The Easter Bunny ~ An Ancient Mystery April 24, 2011

Why baskets?
Why bunnies?
Why eggs?
Why jelly beans?
Why chocolate?
Except for the last, which has a rather self-evident answer, we came up as empty-handed as a slow-moving near-sighted youngster at an Easter Egg hunt populated by eagle-eyed marathon runners.
If you’re interested, Arvik has shed some light on this ancient mystery:
On the Origins of the Easter Bunny

chocolate? who needs a reason for chocolate? It’s appropriate for all seasons and holidays!! now do you bite the ears off the chocolate bunnies first or save them for last?
Exactly! The inclusion of chocolate in any celebration is a no brainer. 😀
What about the Easter Great Pumpkin and the Mayflower and the Florida Marlins ?
Are they made out of chocolate? 😉
I love your linked blogger’s suggestions. Killer Rabbits must, indeed, be behind the whole thing.
Arvik has a killer instinct when it comes to tracking down stories. 😀

You have just reminded me.
Mex gave me an Easter egg this morning.
There is still some left.
Wait…won’t go with my wine.
Later!
Enjoy!
Funny, I was just wondering about that.
For such a “universal symbol,” its odd that the Easter Bunny is so shrouded in mystery.
Some ancient Christians decided to grab a little luster from the celebration of the goddess of fertility or spring or something similar. Her special animal was the hare. Not sure where the eggs came from. It has no part in Christianity, but we still call the day we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Easter Sunday. Go figure. You know, I didn’t think to buy myself a chocolate bunny. Tsk. Blessings to you, Nancy…
Maybe you can get a chocolate bunny tomorrow . . . at half price! Hope you’re having a wonderful day, Carol Ann.
I just went and got my education! Thanks for the hot tip! 😀
Arvik has a wild imagination. I would never have pictured Easter eggs as hand grenades. 😉
killer bunny, hand grenades. nooo it’s all about excessive fertility and those ‘christmas’ babies
So, you don’t buy into the killer bunny explanation? 😉
Did someone say CHOCOLATE? Point me in the direction of that holiday. Oh, you mean there is chocolate for every holiday? Hmmmmmm….
Well, it’s a jolly holiday with chocolate
No wonder that it’s chocolate that we love!
I’ll take some of those too… I didn’t indulge this year but still love all those colorful eggs and bunnies. 🙂
Happy Easter!
Eliz
The only Easter candy we have . . . Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. It’s time to restock our chocolate stash. 😀
