What Do THEY Know? July 4, 2015

Once we see that our thoughts and opinions are not “the truth” . . . we see that the thoughts and opinions of others are also not “the truth.”
To avoid criticism, do nothing, say nothing, and be nothing. ~ Elbert Hubbard
That realization allows us to let go of the constant craving for external applause, approval, accolades, and acknowledgment.
I much prefer the sharpest criticism of a single intelligent man to the thoughtless approval of the masses. ~ Johannes Kepler
After all . . . what do THEY know?
Some people like you, some people don’t. In the end you just have to be yourself. ~ Andres Iniesta
Happy Independence Day!
Aah . . . that’s better!

I believe we need to stay independent in our thoughts yet be open minded.
Happy trails to you, Nancy. ☆☆☆
Thanks, Robin. Let Freedom Ring!
‘Truth’ and ‘Reality’ – ultimately meaningless? Best to be a Relativist methinks.
Relativist Reality <~ I like it!
(Of course, what do I know?) 😛
No one knows what consciousness is. No one knows what matter is. What are we left to be certain about?
Not much. Being is what it is.
Signed,
I am that I am.
Yes, being and nothingness.
Perfect for today! I like this post!! Like the Johannes Keplar quote.
And yes, I just have to be me… 🙂
Happy Independence to you and BFF! Have a wonderful day!
Morning Pix! Just back from a walk on the beach ~ it is getting JAMMED on the SAND. 😎
People already grilling burgers. I think I saw one with YOUR name on it. Have a Fun, Fab, and FREEDOM filled day!
Happy 4th from a rainy dreary northeasterner. Of course what do I know?
I just scanned an article about all the rain round Pittsburgh in June and how it’s making everyone crabby.
Stay out of “their” way! At least until after your coffee!
HAPPY FOURTH!
June was very rainy here outside of Philadelphia. Everyone is crabby! Sometimes it’s a 2 Starbuck day although I shouldn’t be complaining the last week or so has been very nice and not too hot. “They say” it will clear up by fireworks time. Fortunately we are invited to a picnic TOMORROW! Woo hoo!
We lived just outside of Philly (on the NJ side) for 8 years (1992 – 1999) ~> the rainy, wet, gray days were never a fave.
I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you that the skies clear in time for the fireworks display ~ watching the bombs bursting in air always reminds me of the Star Spangled Banner. Freedom!
We’re apt to have a nice day early with late afternoon and evening rain. So we’ve made 2 sets of plans ~ but I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a poolside potluck followed by fireworks on the beach.
Have a very happy Independence Day!
Thanks, BC . . . Let Freedom Ring! 😎
I love your independent thinking Nancy … Even if it not the truth 😉
If it ain’t one thing, it’s another. ~ Rosanne Rosannadanna
Happy Independence Day, NH!
Thanks, NT! Hope you’re having a COOL time in Vegas.
It’s HOT, HOT, HOT! 🙂
Here too! The poolside potluck picnic alternated between “HOT” and “BUGGY” . . . until the clouds rolled through and chased us all inside.
I especially agree with this: “Some people like you, some people don’t. In the end you just have to be yourself. ~ Andres Iniesta”
Happy Fourth of July, Nancy!
It’s impossible to please all the people all the time, even for very talented chameleons.
Hope your 4th fills your sails!
I hope you’ve had a thoughtful and liberating July 4th, Nancy.
“It’s no wonder that truth is stranger than fiction. Fiction has to make sense.”
Mark Twain 😀
We’ve had a relaxing day topped off with a poolside potluck picnic. Not sure about the fireworks . . . think nature’s going to put on its own show for us.
If life has taught me anything, it is to be myself! Hope you are enjoying the holiday in your own way.
I did. Thanks! ~> 2 mile walk on the beach in the morning, hibernating during the heat of the day (watching Aerial America shows on the original 13 colonies), poolside picnic and potluck from 6-8, fireworks on the beach at 9.
And as the fireworks were winding down, Mother Nature added to the light display with lightning and a few cracks of thunder.
*BOOM*
That sounds perfect.
They don’t! I know, but sometimes I still struggle to remember that 🙂 Hope you’re having a great weekend!
Thanks, Tiny! We had a good fourth ~ a walk on the beach Saturday morning, a poolside potluck, and cooling breezes on the beach during the fireworks display!
Love it!
Here’s to going with the flow of life . . . instead of struggling against the current.
Perfect and timely for the holiday and every day! I think I have some Elbert Hubbard on my bookshelves–once belonged to my mother-in-law. I liked his quote. I may need to dust them off. 🙂
True confession, Debra ~> I don’t always read the folks I quote on SLTW . . . I wonder if I’ve quoted any “Despicable Me” types?
Happy Independence Day Nancy! I hope it was a good one.
Very pleasant. Thanks, Timi.
l like some people and don’t like others. It shouldn’t be surprising they feel the same about me. I’m glad to hear you had a pleasant Fourth.
Some people are best enjoyed in “small doses.”
Independence day is a great time to post about being free from the restraint of “everyone”.
It’s very liberating to shed the need for external accolades, applause, approval, and acknowledgement.
Being free is a good place to be.
