Hi Nancy!

This is a thank you, certainly not a suggestion. Your comment on Don Erlich’s post landed in my email inbox. So I wanted to say hello!

I LOVE your blog! So much information. I can only hope to catch up! Looking forward to reading your posts in my email. : )

Take care,
Gretchen

nrhatch - June 13, 2010

Thanks, Gretchen.

I enjoyed bumping into your post on Carolyn’s blog. The new WP re-post feature is apt to raise our awareness of many of the intriguing blogs circulating in the blogosphere.

We are all going to wish we had just a few more hours a day to peruse and wonder and wander.

Gretchen Saathoff - June 13, 2010

Let’s all work together & see if we can arrange for those hours!

Yes, the “repost” feature is great. Saves copying quotes and adding attributions and links.

2. Mstrongair - June 14, 2010

Nancy,
I love your blog too.
Is there a special reason why your posts on the home tag don’t have the reply option?
Thanks for everything you do and please, keep writing and inspiring us.
With love,
M

nrhatch - June 14, 2010

That’s the way this WP theme works.

To read or leave comments, just click on the title of the piece and the comments box opens.

Thanks for dropping by.

3. Mstrongair - June 14, 2010

Thanks Nancy,
I figured it out later. =)

nrhatch - June 14, 2010

Someone else had a similar problem maneuvering around the site initially.

All blogs seem to be just a bit different depending upon which “widgets” are installed and what the original template looked like.

Generally, this theme seems to be pretty easy to get around.

4. Shannon Sullivan - June 30, 2010

Hi Nancy,

I have a question … not related to your blog specifically … but blogging in general. I am fairly new to it and am doing okay but how does one “add” a “Blogroll” onto his/her page and then how do you “add” the blogs onto the list once the category is created? I couldn’t figure it out … I have a wordpress.com sponsored blog as well. Thanks for the help.

nrhatch - June 30, 2010

Shannon ~

The way I added my blog roll was:

*My Dashboard
*Appearance
*Widgets
*Scroll down to Link
*Click Add

At that point, you should have a blog roll on your post

To add WP blogs is easy ~ while visiting the blog, click the “Blog Info” button at the top of the page

Then click, add to blog roll

For other blogs:

*My dashboard
*Links
*Add new
*Type in the name
*Copy and past the Url

Hope that helps.

5. Shannon Sullivan - June 30, 2010

Success! Blogroll added šŸ˜‰ Yay! Thanks for the help. I appreciate it.

You’re very welcome. Glad I could be of assistance. : )

6. theshaumbragame - August 22, 2010

Nancy,
So glad to find your blog, it’s full of Light. You’re a wonderful writer. I admire the ease with which you seem to express yourself. It’s still like carving in granite to me. Hopefully I’ll manage the occasional tiny masterpiece, which to me will be anything that prompts a new brighter perspective.

nrhatch - August 22, 2010

Wow! What a lovely thing to say.

Every once in a while, writing a piece is like walking through sticky toffee . . . but mostly my words flow quite easily.

I will say that practice, practice, practice is key. Like learning to play a musical instrument or speak a 2nd language, the more we apply ourselves, the faster we improve.

And it’s important not to worry about making mistakes or playing a few wrong notes. A toddler stands up, walks, falls, walks, falls, walks, falls, before becoming sure footed.

We must do the same whenever we want to expand beyond our current boundaries.

Thanks for your lovely comment!

7. Shannon Sullivan - October 26, 2010

Nancy,

Hi there .. I have another question to ask you šŸ˜‰ … how do you add the “share the word” buttons onto the blog with the facebook button. I tried to figure it out but no luck.

Thank you for the help! I appreciate it.

8. nrhatch - October 26, 2010

Dashboard -> Settings -> Sharing

Then move the icons from “available” to “enable” or “hidden” by dragging them with your mouse.

Then decide “Icon only” or “Text only” or Both
Add the label (I use “spread the word”)

And decide which pages to display the sharing buttons on.

Last . . . SAVE CHANGES.

9. faeriemagic - December 20, 2010

(Hey there Nancy just a note – I think Winter Solstice is actually the shortest “day” and the longest “night” of the year because it is the day the sun sets the soonest and rises the latest making it a “longer” night and then the next day is bringing back the Sun because then we start to gain more sunlight back towards Summer … in your recent post you say its the “shortest” night .. not trying to edit you just wanted to point that out … just what I noticed while reading it .. Thank you for the great info!

nrhatch - December 20, 2010

Oops! You’re right. I’ll fix it pronto.

Thanks so much.

10. postadaychallenge2011 - February 5, 2011

Could you add me as your buddy? Long story short but my first wordpress was eternityisforever1
yes with wordpress, then my email and that account got hijacked. I started all over with the link above. I love the challenge to blog a day. I admire you as I am a new paralegal in Chicago IL who cannot find work. I am a Barber and Security Officer. I love law. If lawyers would hire based on PASSION I would “take the cake.” My name is jackie and I want blogging buddies, are you in? That is my suggestion from Chicago to FL

nrhatch - February 5, 2011

Welcome to the blogosphere! As I said in response to your last comment:

From your comment, I canā€™t tell anything about the theme for your blog, so no promises.

