About the Author: Vivian Kirkfield’s love affair with children’s picture books began over fifty years ago when she was given The Little House by Virginia Lee Burton as a present for her third birthday. Helping her mother turn the pages, a new and exciting world was revealed to her.
As a kindergarten teacher with a master’s degree in early childhood education, a daycare provider, and the mother of three (now grown with children of their own), she formulated a program that utilized children’s picture books, not only for entertainment and enjoyment, but also to help preschoolers deal with many of the challenges they encounter in their early years.
Show Me How! ~ Build Your Child’s Self Esteem Through Reading, Crafting, and Cooking is the first book in her new Positive Parental Participation series. Vivian has also written a number of picture books that help toddlers learn their colors, numbers and ABC’s.
Vivian loves reading, crafting and cooking, as well as hiking and fly-fishing in the mountains and rivers of Colorado . . . her husband of 43 years says she always catches the biggest fish.
Her most recent adventure might provide the basis for her next children’s story.
She went skydiving with one of her sons and jumped out of a perfectly good airplane.
She landed safely.

Spirit Lights The Way 
Sounds like a book full of special ideas…reading, crafting and cooking with little ones is soooo much fun…great to have a book that has suggestions for those! I love that idea of a “positive parental participation” series.
I’m going to probably want to own/work at a daycare after reading the book from cover to cover. 😀
The positive parental participation is such an important part of the program…most parents want to spend “quality” time with their young kids…but many don’t have the time to plan lots of stuff…the book makes it a snap with the quick and easy projects and simple healthful recipes. 🙂
Thank heavens…I have no need for ideas on how to entertain kids…yippee.

If I had a pre-schooler, I would definitely want this book around as a “back up” when my pool of ideas dried up due to fatigue and frazzlement. 😉

Excellent! Young children LOVE interacting with adults who take the time to read, create, cook, sing, and play with them. And the adults get a shot of YOUNG straight into their hearts! 😀
I was a preschool director and teacher for years and am fully credentialed with a ton of resources…and even I get frazzled. LOL! I will more than likely buy this book by the end of the day! It’s always wonderful to find something new to infuse my “bag of tricks.” I am really quite interested, so thank you for a great resource. Both my granddaughters are quie intrigued with the art of whistling, too…so that’s a fun connection to the overall theme! Debra
Yay! I knew that some regular visitors to SLTW would love to own Vivian’s book to add something new to their “bag of tricks.”
The art of whistling is just ONE of 100 (!) chapter ideas. Half the fun of the book is picking and choosing which theme to adopt for the day.

As I was reading the enthusiastic review for a minute I said to myself, this is a book I can gift my niece in law who is Thai and lives in Thailand but speaks perfect English. She and my nephew are going to have a baby around January of next year and I am sure both of them would appreciate a book like this as children grow fast. 🙂
It’s filled with great ideas for interacting with kids . . . both to educate and to entertain. FUN for the inner child in each of us.
