Goosebumps Greet The Fall October 1, 2011

Gray tabby dozing
In the last rays of the sun
Absorbing its warmth

Another month rolls
off the presses ~ time stands not
in idle repose

The sands of time through
the fragile hour-glass flow
leaving naught behind

Bare tanned arms protest
Summer’s cool uncaring end
Goosebumps greet the fall

Aah . . . that’s better!

But I like fall!! Having grown up in California, it was quite a revelation to experience actual Spring and Fall after I emigrated.

nrhatch - October 1, 2011

Today is the first “cool” day we’ve had . . . I’m loving it. 😀

2. Julie - October 1, 2011

I do not protest. Could not be happier that it’s October, and your beautiful verses are even more proof.

nrhatch - October 1, 2011

Thanks, Julie. We are having a beautiful fall day here in the Sunshine State. A lovely 71 degrees!

3. Maggie - October 1, 2011

“Another month rolls
off the presses ~ time stands not
in idle repose”

That one is my favorite!

nrhatch - October 1, 2011

Thanks, Maggie. Time keeps moving past us . . . even if we wish to “stand still.” 😀

4. theonlycin - October 1, 2011

You look happy enough 🙂

nrhatch - October 1, 2011

It’s easier to deal with cooler temps here ~ I no longer “lose my cool” when summer gives way to fall (with winter waiting in the wings). 😎

Aren’t cats wonderful?
They know how to make the most of every little thing that will bring enjoyment.

nrhatch - October 1, 2011

They’ve mastered the art of the moment:

“One of the secrets of a happy life is continuous small treats.” ~ Iris Murdoch

It’s a cool Oct day on my side of the fence as well. The photo at the end of your post made me smile… perfect ending as you both look happy on a beach that is being greeted by the fall.

nrhatch - October 1, 2011

Today’s a day to be outdoors . . . soaking up the sun. 😀

7. Patricia - October 1, 2011

First really cool Fall day here. too. And windy! Loving it after a summer of 100* days.

nrhatch - October 1, 2011

We watched the weather channel during lunch . . . snow in NC! Wow!

8. kateshrewsday - October 1, 2011

Wonderful poem and beautiful pictures. Love your cat hugely. But no goosebumps here in the UK: we were 29 degrees today. We’re all a bit confused…

nrhatch - October 1, 2011

Our hot air’s gone missing . . . blown on easterlies to England. 🙂

9. Alannah Murphy - October 1, 2011

Lovely photos. I love Autumn, my favourite season but we’re having an unseasonal heatwave, which is most annoying to us pale skinned vampiric creatures 😉

nrhatch - October 1, 2011

It sounds like you’re in the oven and North Carolina is in the freezer . . . with snow flurries littering the decks and lawns.

Not the norm for October 1st.

What great photos, love the sunflowers and the hammock.

nrhatch - October 1, 2011

The sunflowers were taken at the local organic farm ~ they ran one entire length of the field.

The hammock shot is from MD (our last house) . . . today’s weather was perfect hammock weather. Sunny and breezy.

11. Christine Grote - October 1, 2011

The hammock is too much. You are really rubbing it in.

I always wanted to visit or live on a beach during fall or winter. Something about that really appeals to me.

nrhatch - October 1, 2011

Well, if it makes you feel better, we don’t have a hammock here . . . we left it with the house in MD.

And I’m with you ~ beaches beckon year round. I swim when the temps are above 75 degrees, and walk at other times.

12. Booksphotographsandartwork - October 1, 2011

Yes I actually had to wear a jacket today and have put socks on tonight! Lovely photos Nancy.

nrhatch - October 1, 2011

We turned off the A/C and opened up the house for the first time in months. It feels great, but I did get a few goosebumps from the breeze.

13. aRVee - October 1, 2011

hi nrhatch, thanks for dropping by my site…

You have a beautiful and relaxing place (image #3), and the sunflowers are just beautiful (#2), you must have enjoyed the time with your friend at the beach (#4)

What a way to complement your poem with the photos!

Thanks for sharing…

nrhatch - October 1, 2011

Thanks, aRVee! I enjoy pairing poems with photos (or artwork from favorite artists) ~ without graphics, my poems look naked. 😀

aRVee - October 2, 2011

you’re welcome and I agree 🙂

14. Ruth - October 1, 2011

Nice! I’ve gotten a few goosebumps here lately…

nrhatch - October 2, 2011

Thanks, Ruth. Goosebumps intrigue me ~ not the ones from the cold, the other kind. They hint, perhaps, that we’ve had a glimpse beyond the veil.

15. sonsothunder - October 2, 2011

Wonderful goose bumps!!! I hope you are felling better
paul

nrhatch - October 2, 2011

Thanks, Paul. I feel a bit “under the weather” (but not because of the weather) ~ just a bug. 😉

16. LittleMissVix - October 2, 2011

Great post! We’re having a heat wave over here, it’s very weird as I had my boots all ready to go 🙂

nrhatch - October 2, 2011

Thanks, Vix. Keep them handy . . . I’m sure the weather will shift again soon.

17. flyinggma - October 2, 2011

Love the sunflowers. I went searching for some around here to photograph but found them too late with their heads hanging.

nrhatch - October 2, 2011

They may be drooping around here too . . . I pulled that photo from my “archives.” 😀

We are having a chilly morning again. Quite unusual for early October. Fall is announcing her arrival.

18. ElizOF - October 2, 2011

I love fall too… Who is the lovely lady in the picture with you? Happy fall days to you… 🙂

nrhatch - October 2, 2011

That’s Nicki! We’ve known each other since college. We’ve lived in close proximity (in both NJ and NC). At the moment, we’re on opposite coasts.

19. Debra - October 2, 2011

lovely and yes brrrr….I am so glad you are enjoying the weather and the company! Namaste 🙂

nrhatch - October 2, 2011

The weather is a lovely change of pace ~ it’s been months since we had the A/C off and the windows open.

Aah . . . that’s better!

20. jannatwrites - October 3, 2011

I can’t wait for the goosebumps (we’re still around 96 degrees). Soon we will have cooler almost-need-a-sweater mornings 🙂

P.S. I love that kitty picture.

nrhatch - October 4, 2011

We’ve had cooler weather for a couple of days, but it’s starting to warm up again ~ to the mid 80’s.

Tigger is our laid back kitty . . . he spends lots of time engaged in prime time R&R! 😀
