We carry around so many memories, intentions, and concepts in the pockets of the mind.  Keep emptying your pockets.  ~ Mooji, Writing on Water

When we put peace of mind ahead of all else, we discover the power that lies within. ~ Joseph V. Bailey

I believe that peace of mind means different things to different people.

If you believe that it simply means the feeling that you have when you did the best you could under the circumstances (without playing the blame game), then yes, peace of mind is within our power.

nrhatch - December 5, 2018

For me, peace of mind is a “calm pond” with no turbulent waves or stormy seas marring the surface . . . just the occasional gentle ripple before the still, silent surface returns.

Joanne Sisco - December 5, 2018

I’m pretty sure that even when I’m sleeping, my mind is not a calm pond 😉

Staying present to the present of the present is hard work. Quieting the chatter of our monkey minds is a challenge.

But it gets easier with practice. And the rewards are great. 😀

Great quotes to start my day with. 🙂

nrhatch - December 5, 2018

And YOU inspired the post with that first image. In fact, I meant to do a link back to your post and forgot. I’ll add a link.

3. Ally Bean - December 5, 2018

Your quotes remind of The Little Book of Letting Go by Hugh Prather. I read it years ago and its message has stayed with me to this day. Thanks for reinforcing the idea of spirit first, ego second with these quotes.

nrhatch - December 5, 2018

I read a book by Hugh Prather too! Back in college, my best friend gave me a copy of Notes to Myself ~> lots of fodder for thought and reflection.

nrhatch - December 5, 2018

I am checking out one of his books on line and found this gem:

“There is a calmness at the center of us, a very deep well of happiness that cannot be exhausted, but it will never be experienced while our perceptions are twisted by fear and doubt.”

~ How To Live In The World And Still Be Happy

Ally Bean - December 5, 2018

Oh, that’s perfect! I believe that to be true and do try to keep myself centered in calm. Some days better than others.

nrhatch - December 5, 2018

When I am “preoccupied” with fear and doubt, I don’t sense that inner stillness, peace, and calm . . .

As soon as I return my attention to “the present moment” (and my breath) that ever-present calm center resurfaces.

Aah . . . that’s better!

4. Val Boyko - December 5, 2018

Thank you Nancy. May we keep coming back to our center and finding the source of peace within. I’m off to empty my pockets today 😍

nrhatch - December 5, 2018

We travel best when we travel light! 😀

5. Jill Weatherholt - December 5, 2018

I’ve always loved that quote by Tracy.

nrhatch - December 5, 2018

Agreed! When we have peace of mind, all else flows with ease.

6. philosophermouseofthehedge - December 5, 2018

Thanks for the reminders – needed so much in this era and season.

nrhatch - December 5, 2018

Inner peace is a well that’s always present . . . if we are.

7. Kate Crimmins - December 5, 2018

Good reminder. How I wish I could buy it on Amazon!

nrhatch - December 5, 2018

Some days (especially after a good night’s sleep), I am filled with peace, calm, OK-ness, acceptance, and all good things.

Other days, I am agitated, annoyed, upset, and cranky.

Clearly, there’s a learning curve involved. 😆

8. Piglet in Portugal - December 5, 2018

the older we get the more pockets we have 🙂

nrhatch - December 5, 2018

Yup . . . and sometimes we lose the key to get into them!

9. Tippy Gnu - December 5, 2018

I say, the more peace you’ve found, the less you care if everything falls apart.

nrhatch - December 5, 2018

Yes!!! Peace + Unicorns = Happy Days!

10. William D'Andrea - December 6, 2018

You’re writing about Peace at the beginning of the Christmas Season: The Celebration of the Birth of the Prince of Peace.

Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me
Let there be peace on earth
The peace that was meant to be

With God as our father
Brothers all are we
Let me walk with my brother
In perfect harmony

Let peace begin with me
Let this be the moment now
With every step I take
Let this be my solemn vow

To take each moment
And live each moment
In peace eternally
Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin
With me

And Happy Hannukah! 😀

11. L. Marie - December 6, 2018

Very true, Nancy. Peace can be found even in the midst of turmoil.

nrhatch - December 6, 2018

A moment of mindfulness is all it takes to whisk us from chaos and confusion to calm and peace.

Aah . . . that’s better!

12. Debra - December 11, 2018

Yes! 🙂

nrhatch - December 11, 2018

To peace of mind!
