National Pumpkin Day falls on October 26th . . . which seems about a month early to me.

Why not have it coincide with Thanksgiving?

Gobble.  Gobble.

I mean what other day of the year involves the consumption of a gazillion slices of Pumpkin Pie?

And that’s AFTER people push away from the groaning board feeling as rotund as pumpkins.

Well, as has happened before, no one consulted me . . . so it is what it is.

TODAY is National Pumpkin Day.

Ours is not to reason why, ours is but to . . .

Oh, wait!

I know what happened . . .

Linus with all his talk about The Great Pumpkin got the holiday booted from November to October to coincide with All Hallows Eve.

We can live with that, right?

Right?

Aah . . . that’s better!

Despite the pandemic, the election, and the looming dangers of climate change, I feel calm, cool, collected, and at peace.

Others (particularly the less charitable) might view my current demeanor as “extreme apathy” rather than as “zen enlightenment and acceptance.”

So be it. 😛

Relax.  Everything is cool.

Think about what could go RIGHT.

Go Magawa! October 4, 2020

I loved this story from the New York Times:

An African giant pouched rat named Magawa has received an award for bravery for his work detecting land mines in Cambodia.

Magawa has been trained to sniff out TNT and can search an area the size of a tennis court in 30 minutes. By comparison, it would take a person with a metal detector about four days to search an area of that size.

Over the past four years, Magawa has discovered 39 land mines and 28 pieces of unexploded ordnance, and helped clear more than 1.5 million square feet of land.

He is the first rat to receive the award — a gold medal bestowed by the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals, a British charity.

For a longer look addressing the problem of land-mines in Cambodia:

Aah . . . I smell a rat, an heroic bomb-sniffing rat!
