Bagels On The Beach May 19, 2016

In early May, we went to Einstein Bagels, bought a big bag of bagels and had bagels on the beach at Siesta Key.
We loved the beach improvements made since our last visit ~ this walkway leads up to the second-story snack bar and concession stand with an amazing view and a diverse menu.
Siesta Key is proud of its beach . . .
For good reason.
In addition to miles of powder white sand, it’s “user friendly” . . . with rest rooms, changing rooms, and 800 FREE parking spots (which fill up quickly on sunny days).
And it boasts a fun and shady playground for tiny tots tired of too much sand, sun, and surf.
After beaching it for a couple hours, we walked around Siesta Key Village and grooved to fun live music at the SKOB ~ good tunes from the 70’s. Including Pure Prairie League!
After getting the “munchies” from the college tunes and Woodstock sounds, we chowed down on some mini donuts ~ still warm from the fryer, baby!
No. I didn’t take a photo of them. We were too busy eating.
We stopped in Southside Village at Morton’s Gourmet Market. After sampling some delicious blue cheese from Wisconsin, we bought a chunk of cheese and a bunch of bananas and headed home.
Relaxed and happy.
Aah . . . that’s better!
What’s your favorite music from the 70’s?

Music from the 70s? Was there anything that wasn’t good? I don’t think so! Bagels and donuts! Woohoo!
Kate, you are so right… so much great music!
Fantastic decade for music . . . and grooving to the tunes!
Our diet that day was NOT low carb.
You are killing me here… I want to be there. Well Venice, but I will take Siesta Key and bagels any old day! We have been talking about hopping in the car and coming on down but with all the spring storms and HAIL I don’t want either of our vehicles to get hailed on. Hail finds us no matter where we go. Pure Prairie League! Early 70’s music… college tunes for us. Hmmm… The Guess Who, Three Dog Night, Gilbert O’Sullivan’s Alone Again Naturally, Melanie’s You got a brand new pair of roller skates! I could go on, stop me!!! Roberta Flack, Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Earth Wind and Fire, SMOKEY ROBINSON! America! Okay, I am going to stop… 😀
Great tunes! Also loved Lynyrd Skynyrd and Aerosmith and YES and the Stones and . . . the beat goes on.
We’ll have to do bagels (and donuts and cupcakes) on the beach the next time you and CH come down!
Sounds like a perfect day out 🙂
Very close to perfect, Rainee.
Unless you’re talking “optimal nutrition” ~> in which case, we fell far far short of the bar. But, hey, everyone needs a day off for good behavior from time to time.
Boy that tune takes me way back, from PPL. I always find it hard to choose favorites. But I’d say one of the best bands to come out of the 70’s would be the Eagles.
With the exception of Hotel California (Too. Much. Airplay.), I love listening to the Eagles, especially on a sunny day.
I can identify “some favorites” more readily than “a favorite” . . . and that goes for food, music, movies, books, blogs, etc.
I feel the same way about Stairway to Heaven. Great song by Led Zeppelin, but I’ve heard it way too many times.
What a great day trip and the weather looked perfect. Oh the 70’s….the Eagles, the Allman Brothers, the Moody Blues…I could go on and on.
The weather ROCKED it, Jill. High 70’s to Low 80’s, low humidity, a sea breeze and sun. We probably won’t have temps that perfect until, oh, let’s say, November.
Good bands! In the 70’s, I had a job at the Garden State Arts Center ~ an outdoor concert hall. Got to see some fabulous concerts including Chicago, the Moody Blues, Stephen Stills, Dave Mason. I might enjoy working at a venue like that again.
Nice!
In her later years, my aunt lived on Siesta Key. So pretty. I can understand the appeal of bagels on the beach. Always like hearing Pure Prairie League. Your day sounds rejuvenating and fun. I could use one of those. Thanks for sharing yours.
Siesta Key is a treat. Your aunt chose well. We love the beaches that are just 5 minutes away, but it was nice to head down there for a wander. Wish you could have joined us.
We were walking through the village when we heard Aimee filtering off the deck at the Siesta Key Oyster Bar (SKOB) so we headed over straight away. When I was in law school, I got to hear PPL at an outdoor concert in S.C. Good times!
Do you know the story behind Aimee? It’s a tale told only in Cincinnati…
I don’t know the story. Care to share it?
Are you in the Keys, NH? How did I not know this? My favorite part of Florida, for sure!
Not the Keys leading to Key West. We’re about an hour south of Tampa but there are lots of Keys here to explore ~ Lido Key, Siesta Key, etc.
Florida has more than its fair share of tropical and sub-tropical Keys.
A day of beach fun always includes music and eating; sounds like a great day!
One of the best days this spring!
Any day that includes sun, surf and mini donuts sounds perfect to me. And you even offset the carbs with some healthy dairy and fruit ~ yay! When I think 70’s music, it’s gotta be Moody Blues and Eagles. Thanks for the link to “Amie,” an all-time favorite of mine!
Glad you enjoyed. I’ve loved that song since college. And my love of bagels and donuts dates back even further!
I hear you, Nancy!
What a great day out, Nancy. I love the castle slide in the first photo, it’s so colorful 😀 Bagels and mini donuts – you can’t go wrong 😉
They did a terrific job making the beach even more “user friendly” with lots of shade for the playground.
Man cannot live on bagels and donuts alone . . . but they help!
Sounds good (the music) and smells delicious (the bagels and donuts)! Maybe time to visit Siesta Key soon, it’s been a couple of years😎
That’s what we thought. We’d read about the changes and decided to head down for beach and bagels. Fun time.
We also want to get back up your way sometime soon. Last time, we ate at Frenchy’s Rockaway Grill on the beach and enjoyed it . . . almost as much as our bagel nosh.
The first time I visited Florida, a few things surprised me. I should have known it was flat and low, but somehow I was amazed by how flat it was. And after seeing many coral sand beaches, which people call white sand beaches, I was again amazed to see the pure white beaches of Florida. From your posts, it looks like there’s a lot to see in Florida. I’m still amazed by that white white sand.
Florida iz flat, for sure! For increased elevation, visitors go parasailing or climb palms. Our highest peak is a small mole hill. But we do have lots and lots and white sandy beaches.
Growing up in Jersey, the sand was gray (crushed clam shells) and H~O~T on the bottoms of feet on sweltering days. Here the sand stays cool to the touch.
I didn’t remember that about the cool white sand. That’s a real selling point.
Cool white sand is one of my favorite things about Florida beaches. That, and the fact that they are FREE.
In Jersey, you had to purchase beach badges (by the day, week, or season) in order to enjoy the sand. That is WRONG!
