Dunedin’s Snug Pub October 3, 2011

On Mondays, Dunedin is quiet.
As we wandered Main Street, poking our noses into quaint shops boasting tartans, we had little competition from other pedestrians or cars.
After exploring Main Street and the adjacent marina, we headed up Douglas Street to Dunedin Brewery and Snug Pub, a micro-brewery which had been on my radar since before we relocated to the Gulf Coast.
As it is wont to do, Murphy’s Law accompanied us.
We arrived at the Brewery’s darkened doors to discover that Monday is the Snug Pub’s only day of rest.
No wonder the town whispers on Mondays.
We peered past the CLOSED sign to admire the authentic pub interior. As our eyes raked over gleaming vats of fermented ales, we saw the owner standing behind the massive bar.
Better still . . . he saw us.
And invited us in.
And offered us samples.
On the house.
Huzzah.
Take that Murphy!
While chatting with the owner about the brewery and its brews, we quaffed refreshing Razzberry Wheat Ale and aromatic Apricot Peach Ale ~ award winners available only at the brewery.
We also sampled Pipers Pale Ale and Redhead Red.
Aah . . . that’s better!
Fun Fact #1: Since our visit, the Brewery created an Auld Alliance with Cigar City Brewing. To read more: Auld Alliance ~ Collaboration and Agreement.
Fun Fact #2: The name Dunedin comes from Dùn Èideann, the Scottish Gaelic name for Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland.

Kate’s dad, Johnell74, wrote a poem this week for Sidey’s challenge called Footprints.
John’s words (about not seeing our own footsteps as we walk through life) prompted a song clip to start playing in my head:
They say that the trick is
To walk in backwards
Like you’re walking out
I guess the lord’s wearing glasses now
Here’s Keep Me Turning from Rough Mix by Pete Townshend and Ronnie Lane:
Two other keepers from the album ~ Street in the City and A Heart to Hang Onto.
Bonus Poem: To read a THWACKING good poem . . . POETRY by Adeeyoyo! It’s perfect for a Music Monday post since “it sings!” (per PTC).
