Good Vibrations January 23, 2019

Tiggers-R-UsWhen we observe the world around us, we see that happiness is contagious, and travels at the speed of light (or sound).  We can elevate our moods merely by elevating the corners of our mouths . . . SMILE.

Laughing and smiling improves our moods, decreases our stress levels, and encourages others to follow our lead.

When we laugh and smile, we transmit positive energy to others, with no thought required on anyone’s part.  As easily as flicking a switch to illuminate a room, we can fill the world around us with good vibrations.

Cool, huh?

Oh, you’re not convinced yet?

True Story:  Guy in a prison.  No one looks at anyone.  No one smiles at anyone.  It is a dark and unfriendly place.

At the urging of Rick Fields, author of Chop Wood, Carry Water, the inmate experiments with good vibrations. He silently sends positive thoughts to the guards and other inmates.

Without saying a word, he sends thoughts of kindness, hope, compassion, love and gratitude to others.

Nothing happens.  The End.

Just kidding.  {{SMILE}}

Wikipedia ~ American Humor (in Public Domain)

Here’s the real ending to this story:

* As soon as this inmate started sending out positive thoughts,  he instantly noticed a transformation.

* Inmates (who had never looked up before) started to make eye contact with him.

* Guards (not known for pleasant personalities) smiled at him as they passed through the corridors.

He transformed the world around him into a friendlier, less hostile place merely by changing his thoughts.

And . . . not a single word was exchanged.

Aah . . . that’s better!

Quote:  Be the change you wish to see in the world. ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Love it! Smiles and laughter are the best, especially the kind of laughter that makes tears come to your eyes! 🙂 Have a day filled with laughter Nancy!

Thanks, JR13! Here’s to happy days, loaded with laughter!

joyroses13 - January 23, 2019

Yay! And I always laugh at JR13. Makes me think of a secret agent , LOL! 🙂

nrhatch - January 23, 2019

Secret Agent JR13 has a great ring to it!

joyroses13 - January 23, 2019

It does, doesn’t it, thanks to you! 🙂

Beautiful story, Nancy. I’m smiling right now. 😃

nrhatch - January 23, 2019

Smiles are contagious . . . even in cyber space! 😀

3. Jill Weatherholt - January 23, 2019

Loved this, Nancy!

nrhatch - January 23, 2019

It’s a great experiment with a win-win result! Sending positive vibes your way!

Laughter really does cure everything. But finding things to laugh about during tough times? That’s the real gift…

nrhatch - January 23, 2019

Turning our attention from the “tough stuff” long enough to find something to smile about pays dividends in a BIG way! That subtle shift in perspective gives us an energy boost, recharges our batteries and our enthusiasm, and lightens our load.

Love the happy!

nrhatch - January 23, 2019

Here’s some good vibrations for ya!

Kate Crimmins - January 23, 2019

The link did not work for me.

nrhatch - January 23, 2019

It’s a youtube video of Happy by Pharrell Williams . . . featuring several smile-inducing MINIONS!

I’m not sure about magic, but I do believe that the thoughts and attitudes we harbor have a way of silently betraying themselves in our demeanor. People pick up subtle little clues from us, often without even realizing it, and respond accordingly.

nrhatch - January 23, 2019

Yup! Subtle clues abound. I can spot a “Debbie Downer” or a “Negative Ned” from a long ways away. And if I see them before they see me, I do my best to steer clear. 😀

Even in this experiment, I doubt that the inmate could have sent positive thoughts out from the inside if he was frowning on the outside. Moral: Keep smiling!

I TOTALLY believe in sending good vibrations (and I believe that bad vibrations are bad for your spirit/relationship/life). I make sure to smile at everyone I meet at the PO and the grocery store and the drug store etc. At first they look at me suspiciously (you know New Englanders…) but then they actually – are you ready for this? – smile back!

nrhatch - January 25, 2019

Haha! I smile and chat with people at the grocery store too ~ and usually get smiles in return.

I love this story and I am such a believer! On much simpler terms I’ve experienced strong shifts in positive energy when I’ve concentrated on being pleasant in unpleasant situations, but you’ve reminded me of the importance. This is very exciting stuff, and the timing—boy, do we need to put as much positive energy into the world as possible. 🙂 Thank you, Nancy!

nrhatch - January 25, 2019

Agreed! Here’s to spreading seeds of positivity far and wide!

9. L. Marie - January 24, 2019

Wonderful story! We can have a positive effect in the world!

nrhatch - January 25, 2019

Exactly! Here’s to sending out good vibrations!

10. Ally Bean - January 24, 2019

Great story. I’ve been told that if you smile people will wonder what you’re up to, so they’ll pay attention to you. Case in point?

nrhatch - January 25, 2019

Maybe it depends on the type of smile?

A Mona Lisa smile makes me wonder what about the back story. Other smiles seem warm and genuine ~> “connectors” designed to bridge the gap between people.

11. Mabel Kwong - January 26, 2019

Lovely story of the inmate you shared there. Sometimes you don’t need words to spread good vibes all round – it’s all in the actions. Being happy can be contagious, especially when it’s sincere. Personally I am not much of a smiler and it takes a lot for me to smile lol 🙂

nrhatch - January 27, 2019

If you don’t smile . . . how do you show “happy”? 😀

Mabel Kwong - January 28, 2019

Such a good question. I guess…don’t smile but don’t appear sad or angry 😀

nrhatch - January 28, 2019

I like the smile in your gravitar ~ it makes you seem friendly and approachable.

A smile is often a bridge between two people. 😀

So this is where I have to admit that at least once a day I wish truly terrible things to happen to your President. I’m not proud that I’m that kind of person, but … DAMN! HE’S STILL ALIVE!!!

Maybe I’m not doing it right …

nrhatch - January 27, 2019

Please . . . try harder! 😀

Joanne Sisco - January 28, 2019

I have to admit that after I hit the ‘send’ button, I wondered if it had been unwise to put that in writing. I’m not paranoid …. much.

nrhatch - January 28, 2019

You may be right to wonder. Free Speech is not as “free” as it once was ~ and that’s even setting aside the issue of self-censorship.
