The Funeral July 28, 2018

Joe passed away. His Will provided $30,000 for an elaborate funeral.

As the last guests departed the affair, his wife, Betty, turned to her oldest friend.

“Well, I’m sure Joe would be pleased,” she said.

“I’m sure you’re right,” replied Jody, who then lowered her voice and leaned in close to whisper.  “How much did this really cost?”

“All of it,” said Betty. “Thirty thousand.”

“No!” Jody exclaimed. “I mean, it was very nice, but $30,000?”

“The funeral was $6,500. I donated $500 to the church. The wake, food, and drinks were another $500. And the rest went for the memorial stone.”

Jody computed quickly.

“$22,500 for a memorial stone? My God, how big is it?!”

‘”Two and a half carats.”

Aah . . . that’s better!

Hum…I wonder if the ring was purchased before the death? Happy Saturday, Nancy!

Flowers fade . . . but diamonds are forever! 😀

I like her thinking!

nrhatch - July 28, 2018

It may not have been what Joe had in mind . . . but perhaps he wasn’t thinking far enough ahead.

Every time someone admires her rock => a memorial moment.

It pays to be explicit in your instructions! 🙂

nrhatch - July 28, 2018

Explicit or implicit, a deceased’s wishes aren’t always . . . set in stone. 😀

Why not? They say funerals are for the living.

nrhatch - July 28, 2018

And, apparently, so are diamonds! 😀

Now that woman has the right idea! She didn’t succumb to being so literal that she missed out on the perfect opportunity. May Joe RIP knowing his wife will think of him with a smile every time she sees her beautiful stone! 🙂

nrhatch - July 29, 2018

Agreed! Buy a memorial stone that you can see every day!

8. Joanne Sisco - July 30, 2018

The best kind of stone 🙂

nrhatch - July 30, 2018

My favorite stone is a turquoise set in a gold band. My grandmother gave it to my great aunt in 1918 when they emigrated to the US from Scotland.

It’s a 100 years old this year and it reminds me of both of them!

Joanne Sisco - July 30, 2018

Wow – that’s a very special one!

nrhatch - July 30, 2018

It’s a very special “memorial stone.” 😀
