Don’t Go Commando! July 18, 2020

Posted by nrhatch in Home & Garden, Humor, Joke.

Hope you all had a week overflowing with laughter, good food, and amusing pastimes.

I spent the week dealing with ID Theft issues (still in progress) and a Fridge on the Fritz (now FIXED ~ yay BFF!).

AND I celebrated my birthday COVID style . . . by staying home and maintaining social distance from everyone but BFF (to be known henceforth as “the Maytag/Whirlpool Repairman”).

Despite the ID Theft issues (which caused me to be “on hold” at CHASE bank for, no joke, more than 4 hours), I found lots to laugh about this week . . . including the fact that I am NOT (normally) a CHASE customer.

In case you need to up your smile quotient for the week . . .

Aah . . . that’s better!

1. Prior... - July 18, 2020

Sorry about the issues of theft and it is nice to have a BFF that can also do repairs

And happy bday!!

nrhatch - July 18, 2020

Thanks! Not the most exciting birthday ever, but the week was punctuated by lots of laughs.

BFF is a terrific handyman.

2. Kate Crimmins - July 18, 2020

Happy birthday! Sorry it was an odd week but we are in odd times! Love the picture. Reminds me of the old guys who are forever adjusting their junk (on the outside — no hand inside at least in public).

nrhatch - July 18, 2020

Speaking of junk . . . I saw a guy on the beach today wearing a Speedo that was smaller than his mask! 😀

Kate Crimmins - July 18, 2020

OMG! In general I hate speedos on guys. Almost all of them do not look good in them.

nrhatch - July 18, 2020

I’m with you on that, Kate.

Although, truth be told, this guy did the Speedo proud ~ he looked like an Olympic swimmer . . . with no excess fat hanging over the edge of the suit.

3. Jill Weatherholt - July 18, 2020

Happy birthday, Nancy! I’ve got one coming up next week. Sorry about the refrigerator. We’re waiting now for the air conditioning technician to work on our upstairs unit. It’s frozen off and it’s 95°. Have a great day!

nrhatch - July 18, 2020

Fingers crossed for you, Jill. If he doesn’t arrive, you might be sleeping downstairs in the living room tonight, eh?

Happy (early) Birthday! Here’s to a year full of laughter!

Jill Weatherholt - July 18, 2020

Thank you, Nancy. Fifty-five…I remember when I thought that was old. LOL! 🙂 We are up and running! Thankfully, we have a wonderful A/C guy!

nrhatch - July 18, 2020

That is great news! A/C is a valuable adjunct in the summer.

We had a relatively cool day today ~ 74 in the morning and low 80’s throughout the day due to lots of clouds and rain. A nice change of pace.

BTW: I’m a few years older than you (lucky 7)!

4. granny1947 - July 18, 2020

Happy birthday. Glad it was good. My bff is lousy at fixing stuff but is great at housework. I will keep him.

nrhatch - July 18, 2020

Glad that Mex earns his weekly allowance! I had to raise BFF’s allowance this week since he saved us a repair bill!

5. dorannrule - July 18, 2020

What a way to celebrate a birthday! Here are belated wishes that your year will be joyful. And for the record, I admire your patience and resilience.

nrhatch - July 18, 2020

Allstate assigned a Remediation Specialist to help me tie up the loose ends. An excerpt from my conversation with Veronica:

V: Can I have your date of birth please?
Me: Today

V: That’s one for the record books!
Me: Yup. Happy Birthday to me! 😯

6. Rivergirl - July 18, 2020

Ha! I am so stealing that mask sign…
Sorry about the ID theft, happened to me once but thankfully my bank caught it before the thieves could charge much. It makes you feel positively violated.

nrhatch - July 18, 2020

I’ve had it happen a few times with credit cards . . . but this time someone OPENED a CHASE checking account in my name without my knowledge. Very disconcerting.

BTW: Better to steal that sign than someone’s identity! 😀

Rivergirl - July 19, 2020

Oh, that is disturbing.

nrhatch - July 19, 2020

CHASE wanted more personal info from me (SSN, DOB, DOD, etc.) in order to prepare an in-house Identity Theft Report. When I declined to share more ID info with the rep, she said, “it’s just so you won’t be liable for any overdraft on the account.”

I launched into full lawyer mode: “I am already NOT liable for the account. I didn’t open it. I didn’t ask CHASE to open it. I didn’t give permission for CHASE to open it. CHASE messed up. Not me. CHASE is responsible for any overdraft on the account.”

Her: “So you don’t want to complete an ID Theft Report?”

Me: “This phone call is being taped, right?”

Her: “That’s right.”

Me: “OK, then. This phone call is me filing my ID Theft Report with CHASE.”

I might have shared a few other choice words with her during the exchange . . . the tape will tell.

7. joyroses13 - July 18, 2020

Happy Birthday Nancy! Ugh on the identity theft! Sure hope you get everything straightened out! Great on all the laughter that came your way! Now thats the way to celebrate a bday week!

nrhatch - July 18, 2020

Thanks, JR! It was a good week overall ~> someone stole my identity . . . but I didn’t let them steal my peace of mind too.

joyroses13 - July 18, 2020

Thats the attitude!! 🙂 Good for you!

nrhatch - July 18, 2020

Thanks, JR. I kept returning to my “calm center” ~> Aah . . . That’s Better!

