That’s Crazy! April 29, 2019

BFF dreamt that I was driving an RV . . .

out of a campground . . .

at full speed . . .

down a hill . . .

without stopping . . .

to unplug it first!

As a result of our hasty departure, the RV was dragging a 100-foot-long extension cord behind it as we careened down the hill.

Guess BFF doesn’t think much of my driving!   Flushed

Have you been watching James Holzhauer as he wows audiences on Jeopardy?

He’s got a photographic memory AND he’s a professional sports gambler who quick with the clicker ~> a lethal combination, especially when combined with his killer smile!

And he’s fearless!

When he lands on a Double Jeopardy, he calmly pushes it “All In” . . . doubling his score.

After 17 appearances, James has won $1,275,587 and he’s still going strong.

To put his performance in context, Ken Jennings won $2.5 million in regular games back in 2004 ~ but it took him 75 games to get there.

Before James, the single highest one day win totaled $77,000.

James has surpassed that record . . . 8 times!

His highest one day total to date ~ $131,127.

Aah . . . that’s amazing!

Stop Slouching! April 25, 2019

Your mother had the right idea when she encouraged good posture by insisting that you (and your siblings) “Stand up straight!”

Good posture improves our health and well-being, facilitates our breathing and respiratory function, and even gives our mood and energy levels a quick boost:

It’s true: Peper has conducted a series of studies on posture and how it can influence a person’s mood, energy levels and cognitive performance. Some of his research has found that slouching promotes low mood and decreased energy levels. One of his forthcoming studies shows that slouching can even impair student performance on a math test.

Do You Need A Digital Will? April 23, 2019

With so much of our lives stored on-line, what would happen if you were out of the picture?

Would someone else be able to access your on-line accounts to pay bills, move money, cancel subscriptions, read e-mails, retrieve photos, handle other transactions, etc.?

If the thought is making you ponder (or panic), read this:

Six Little Stories April 21, 2019

Goofy-Under-An-Umbrella{1} Once all villagers decided to pray for rain.

On the day of prayer all the people gathered, but only one boy came with an umbrella.

That’s FAITH

{2} When you throw a baby in the air, she laughs because she knows you will catch her.

That’s TRUST

Goofy-Riding-A-Bike{3} Every night we go to bed, without any assurance of being alive the next morning but still we set the alarms to wake up.

That’s HOPE

(4) We plan big things for tomorrow in spite of zero knowledge of the future.

(5) We see the world suffering, but still we get married and have children.

That’s LOVE

The Middle Path April 19, 2019

IMGP2584bA husband asked a Zen master to intercede on his behalf with his wife as she had a very uncharitable nature.

The Zen master agreed to speak with her.  He put his clenched fist under her nose and asked, “If your hand was always like this what would you call it?”

He then held his hand wide open and asked, “If your hand was always like this what would you call it?”

The Zen master nodded.

“A naturally functioning hand opens and closes. It remains flexible, neither locked into one extreme nor the other.  Just as a hand at rest is neither clenched nor wide-spread so too is our natural state.  We are not one thing or another.”

With that, he walked away.

A Satisfying Sound April 11, 2019

I finished up our taxes this week.

Yay!  It’s always a good feeling to be done with them.

Better still . . . I spent a few minutes culling unnecessary documentation (old medical bills, outdated credit card slips and statements, insurance claims, charitable receipts, etc.) from our financial files.

Once culled, that weighty stack of paper disappeared into the jaws of our shredder.

A sound most “satisfying.”

Why NOT To Be Gluten Free April 8, 2019

Posted by nrhatch in Food & Drink, Health & Wellness, Humor.

Being a vegetarian = easy peasy.
Being gluten free = a constant challenge and a sometimes sacrifice.

I am re-thinking my options.

Instead of “slim and trim,” maybe I should aim for “fat and sassy”? 😛

Travel April 6, 2019

Travel gets us outside our comfort zones and gives us an opportunity to interact with strangers.

There’s a certain freedom and anonymity to interactions with people we will (likely) never see again.

They don’t know us.

We don’t know them.

We are not limited by pre-conceived notions of how we should act, what we should eat, how we should dress, etc.

We are free to just be.

And, still, there’s no place like home!
