on catching up again after a hectic workshop week again. 🙂

nrhatch - November 11, 2011

I don’t expect that it will happen consistently enough for me to beat Ken Jennings’ record.

But it was a lovely *wink* none the less.
