There Is No Planet B June 11, 2021

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is asking for public comments by June 14 to help draft rules requiring consistent climate disclosures by all publicly traded companies.
This rule is crucial to ensuring that all investors, communities, and consumers have the information they need to determine if these companies are reporting out accurately on their climate impacts, risks, and steps for addressing their impacts.

Enough consumers are now voting with their wallets that manufacturers are starting to make “green” claims for their products, networks are airing “green” shows, and movie producers are bragging when they make a film with a zero carbon footprint.
It’s a start.
Perhaps people will finally find it chic to “go green.”

After all, “What good is a house, if you haven’t got a decent planet to put it on?” ~ Henry David Thoreau

Yes, there is only one Earth! Thoreau’s quote is great!
I’m wondering what happens when people click on the “Tell the SEC” link ~ when I click it, I see my info & e-mail in the petition box.
It looks like it enables you to sign the petition but it also subscribes you to newsletters, etc. I would rather just sign the petition.
Thanks for checking, JR.
Always interesting to see what the SEC is up to. I love the idea of the whole world going green, but it’ll take time. And more than the SEC to make it so.
I am, at best, cautiously optimistic . . . given that we are now 50+ years post the 1st Earth Day and people still tend toward GREED over GREEN.
The G7 summit is happening around the corner from us. We find it somewhat ironic that seven leaders, their entourage and the press have flown to Cornwall from around the world and one of the debates is to be the climate emergency.
There is no planet B……..
Exactly! Haven’t they ever heard of ZOOM? 😆
We just hope that it will be worth it all. 🙂
Same here, Sally, Fingers crossed that the other world leaders find Biden more reasoned than our last president. 😛
There’s a good interview in Grist with former UN Secretary General Ba Ki-Moon talking about the diplomacy that led up to the Paris Agreement. He has been patiently working for saving the planet for a long, long time. He never loses hope and celebrates the small victories. My grandchildren give me hope. They’re very serious about our climate and our planet. (The author of the interview is my granddaughter’s friend and roommate.)

Thanks, Nicki. I’ll check it out.
Thank you for this!
Here’s hoping that we turn the page and start caring for this precious planet before we pass the point of “no return.”
I hadn’t heard anything about the SEC petition, but it sounds like a very important step. I am grateful to every person who prioritizes a green lifestyle, even in small steps. No one can ever help me understand how it is possible to not take climate change and all related issues seriously!
I feel exactly the same, Debra.
In fact, one of the reasons that I decided to be a vegetarian is that I’m convinced it’s “better for the planet” (as well as for me and the animals I would otherwise be consuming).
You make a good point, Nancy, how it’s a start. You remind me of ‘light olive oil’ – it can be interpreted in many ways – Colour? Calories? Always great how you pay attention and how you highlight the issues, Nancy. Everyone can make a difference.
Thanks, Erica. The more people committed to conservation and living sustainably . . . the better!
Living in Henry David Thoreau’s world, I’ve seen this quote often and I love it every time. SO true. And I also think the sign “There is no Planet B” is perfect. May we all act together in loving respect and responsibility to our planet Earth. xo
That’s right! You live near Walden Pond. Let’s hope its waters stay pristine while we clean up the rest of the mess.
People in this area are big environmentalists. Thank goodness!
Mother Nature needs all the help she can get!