8. Behind the Story - July 19, 2020

Happy birthday, Nancy. I’m glad you had a few good laughs this week. ID theft would definitely try my patience.

There’s lots of good advice on that chalk board–a little humor too.

nrhatch - July 19, 2020

A local restaurant (the Anna Maria Oyster Bar) shared a photo of that sign in its newsletter this week. I believe it’s from a gift store on the island.

My mantra this week: Keep Calm and Carry On. I just do one thing at a time to “restore my good name.” In between, I take lots of breaks to amuse myself. (But, between you, me, and the signpost . . . it’s still a royal pain in the &#%$!)

9. L. Marie - July 19, 2020

Happy belated birthday, Nancy. 🎂 So sorry about the ID theft. 😩 Glad your fridge is fixed!

nrhatch - July 19, 2020

How’s the move going? Hope it’s not been too aggravating for you and your neighbors.

10. Rainee - July 19, 2020

Hope you had a happy birthday Nancy and that next week will be a better one than last week for you! 🙂

nrhatch - July 19, 2020

Thanks, Rainee! I’ll stick with it . . . until it’s resolved. Stay well.

11. mybeautfulthings - July 19, 2020

I I hope your birthday was fun despite the new style of celebrating. I’m sorry about the id theft, that’s rubbish and so time consuming to deal with. Love that poster and have lifted it tpost on my blog later, hope that’s okay. All the best , stay safe. 🙂

nrhatch - July 19, 2020

Thanks, Sally. You got that right ~> it is time-consuming rubbish.

It’s fine by me if you share the poster, but I “borrowed” it (without express permission) from a local restaurant’s newsletter. There is a remote chance a copyright infringement claim could be made IF our use is not viewed as “fair use” . . . but I expect that everyone concerned is happy to have it shared.

mybeautfulthings - August 2, 2020

You may have realised that I haven’t used the poster, was unsure and prefer to have permission. I expect it has been shared quite a lot anyway. I hope you have sorted your I.T. problem by now. 🙂

nrhatch - August 2, 2020

Thanks, Sally. The IT issue seems “quiet” at the moment, but the “bad guys” could strike again . . . so I remain “vigilant.”

I get you on the permission front since we live in such a litigious world.

12. Val Boyko - July 19, 2020

Happy Birthday week Nancy! Be careful of your underwear and masks 😎

nrhatch - July 19, 2020

Thanks, Val! Here’s to a perfect fit for both!

Val Boyko - July 19, 2020

Now ain’t that the truth 😆

13. anotherday2paradise - July 19, 2020

Sorry about the unpleasant stuff but glad you got your fridge fixed. A belated happy birthday to you. Mine is coming up and not sure how we’re going to celebrate it. Friends want to go to a restaurant and sit outside. I’m okay with that if the weather plays ball. Let’s see what happens.

nrhatch - July 19, 2020

Hope the weather cooperates for your birthday celebration, Sylvia. We were able to have coffee and pastries on the deck yesterday morning at 11 am ~ unheard of in July!

It was 74 when we got up. After a walk on the beach and a dip in the pool, it was still cool (due to cloud cover), so we got to sit outside and enjoy BFF’s deck for the first time since he rebuilt it in March. Woo Hoo!

anotherday2paradise - July 19, 2020

That sounds wonderful. 👏🏻

14. Joanne Sisco - July 20, 2020

Belated Happy Birthday, Nancy.

Having to deal with ID theft on top of everything else going on right now just sucks. I loved your response to the bank when you went into “full lawyer mode”! That’s what I hate about doing anything on the phone … I just don’t think fast enough to have great comebacks like you just did.

Hope everything is otherwise well with you 😀

nrhatch - July 20, 2020

Thanks, Joanne! Hope that you are managing to fill your days with pleasant pursuits. We start the day with a walk and a swim, exercise helps us keep an “even keel.”

Dealing with ID Theft issues is a pain, but it’s not disrupting our lives much since we’ve got nowhere to go and no big events planned for the foreseeable future. Being stuck on the phone for days at a time isn’t as horrible as it would be under normal conditions. That said, I’d rather be reading, watching a movie, doing a crossword, talking to friends, etc.

Stay well!

15. Ally Bean - July 20, 2020

Cute sign. I like people who can find a way to tell you the rules while making you smile. Happy Belated Birthday! 🎉

nrhatch - July 20, 2020

Thanks, Ally! Let the celebration continue!

16. Erica/Erika - July 23, 2020

Darn, on the ID theft issue and your fridge, Nancy. I had a lesser case of ID theft, yet a hassle. I love this underwear/mask analogy. Perfect! I hope all is on the upswing with the ID issue. And, belated Happy Birthday. 🙂

nrhatch - July 24, 2020

The ID issue still has some lose ends (like WHO, WHY, HOW, and will they do it again???), but I’ve zipped things up pretty well & hope the damage will be minimal once the dust settles.

At the end of Day #1, I realized I couldn’t stop the ID Theft but I did NOT have to lose my peace of mind too. So I’ve followed the mantra, “Keep calm and carry on.”

And a perennial favorite: “This too shall pass.”

I’m still enjoying my birth month! Let the celebration continue!

Erica/Erika - July 24, 2020

This is my birth month, too, Nancy, so I am with you! 💕

nrhatch - July 24, 2020

Happy Birthday, week, and month! Enjoy.
