Signs of Fall September 2, 2022

trackback

We have a white board outside the clubhouse for announcements of interest (or words of encouragement) to the human residents of PBC.

If the birds, the coyotes, the otters, the occasional gator, the raccoons, and the squirrels ever stop to admire Frank’s handiwork, their admiration has taken place without notice by me.

Of course, that’s understandable since there is much I miss these days.

Anyway, getting back to the Signs of Fall . . .

On August 31st, we went for our evening bike ride immediately after answering ALL of the questions on Jeopardy.  (And we even got a few answers correct!)

When we reached the clubhouse, the board was blank.  WHAT?  OMG!

We were astonished because the board is never blank.  It may be out-dated, stale, redundant, repetitive, or irrelevant, but it is NEVER blank.

Hmmm . . .

This is one for the record books . . . Frank must have drawn a Blank!

Perhaps he fell down on the job . . .

And came up with nothing!

Perhaps he has a bad case of the grumps . . .

Or he’s lost in a perpetual swirling fog . . .

Or worse.

What if he’s got a bad case of dreaded writer’s block!

Relax.  Breathe.  Free Write.  Repeat.

The next morning, which happened to be September 1st, I biked up to the clubhouse for water aerobics.

As I swung into the parking lot, I saw that the board had been dressed at some point during the last twelve hours.

I breathed a sign of relief.

No longer naked, the board intoned:

MAKE IT A SEPTEMBER TO REMEMBER

How’s that for a Sign of Fall?

How will YOU make it a September to remember?

Do tell . . . I want to steal some of your ideas!

In the meantime . . .

Aah . . . that’s better!

Hmmm…a September to remember…how about a pleasant one without anything weird happening? I’d be happy with that!

nrhatch - September 2, 2022

Same here, Kate.

We don’t have any big plans for the month . . . other than staring at the calendar and wondering how it got to September so fast!

If time flies when you’re having fun . . . we must be having a BLAST!

Kate Crimmins - September 2, 2022

I’m reflecting on that. Last week I had the lens in. Longest week ever! This week it’s already Friday. I think I missed a few days.

nrhatch - September 2, 2022

Every time I blink, another day/week/month/year flies by.

Hope you start to notice some improvement with your eyes. Let us know.

Yay on the white board not being blank anymore! 🙂 Funny, how we get used to things like that. Love that he does it, you know how I love quotes.
If I make it to the beach this month it will definitely be a September to remember! 🙂
Happy Fall! I did enjoy cooler temps this morning.

nrhatch - September 2, 2022

I’ll keep my fingers crossed that the beach appears on your horizon this month . . . and that no hurricanes appear here!

Thanks for always being a positive force in the blogosphere, Carolyn.

joyroses13 - September 2, 2022

Thanks Nancy for the good wishes. 🤞🙂

Awww! You are so welcome and thanks for the smile your words gave me. ❤ Glad I can be a positive force! Its my pleasure!

nrhatch - September 2, 2022

Now, stop selling those Voodoo Dolls to raise money for your beach trip! 😀

Nancy, enjoyed this post a lot. You captured the spirit of each moment perfectly, especially when “wondering” about Frank – lol. Time for some football and…once it gets a lot cooler…some pumpkin spice anything. Enjoy!

nrhatch - September 2, 2022

Hope the football season gives you a chance to enjoy some tailgating. Indoors or out.

I remember a time in September . . . when we cheered on the Green & Gold @ W&M after/while toasting them with kegs of beer and copious amounts of edibles (and smokeables).

Food makes everything more memorable. Go Pumpkin Spice!

nrhatch - September 2, 2022

You’re in luck! I just checked our Publix circular. Here’s a hint of the pumpkin themed offerings:

👍 (sending this thumbs-up emoji since the eyes emoji I sent initially was ironically not able to be seen properly…)

nrhatch - September 2, 2022

That is ironic . . . or, maybe, eye-ronic? 😯

4. Val Boyko - September 2, 2022

Thanks for the smile Nancy 💐🙏🏼💕 Glad Frank is back into his stride. Well – we are heading back to Tuscany on the 14th for two weeks. Doesn’t get much better than that 😎

nrhatch - September 2, 2022

Yes . . . Tuscany in the fall should be a great place to make memories to SAVOR! Enjoy the trip, Val.

And thanks for reminding us to relax, breathe, and find our middle ground.

5. Savoring Sixty and Beyond - September 2, 2022

Hopefully my little part of the world will start to enjoy some cooler temperatures, a little less rainfall, a good start to college football (Go Dawgs!), and pumpkin spice flavored goodies! Going to Sea Pines in Hilton Head towards the middle of this month should make this a nice September for us to remember!

nrhatch - September 2, 2022

Nice! We were just talking about Hilton Head the other day. When we lived in NC, we visited a time or two and always enjoyed the sights, sounds, and Sea Pines! Have a wonderful time. Go Dawgs!

nrhatch - September 2, 2022

BTW: I am unable to post on your site. When I click on “wordpress” to log in, the blocks which would allow me to identify myself appear and disappear at lightning speed.

Here’s what I would have said on your Book Club post:

I just read The Authenticity Project, and Iona Iverson’s Rules for Commuting. Both seem to be saying, “it’s not over until it’s over” . . . even if the smoke detector is screaming at you to check the pinwheels!

Glad you saved the food. That’s my kind of book clubs. Good eats!

nrhatch - September 2, 2022

I also enjoyed your hands post ~ our hands come in quite handy!

6. Debra - September 2, 2022

Of all you shared I think I was most captivated by the bike rides. A good bike ride sounds just wonderful. A September to remember? I am looking forward to another trip to Oakland to play with my grandson and enjoy his 5th birthday. That makes the month stand out for me. 🙂

nrhatch - September 2, 2022

We love our bike rides, Debra ~ the breeze on our face keeps the summer heat at a manageable level.

And, yay, for your planned trip to Oakland! It’s so much fun to share birthdays with youngsters who still measure their age in 1/4 of a year increments!

7. Behind the Story - September 2, 2022

“A September to remember.” I’m all for that. I was just thinking today that I should plan some fun things. I haven’t done that yet, but I will. I was looking through the pictures on my phone while waiting at the doctor’s office and thinking that the past 3 years were such eventful and fun years, although a little slow during COVID. Time to plan for new fun.

nrhatch - September 2, 2022

Planning fun activities is a fun activity. It gives us a chance to imagine “good times” and then head in that direction! OPA!

Behind the Story - September 2, 2022

So true!

nrhatch - September 3, 2022

I try to fit some fun in every day ~ getting outdoors to greet the sky, biking around the hood, bouncing around in the pool, dancing to favorite tunes, laughing, playing Jeopardy, etc.

I find if I stay present to what I’m doing than even chores can be fun . . . just as promised by Mary Poppins!

8. Ally Bean - September 3, 2022

I’d be worried too if I saw that board blank. Some things are wrong in the most visceral way. Am glad the board is back to normal, will commit to having a September to remember as it suggests.

nrhatch - September 3, 2022

The actual explanation for the blank board, which I discerned during water aerobics later that morning, was somewhat pedestrian:

Frank took the board apart to clean it. Once cleaned, he attempted to return the board to its preferred configuration, but there was a glitch. A space between the board and the “shelves” which keep the letters in place had appeared. As a result, the letters escaped to the ground below rather than staying put.

A solution appeared in due course. 😀

Ally Bean - September 3, 2022

Ha! Love it
