Don’t Be Jerky! June 27, 2019

Posted by nrhatch in Food & Drink, Travel & Leisure, Vegetarian Recipes.
trackback

We spent very little time in the town of Helen, other than quaffing beers to quench our thirst at creekside taverns while tubers floated past.

We did check out this unique storage facility with tubes stacked floor to ceiling beside life jackets and leashes.

Back on the Main Street, we saw some Jerky signs.

Imagine having to choose between Deer, Elk, Buffalo, and Boar.  Hmmm . . .

Or Goat, Gator, Python, and Alpaca.

Decisions.  Decisions.

I know!  ~> Make mine pretzels & beer!

Aah . . . that’s better!

I’m with you, pretzels and beer with a side of mustard.

nrhatch - June 27, 2019

I love Philly Pretzels . . . especially with mustard!

Kate Crimmins - June 27, 2019

Me too. I like most pretzels unless they are supposed to be soft and are hard as a rock!

nrhatch - June 27, 2019

Philly Pretzels are like a good chewy bagel. The Troll Tavern’s pretzel didn’t rise to that level. 😀

2. Tippy Gnu - June 27, 2019

I’m surprised they didn’t have long pig in there. I’d go with pretzels and tapwater. Unless they had Cheezits.

nrhatch - June 27, 2019

I was surprised to see that Bear didn’t make either list. The absence of skunk, opossum, and squirrel seemed less surprising.

We usually stick with water . . . but Helen screamed “BEER!”

3. Jill Weatherholt - June 27, 2019

Oh man…where’s the cheese dip? I love soft pretzels!

nrhatch - June 27, 2019

This pretzel (at The Troll Tavern) came with beer-cheese soup for dipping ~ see lower right corner. At Cafe International, the pretzel came with yummy beer cheese dip. 😀

4. L. Marie - June 27, 2019

Those pretzels looked soooooo delicious! My mouth is watering.

Did you go tubing?

nrhatch - June 27, 2019

Nope. No tubing . . . the water was a bit too cold for Floridated folk.

The cost is $11 for one or two hours. You hop on the bus (with Gus) and get dropped off one or two hours out. Then you float back to town. Relaxing, except when trying to extricate yourself from betwixt two river rocks.

L. Marie - June 28, 2019

With Gus. 😄 Make a new plan, Stan! No need to be coy, Roy.

nrhatch - June 28, 2019

Just set yourself FREE!

5. David Davis - June 27, 2019

I would choose pretzels too. I’m just not curious about exotic meats.

nrhatch - June 27, 2019

No meat for me ~> I’ve been vegetarian for (almost) a quarter century. We didn’t see any beetroot, bean, or broccoli-cauliflower jerky being offered. 😛

David Davis - June 27, 2019

Vegetable jerky–it might be the next big thing.

nrhatch - June 27, 2019

I know! We can call it “Beyond Jerky” . . . like Beyond Burgers, only jerkier! 😛

6. Rivergirl - June 27, 2019

Python jerky?
Alpaca jerky?
I guess if it moves… they can jerk it!

nrhatch - June 27, 2019

Yup. 🙄

But there’s not much of a market for Skunk, Possum, Raccoon, and Squirrel. And they’ve got Duck; Duck . . . but not Goose.

7. joyroses13 - June 28, 2019

I say pretzels sound best too! Going tubing sounds relaxing!

nrhatch - June 28, 2019

A great way to spend a H~O~T day, but we had mountains to climb and waterfalls waiting.

Hope your trip has been a relaxing exhale for you.

8. Joanne Sisco - June 28, 2019

I agree with the pretzels and beer. Hold the jerky.

nrhatch - June 28, 2019

Jerky is a great idea if you live in the backwoods and plan to spend the winter in a cabin with no access to real food. 😛

Joanne Sisco - June 28, 2019

hahahaha! Like that’s going to happen any time soon 😉

nrhatch - June 28, 2019

You came close last winter when you spent a few nights in that cabin . . . with no plumbing!

BTW: You are one of the most adventurous bloggers I know. You definitely know how to live life using “the whole box of crayons.”

9. Behind the Story - June 28, 2019

Alpaca? Really? Imported kangaroo? I do like jerky for certain occasions, but only if it’s not too hard to chew. Red wine is nice. Sangria on a hot day. Somehow I never learned to like beer.

nrhatch - June 28, 2019

I’m an equal opportunity drinker ~> beer, wine, cocktails . . . OK!

10. Behind the Story - June 28, 2019

I love the photo of the tubers. Looks like fun.

nrhatch - June 28, 2019

It does . . .

Row, row, row your tube
Gently down the stream
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily
Life is but a dream
