Music Monday ~ Tom Petty November 14, 2011
Posted by nrhatch in Life Balance, Mindfulness, Music & Dance.trackback
Yesterday, I wrote about a favorite “local” band . . . Patchouli. Today, I want to share five favorites from Tom Petty.
No matter my mood . . . No matter what I’m feeling . . .
Whether I’m flying high . . . Or feeling low . . .
Petty’s words resonate with gentle reminders that we must be patient and allow the path to unfold before us.
When I’m exploring or experimenting with something new . . . Learning to Fly:
When I’m feeling “trapped” or “hemmed” in . . . Wildflowers:
When I’ve jumped, while waiting for “the net” to appear . . . Free Falling:
When people don’t “get me” . . . You Don’t Know How It Feels:
And when I want a boost of energy . . . You Wreck Me, Baby.
Aah . . . that’s better!

I love Free Fallin, amazing song! Great choices!
Sounds like Free Fallin’ is the hands down favorite! 😀
This post just put me on a new path! I am quite the music collector…for various reasons I have more than I can listen to in a lifetime, and for no real reason I haven’t particularly tuned into Petty, although I think I probably have most of his catalogue! “Petty’s words resonate with gentle reminders that we must be patient and allow the path to unfold before us.”–you got me! Now I’m really interested! Thank you…Debra
Some of Petty’s lyrics are less ZEN than others, but many of his songs remind me to celebrate my unique qualities without getting caught up in my reputation with others.
Be Here Now!
Thanks, Nancy, for helping me remember how much I love Tom Petty.
I could easily have included twice as many favorites from his playlist. What an amazing singer/songwriter.
I love it, skipped right to Free Fallin’!
Great song . . . “and I’m FREE . . . free fallin’ “
I too love Free Fallin – Petty just gets it right. 🙂
Here’s to following our own road . . .
How can you not love Tom Petty?!
Rock on!
🙂
Yes, indeed! 😀
Haven’t listened to him in looong time! Nice selection, my favorite one is “Learning to Fly”.
Glad you enjoyed. I also love . . . “Time to move on, time to get going, what lies ahead, I have no way of knowing, but under my feet, babe, grass is growing, time to move on, time to get going.”
We have to let go of what isn’t working . . . to make room for what is coming round the bend. 😀
Nice to have a ‘feelgood’ recommendation, Nancy 🙂 Thanks.
He’s a singer/songwriter with staying power, for sure.
Ahhhhh…wildflowers….. : ) thank you!
It’s a pretty song with a wonderful message ~ “you belong somewhere you feel free.”
Learning to Fly is my favorite 🙂 thanks for sharing…It’s been awhile since I heard it.
Learning to Fly is perfect for the Flying G’ma! 😉
Love Tom Petty ❤
He’s been a part of my music playlist for 30+ years.
I think I might be the only person who doesn’t care for Free Fallin’. Never have 🙂 BUT, I do like Wildflowers (and many of his other songs!)
My all-time favorite Tom Petty song is ‘Don’t Do Me Like That’. I never change the radio when that one plays…
Good song! I love when a song really grabs our attention and we can’t change the station (or get out of the car) until the last note is heard. 😎
Good Afternoon NR…as I can’t hear any of that at work I will have to visit you again from home tonight!
It’s a good thing that I didn’t know about blogs and blogging when I worked at the University. It would have been too tempting to tune in rather than focusing on AmeriCorps stuff. 😉
Great selection!
I had a tough time narrowing it down. Petty is definitely NOT a one-hit-wonder. 😀
Excellent! I haven’t listened too his music in ages… Lovely selections too. 🙂
Music exceeds our capacity to consume ~ so many wonderful songs to enjoy . . . so little time.
Tom Petty… Ahh! that’s definitely better 🙂 Very nice selection Nancy!
Glad you enjoyed, Martin. He’s a cool dude. 😎
Hi Nancy…just stopping by to listen to Wildflowers again…. : ) Oh, that’s a wonderful song! Wish I had been in some wildflowers today…I’ll have to find them inside I guess : )
Awesome! I used to listen to it all the time in the winter . . . while picturing fields of summer flowers. Feel free!
