O Little Town of Bethlehem December 9, 2019

We joined a Bethlehem Walk last night at a local church.
The re-creation was authentic down to the last detail (except for the Christmas lights decorating the “inns,” the microphones, the loudspeakers, and the asphalt upon which Mary & Joseph trudged while looking for shelter).
The event, oddly reminiscent of Noah’s Ark, included 2 spitting llamas, 2 Aflac-ing ducks, 2 bleating goats and a miniature horse who remained silent for the duration (no doubt annoyed that his mate had stood him up).
We sang carols (off key of course) while diners seated on the outside patio at The Waterfront restaurant looked on in awe.
After Mary & Joseph got settled into “the stable,” they invited us in to meet the star of the show ~> Baby Jesus!
Following a brief introduction to the bonny boy, the people who peopled the procession stayed to enjoy cookies, sandwiches and chips (a menu served at all the finest establishments in Bethlehem back in the day).
I doubt it will become an annual tradition for us, but it was an eclectic ecclesiastic event.
Aah . . . that’s better!

We did a Bethlehem walk years ago – great but super cold – and your note about the food was fun…
The weather last night was PERFECT ~ 70 degrees under starry skies. We enjoyed the walk, and watching the kids meeting and greeting the barnyard denizens.
Oh that is super sweet!
Sounds nice, especially due to the fact that it was warm! Wouldn’t want to do one here right now. Its more mild today but its raining.
No complaints about the weather, but the serene nature of the event seemed to elude most of the participants, especially the goats! They acted as if they were on a field trip from school!
Well shame on the goats! ๐
The goats required 1-on-1 chaperones!
Sounds very authentic. Did they stop at a Starbucks for some coffee too?
Nope. Hot Cocoa with peppermint sticks. ๐
That works.
Sounds like a good time, Nancy. I’m laughing about the goat comment to Joy. ๐
The goats were great ~ butting heads, kicking up their heels, and bleating to beat the band.
Yep…sounds like goats! ๐
A Jeopardy contestant last week chatted with Alex about the 2 goats she owns . . . in lieu of a lawn mower!
Goats come in handy since they are always hungry.
Sounds like you really got into the spirit of the season. I’ll even bet there were palm trees in the vicinity.
Yes! Palm trees aplenty. Very apropos.
๐ ๐ Despite the cacophony, it sounds like a good time was had by all!
True . . . no kidding!
A batty Bethlehem tour. I like your take on it. Not quite authentic but (shrug) who cares? The sing-along was probably the best. xo
Singing outside in the moonlight = delightful!
It’s fun to take part in some “pageantry” during the holidays. I enjoy an opportunity to sing Christmas carols. It sounds to me like a wonderful opportunity to enjoy some community, Nancy. Always nice, but especially this time of year. ๐
Agreed. And speaking of community, the assistant pastor’s daughter (5th grade) sat with us and chatted about this, that, and any other thing she could think of ~ she was a treat!
This sounds fantastic. Great fun and reminders for all who participate and/or watch. Your specific details put us right there with you. I think herding ducks would be a hoot!!
Quack Quack Quack
Waddle Waddle Waddle
Ducks are a hoot!
