Spirit Lights The Way 
I can’t remember the last time I saw a movie at the theater. Definitely slim pickins these days. 🙂
The article talked about how GREAT the movies have been this summer . . . but they don’t appeal to this buck-a-roo. I’d rather watch Netflix movies at home for a buck!
I only go to the movies for the ice cream!
I used to enjoy going to the Cinema Pubhouse ~ you could have beer, ale, wine, sangria and pub snacks delivered to your table to enjoy during the movie.

My husband and I were just talking about the solar eclipse yesterday. My cousin said how her kids were scheduled to go back to school on the 21st, but they are not starting until the 22nd now due to the solar eclipse. They live in NC.
They should give away free icecream, I agree! Movies are so overpriced and don’t even talk about the cost of popcorn!! That is why we mostly do Redbox, $1.50 and we make our own popcorn 🙂
The price of movies these days is crazy. I’d much rather watch a movie at home where I can press PAUSE if I want to run to the “snack bar” or REWIND if we want to watch a scene again. Plus we usually put on the English subtitles in case there’s so much background noise that we can’t catch all the dialogue.
Maybe free ice cream would be a way for theaters to compete with Netflix.
Yup . . . either that or free buckets of popcorn!
Take a taxi to get some ice cream? Expensive treat.
I don’t think you have to take a ride ~ just live in the right city and request ice cream with the Uber app. They’ll deliver ice cream for the app older and 4 friends.
But it’s only 10 cities in the US . . . so most of us are going to have to dish out for our own ice cream.
*floods of tears*

I saw two movies this summer. Maybe if Hollywood made better films, they wouldn’t have to miss us.
I thought of you when the article mentioned Wonder Woman.
The film studios used to be able to count on initial enthusiasm over their trailers to get people into the theaters the first weekend of a “blockbuster” release. But now social media is so FAST that movies can die on the Hollywood Vine on the first day of release.
I think I’ve aged out of theatres. Home is so….homey.
I feel the same, Kate. I also prefer eating at home to eating out ~ no crowds, no noise, no travel time, no traffic, less expense, and more control over what’s in my food.
Plus it almost always tastes better because I don’t dump an entire salt shaker into everything I cook.
I eat out with friends mostly although we do have the pizza lunches. I revel in no noise, no crowds and less expense. Just wish someone would come in once in a while and cook. However, we eat simpler these days and it’s not a big deal.
I cook extra when I cook, stashing meal-sized containers of soups and casseroles in the freezer for nights when I’m not interested in cooking. And, lucky me, BFF is great at reheating!
I still enjoy a movie now and then. A friend and I saw “The Big Sick” a week ago and I really enjoyed it. I hope to see “The Glass Castle” and “Dunkirk” before long. We have several theaters nearby that treat seniors very well…so that’s my ticket. 🙂 Thanks for the zip code eclipse model! That was informative. I don’t know what I expected, but I wasn’t thinking 10:30 in the morning. I need to adjust my plans a bit!
I’ve got The Big Sick on my Netflix queue. I’m still on the fence about The Glass Castle and Dunkirk.
My solar eclipse assumptions were way off base. I assumed that the eclipse would start in the East (you know, where the sun rises) and end on the West Coast (where the sun sets). Nope. The eclipse starts over there and ends up here . . . so you’ll have to set your alarm!
I haven’t been to the movies in years. I like how the article mentions that the movie franchises are flopping, while the unique films are doing well this summer. I can’t keep franchise movie names straight, so IF I were to go to a movie I’d go to one with a name I can remember.
Also, I’m guilty of rotten tomato-ing a movie before I watch it anywhere. With so much information at my finger tips, I have to streamline my reading somehow– and movie reviews are where I choose to do that. Seems I’m not alone.
Hollywood is unlikely to change its stance anytime soon since viewers overseas are still lining up to watch formulaic films.
Before I add movies to my Netflix queue, I swing by the “water cooler” to see the ratings. If the biggest complaint is “slow moving and cerebral” . . . it goes to the TOP of my queue. 😀
Hopefully you will have front row seats for the eclipse. Sadly, it will not be visible from the Antipodes.
Yup . . . the Earth’s girth will eclipse the Eclipse from your view. But the tides will turn. And then it will be your turn.
