A Christmas Parade December 25, 2018

Posted by nrhatch in Humor, Music & Dance, Travel & Leisure.

We finally got to see the Macy’s Christmas Parade . . . in Florida!

On a cool, clear night, we lined up along the parade route and enjoyed a ring-side seat.

The floats trended away from simple and elegant.

And focused more on whimsical creations of our Fairy Tale heroes . . . like Shrek and Fiona!

We also saw giant wooden nutcrackers . . . as well as the helium-filled variety.

Our friends from the New York Zoo visited via Madagascar.  We saw Alex the lion, Melman, the hypochondriac giraffe who is afraid of germs, and Gloria, a strong, confident, but sweet hippopotamus. …

And the penguins of Madagascar . . . after a crash landing.

King Julien XIII, a ring-tailed lemur and the king of the lemurs, stopped “moving it” long enough for me to grab a quick shot.

And, of course, Marty attended.

As you know, zebras are a favorite of mine.

So I snapped Marty from every angle.

Sure that one would be crackalackin!

And then the big guy himself arrived in a tiny sleigh drawn by eight tiny reindeer . . . which, to be truthful, weren’t terribly tiny.

There he is . . . on top of the world!

Wishing you all a Crackalackin Christmas!

Aah . . . that’s better!

Looks amazing! Happy Christmas Nancy 🙂

it exceeded our expectations AND it was MUCH warmer than the NYC Parade. 😀

Kudos for braving the crowds. The floats look very colorful.

Unlike the folks in NYC who stand out in the COLD for hours waiting for the parade . . . we walked backwards on the parade route until we met up with the parade.

Then we grabbed a perfect viewing spot ~ front row!

Tippy Gnu - December 25, 2018

Sounds like an Old West strategy: Head that parade off at the pass.

nrhatch - December 26, 2018

Yes! And no stagecoach robbery or gunfight at noon required!

Probably less people than NYC but maybe not. Looks pretty cool though. The weather was good, not always the case in NYC.

I think the parade in NYC has over 1 million spectators. This parade probably had 10 thousand or so along a smaller parade footprint. So it was well attended but NOT intimidating.

The parade lasted 20-30 minutes. Perfect!

I like that simple giant blue snowflake!

Me too! Some of the floats were simple and elegant while others were whimsical and nostalgic. A good mix.

And alcohol is available up and down the parade route to add to the viewing pleasure!

Merry Christmas Nancy!

Thanks, William. Hope you had a warm and wonderful day. All the best in 2019!

6. Jill Weatherholt - December 25, 2018

I’d rather be there than in NYC! Thanks for sharing your great photos, Nancy. Merry Christmas!

nrhatch - December 25, 2018

That’s what we said!

We had a GREAT time today. It was almost the PERFECT Christmas. Hope you all had a warm and wonderful time.

What a treat! Hope you have had a wonderful Christmas Nancy 💕🎄💕

nrhatch - December 25, 2018

Thank you, Val. Hope yours was grand and glorious.

One of my nieces gave me a book of Antique Scottish Ballads ~ it’ll give me a chance to perfect my Scottish Brogue . . . or at least give it a wee nudge!

8. Debra - December 30, 2018

Delightful! Even though it’s a week since Christmas (almost) I still carry the glow of all the fun! I know yours was delightful, as you make the most of all you do. 🙂 Hugs, Nancy.

Our Christmas was “perfect” ~ one of the most enjoyable in years and a pleasant surprise in every which way.

Hang onto that glow!