If you want more readers, write posts on your theme. Then, read and post thought-provoking comments on blogs that interest you and tie in with your blogā€™s theme.

For example, if you post current event pieces using the ā€œnewsā€ tag, or humor pieces using the ā€œhumorā€ tag, click on those tags to find other bloggers blogging in your area. Visit them and share your thoughts.

Chances are that many will swing by your blog to see what youā€™ve been up to.

Enjoy the journey as the path unfolds before you.

11. Shannon Sullivan - March 22, 2011

Hi Nancy,

I was wondering if it was possible for me to email you directly about a question I have that is not related to blogs or writing but more in concern with Spirit … I want to dialogue with you briefly about a personal concern of mine … if its not okay, I totally understand šŸ˜‰

nrhatch - March 22, 2011

nrhatch - July 13, 2011

Happy to help if I can . . . but I’m not super tech-savvy. I just know what I know. šŸ˜€

Nancy,
Just wanted to personally thank you. I’ve had a few readers tell me you recommended 52 Brand New to them. I really appreciate it! Took a look around your blog and think it’s great! I’ll be back šŸ™‚
Danielle

nrhatch - December 29, 2012

My pleasure, Danielle. I knew several readers with young kids would love your blog . . . especially the recent Ivory Soap experiment.

17. Lynda - January 1, 2013

You are truly a wellspring of blogging information, and inspiration! I am so glad that Nancy (Dogear6) mentioned you!

nrhatch - January 1, 2013

Thanks, Lynda. Glad you found your way here. If you use the category “blogs and blogging” you should find most of the posts on blogging tips and techniques. Have fun looking around.

18. Booksphotographsandartwork - May 10, 2013

Nancy do you know what might have happened to Miss Whiplash?! I was thinking that I haven’t heard anything from her in a long time so I went to check out her site and it’s gone!!! I really, really liked her. Some of my automatic emails are gone from my list now. Yours and hers so I couldn’t contact her that way. I am sure I have seen comment on your blog before. She is the lady who lived in Bulgaria. Patrecia.

nrhatch - May 11, 2013

She’s still around ~ she’s the first comment on this post from yesterday:

Good luck with your new blog, Emma.

thank you so much!

20. Marlane Wurzbach - October 30, 2013

I appreciate your using photos of my paintings in your blog AND crediting me as the artist. However, I am no longer associated with Island Gallery West and would be grateful if you would amend your captions to reflect that my work is now available through http://www.marlanewurzbach.com. Thank you very much.

nrhatch - October 30, 2013

Absolutely, Marlane. And thank you! I’ll make those changes right now, using the link to your website.

nrhatch - October 30, 2013

Your new website looks great ~ I love your art work!

21. Eamon Walford - March 22, 2014

Hello Nancy! Thanks for liking my recent comment regarding the new WordPress smilies. It’s good to know that I’m not the only one who thinks they’re too cutesy.

nrhatch - March 22, 2014

Thanks, Eamon. I don’t use the new ones much ~ they don’t suit me. I loved some of the old ones ~ the eye roll was perfect, so was the oops, and mrgreen was a class act.

Eamon Walford - March 22, 2014

I did too. I remember when WordPress made a similar change a few years ago, and the backlash was so huge that it was reversed within a few days. This time around, though, the reaction has been quite the opposite, so I’ve bookmarked a couple of other sites for smilies.

nrhatch - March 23, 2014

I’ve bumped into a few vocal opponents ~ Pix at Under The Oaks is NOT a fan of the new emoticons ~ but it does seem that the unveiling has resulted in more cheers than jeers.

22. renicarego - January 19, 2015

Hi! I just read my annual report sent by wordpress.com. You are among the top 5 most active commentators on my blog. Thank you very much for your support. Really appreciate it. Wish you a wonderful year ahead. Cheers!

23. Kate Crimmins - August 5, 2015

Nancy, I’ve always been impressed with your zest for lessening the stuff in your life. The Chicken Soup “group” is looking for stories (of which you have tons). link http://www.chickensoup.com/story-submissions/possible-book-topics
Maybe you are interested? or not? or already know….

nrhatch - August 5, 2015

Thanks for the link, Kate. I’ll give it a think.

24. James Riddett - May 23, 2018

Hi Nancy, just discovered you! “Happiness is the goal behind all goals. We are here to be happy.” Couldn’t agree more! šŸ™‚ We have a book called Happy Guide and just wondering if you’d be interested in doing a book giveaway to your readers. Of course I can send you a copy to check out first šŸ™‚

nrhatch - May 23, 2018

Thanks for the offer, but I’m going to pass ~ I’m not interested in hosting a book giveaway right now.

Stay happy!

James Riddett - May 24, 2018

No worries Nancy, you too! šŸ™‚

nrhatch - May 24, 2018

I will roll your offer around a bit more in the coming days and let you know if the idea of a book giveaway “speaks to me.”

Cheers!

James Riddett - May 24, 2018

No worries at all Nancy. It sounds like you operate in a very similar way to us. It really comes down to a feeling doesn’t it? Whether or not something “speaks to you” as you say.
