Magic & Muggles! December 19, 2018

Posted by nrhatch in Magick & Mystery, Travel & Leisure.

In Universal Studios Florida (USF), we explored Diagon Alley.

The attention to detail (and oversight provided by Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes) is nothing short of amazing

Even the tarnish on this giant’s coat of armor seemed real (and in need of a bit of spit and polish).

The Hopping Pot features “vintage” charm and plentiful drafts (both kinds).

Neath decorated eaves and roof peaks, our tarnished giant’s “better half” peers out from its perch behind a pane-less second-story window.

After seeing our fill (followed by a harrowing Escape from Gringott’s), we hopped aboard the Hogwart’s Express, dodging dementors.

In Hogsmeade (Islands of Adventure), we attended our first Quidditch match, watched “volunteers” shopping for wands at Ollivanders, and took in the Christmas decor.

And the snow-capped rooftops.

The Frog Chorus serenaded us from the stage with carols galore.

And ribbon dancers vied for first prize in the Tri-Wizard tournament.

Following a Forbidden Journey with Potter & pals, we hopped aboard the train to return to King’s Cross Station in London.

After taking a quick peek at the ambiance and dungeon-like decor in the Leaky Cauldron, we headed to New York for the Macy’s Parade.

Aah . . . that’s better!

Oh, I love those snow-capped rooftops, Nancy. What a cool place! Thanks for sharing!

nrhatch - December 19, 2018

That might be the only snow in Florida right now. 😀

2. Tippy Gnu - December 19, 2018

Did you learn any magic tricks while you were there?

nrhatch - December 19, 2018

Yes! A disappearing money trick & a melting into the crowds trick. Both very hand at theme parks. 😀

3. L. Marie - December 19, 2018

I soooooo want to go there!!!

nrhatch - December 19, 2018

We’d love to wander around with you ~> first stop, Miss Kitty!

4. Kate Crimmins - December 19, 2018

More great pictures but no food this time!

nrhatch - December 19, 2018

I’ll try to get some food shots next time, Kate. 😀

Kate Crimmins - December 19, 2018

Good girl!

nrhatch - December 20, 2018

Maybe I’ll try to snag a shot of someone gnawing on a turkey leg . . . but it won’t be me! 😛

5. Behind the Story - December 20, 2018

I’d love to visit USF. It sounds like lots of fun.

nrhatch - December 20, 2018

We enjoyed our first two visits from arrival to departure. We went for a 3rd time this week and it was a bit too crowded for us. We like it best when we have the park to ourselves.

But we did get to see a few of the Christmas shows ~> like the Blues Brothers singing “I’m a Snow Man!” 😀

6. Debra - December 21, 2018

Such fun! I would love to be transported to another land! Great for nurturing the imagination. 🙂

nrhatch - December 21, 2018

The park does a great job of shielding the “muggle world” from view when touring around Hogswarts and Hogsmeade. Same in Diagon Alley ~ London is a world away.

7. roughwighting - December 21, 2018

How much fun is this? I hope to see it in person sometime. In the meantime, thanks for sharing with us! Now, I’m off to find my broom. (Wrong holiday, but as a HP fan, I can have my broom all year long…).

nrhatch - December 21, 2018

I hope you’ll be able to experience the wizarding world in person too . . . with a stop at Ollivander’s to get a wand to go with your broom!

I’d love to visit around Christmas-time – it looks even more magical!
