We don’t do much outdoor decorating but I love to ride around and look at what other’s have done. It’s part of the traditions of Christmas and brings great peace. It’s not about the presents (at least when you are an adult!)

nrhatch - December 13, 2020

We may do that tonight, Kate. The island businesses have kicked it up a notch this year to counter-balance the events cancelled due to covid. And, as always, there are light shows and light displays at the mall, at the botanical gardens, etc.

Great quotes! I like the “opening our hearts..” one the best. So true!

nrhatch - December 13, 2020

That one suits you, JR.

joyroses13 - December 13, 2020

Awh! Thanks!

3. Val Boyko - December 13, 2020

Lovely shares. Thank you Nancy for reminding us of the spirit of Christmas 💛🙏💛

nrhatch - December 13, 2020

The Spirit of Christmas is like magic fairy dust. It sparkles and twinkles and dances with life. 😀

4. Behind the Story - December 13, 2020

I like the palm tree picture and verse.

The Bob Hope quote reminds me of “Little House on the Prairie” and how much a simple gift was appreciated.

nrhatch - December 13, 2020

And folks around here LOVE to decorate the palm trees.

I like that quote too. As a kid, I often enjoyed the stocking stuffers as much as the bigger more impressive gifts ~ a paperback, a small game, some stationary (for writing Thank You notes), etc.

5. anotherday2paradise - December 14, 2020

Really wonderful Christmas quotes, Nancy. I love the way the palm trees are dressed up here in Florida.

nrhatch - December 14, 2020

Me too! We may not have snow . . . but we have fun & festive palms!

6. L. Marie - December 14, 2020

Love The Polar Express!!! I enjoyed the movie, but especially love the book. I have a signed copy by Chris Van Allsburg. 😃

nrhatch - December 14, 2020

Nice! The book’s illustrations are wonderful and the movie is a bit of movie magic.

7. Debra - December 14, 2020

These are lovely quotes every year, but particularly meaningful THIS year, when all the trappings of years’ past are not as available to us. I’m actually quite happy with a very “pared down” Christmas season.

nrhatch - December 14, 2020

Me too! But it will see odd not to get together with my sister’s family to open gifts on Christmas Day.

8. roughwighting - December 15, 2020

All of these quotes remind us of how much we’ve lost with the commercialization of this holiday. I think it would be great if more people found this year that it’s all about the giving to others and kindness and love. ❤️

nrhatch - December 15, 2020

Back in the day, I tried to give from the heart to co-workers by making something ~ one year I decorated more than a dozen 15″ high trees for the firm’s attorneys, secretaries, paralegals, receptionists, mail carriers, etc. I kept one and still have it.

Another year, I bought plain bisque Santas and painted them to give as gifts ~ I kept the blue one with the wreath for BFF.

Another year, I used embroidery hoops and other frames to create embroidered trees with button ornaments.

Here’s to gifts from the heart!

roughwighting - December 16, 2020

First, i wish I had worked in your office. 🙂 Second, YES, these are the gifts that “keep on giving.” I’d have saved these handmade gifts from a co-worker for the rest of my life. ❤

nrhatch - December 16, 2020

I have kept all the handmade gifts from my nieces and nephews to put on display at Christmas. They just warm my heart!

Erica/Erika - December 19, 2020

Well said. ❤️

9. Erica/Erika - December 19, 2020

An interesting post, Nancy. For me, it is the nostalgia of the people who are doing the quoting. Some no longer with us. I am catching up reading my favourite blogs after a challenging month. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones.❤️

nrhatch - December 20, 2020

Glad you’re taking a few minutes to relax and breathe after a challenging month . . . tacked on to the end of a very challenging year. Here’s to 2021. May it exceed our expectations in all the right ways!
