Need a great gift idea for the caregiver of small children?

Check out Vivian Kirkfield’s carefully crafted and delicious book, Show Me How! ~ Build Your Child’s Self Esteem Through Reading, Crafting, and Cooking.

Between colorful covers, Show Me How! is overflowing with 100 picture perfect picture book ideas (e.g., Whistle for Willie), 100 crafty craft ideas (e.g., making a whistling instrument), and 100 kid-pleasing recipes (e.g., “whistle while you work” tortilla pizzas).

Buying Show Me How! is like getting three books for the price of one ~ it provides parents, teachers, librarians, grandparents, and baby-sitters with hundreds of cooking, crafting, and reading ideas designed to entertain and educate tiny tots for day after day after (rainy) day.

Here’s what Norman Bridwell, author of Clifford the Big Red Dog series, had to say:  “Show Me How! is a wonderful resource for people who care for their children and hope to better their reading and learning experience.  Kirkfield is to be commended for this book!”

To read more enthusiastic reviews and buy a copy(or two!) on Amazon: Show Me How!  It’s also available on Kindle ~ Show Me How! Kindle.

About the Author:  Vivian Kirkfield’s love affair with children’s picture books began over fifty years ago when she was given The Little House by Virginia Lee Burton as a present for her third birthday. Helping her mother turn the pages, a new and exciting world was revealed to her.

As a kindergarten teacher with a master’s degree in early childhood education, a daycare provider, and the mother of three (now grown with children of their own), she formulated a program that utilized  children’s picture books, not only for entertainment and enjoyment, but also to help preschoolers deal with many of the challenges they encounter in their early years.

Show Me How! ~ Build Your Child’s Self Esteem Through Reading, Crafting, and Cooking is the first book in her new Positive Parental Participation series.  Vivian has also written a number of picture books that help toddlers learn their colors, numbers and ABC’s.

IMGP1368aVivian loves reading, crafting and cooking, as well as hiking and fly-fishing in the mountains and rivers of Colorado . . . her husband of 43 years says she always catches the biggest fish.

Her most recent adventure might provide the basis for her next children’s story.

She went skydiving with one of her sons and jumped out of a perfectly good airplane.

She landed safely.

Aah . . . that’s better!

Sounds like a book full of special ideas…reading, crafting and cooking with little ones is soooo much fun…great to have a book that has suggestions for those! I love that idea of a “positive parental participation” series.

nrhatch - May 31, 2012

I’m going to probably want to own/work at a daycare after reading the book from cover to cover. 😀

viviankirkfield - May 31, 2012

The positive parental participation is such an important part of the program…most parents want to spend “quality” time with their young kids…but many don’t have the time to plan lots of stuff…the book makes it a snap with the quick and easy projects and simple healthful recipes. 🙂

2. granny1947 - May 31, 2012

Thank heavens…I have no need for ideas on how to entertain kids…yippee.

nrhatch - May 31, 2012

Aah . . . but great-grandkids are in your future, Granny. 😀

3. kateshrewsday - May 31, 2012

Lovely idea for a book. Children are so full of creativity!

nrhatch - May 31, 2012

With no more than a hint from us and a few supplies . . . they are off and running.

4. Tori Nelson - May 31, 2012

Sounds cool. Will definitely have to check it out for the Man Child!

nrhatch - May 31, 2012

If I had a pre-schooler, I would definitely want this book around as a “back up” when my pool of ideas dried up due to fatigue and frazzlement. 😉

5. Andra Watkins - May 31, 2012

Thanks for sharing this book, Nancy. I know several children who would enjoy it.

nrhatch - May 31, 2012

Excellent! Young children LOVE interacting with adults who take the time to read, create, cook, sing, and play with them. And the adults get a shot of YOUNG straight into their hearts! 😀

6. Three Well Beings - May 31, 2012

I was a preschool director and teacher for years and am fully credentialed with a ton of resources…and even I get frazzled. LOL! I will more than likely buy this book by the end of the day! It’s always wonderful to find something new to infuse my “bag of tricks.” I am really quite interested, so thank you for a great resource. Both my granddaughters are quie intrigued with the art of whistling, too…so that’s a fun connection to the overall theme! Debra

nrhatch - May 31, 2012

Yay! I knew that some regular visitors to SLTW would love to own Vivian’s book to add something new to their “bag of tricks.”

The art of whistling is just ONE of 100 (!) chapter ideas. Half the fun of the book is picking and choosing which theme to adopt for the day.

viviankirkfield - May 31, 2012

Hi fellow former preschool director/teacher and fellow granny. 🙂 I agree, we all need new ideas sometimes…I know you will love all of the book suggestions…you will find many of the old classic picture books and great craft and cooking activities to go with them!

7. spilledinkguy - May 31, 2012

Missouri is the ‘Show Me State’ you know, Nancy…
so it sure seems like “Show Me How’ would be a hit here!
🙂

Nancy, Nancy, Nancy! What an absolutely stellar review…even I want to buy the book. 🙂 I so appreciate your unbridled enthusiasm and willingness to spread the word and let others know!

nrhatch - May 31, 2012

You’re welcome, Vivian! Reading through the activities and suggestions makes me want to “turn back the hands of time” to when my nieces and nephews still needed me to read to them.

Best of luck with the book! 😀

9. eof737 - May 31, 2012

Vivian is the best and she has lived what she offers to other moms. Kudos! 😉

nrhatch - May 31, 2012

She’s definitely learned by “doing.”

viviankirkfield - May 31, 2012

You are so kind, Eliz! I know the book will help others…so I am glad to have reviews like this one that spread the word. 🙂

Thanks, Krista.

11. sufilight - May 31, 2012

As I was reading the enthusiastic review for a minute I said to myself, this is a book I can gift my niece in law who is Thai and lives in Thailand but speaks perfect English. She and my nephew are going to have a baby around January of next year and I am sure both of them would appreciate a book like this as children grow fast. 🙂

nrhatch - May 31, 2012

It’s filled with great ideas for interacting with kids . . . both to educate and to entertain. FUN for the inner child in each of us.

viviankirkfield - May 31, 2012

So glad you were excited by Nancy’s wonderful review…the book has already traveled to Singapore, Canada, Slovakia and Spain…so why not Thailand! 🙂

sufilight - May 31, 2012

Very true, Vivian! 🙂

12. Maggie - May 31, 2012

If I ever have kids, this sounds like it would be really good.

nrhatch - May 31, 2012

I would have loved having a copy when my nieces and nephews were younger.

13. Tammy - May 31, 2012

Great tool for great parents.

nrhatch - May 31, 2012

And wonderful to use as a “springboard” when the well runs dry.

14. souldipper - June 1, 2012

I’m going to link this to a grandmother friend of mine who was an ECEducator. She is a great resource for many moms so will be interested in this!

viviankirkfield - June 1, 2012
