I’m Not Kidding Around August 4, 2018

A Boise Idaho neighborhood woke up to an unusual sight this week ~> a herd of 100+ goats providing “free lawn service” (while eating everything in sight).

The herd owned by “We Rent Goats” escaped from their nearby grazing station and decided to give the neighborhood’s nice green lawns a trim.

I’m NOT kidding around.

A roving band of rent-a-goats did invade a Boise Idaho suburb this week.

Once they finished breakfast, the lawns probably looked like this . . .

Shortly after breakfast, “We Rent Goats” came by to reclaim the goats.

BAA-h . . . that’s better!

LOL! I’ve also heard of people renting goats to fertilize their lawns. 🙂 I always wanted a baby goat. Happy Saturday, Nancy!

When we were house hunting on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, our realtor suggested that we rent goats to clear 4 acres of weeds and overgrown landscaping. 😀

Oh yes, you kid. B-a-a-a-dly.

nrhatch - August 4, 2018

Goats are worth their weight in weeds!

Tippy Gnu - August 4, 2018

If I lived where grass grew I’d probably have goats, as I’m too lazy to mow lawns.

nrhatch - August 4, 2018

As long as they didn’t (a) eat your hammock or (b) dive into your Cheez-its . . . you’d be all set!

3. Ally Bean - August 4, 2018

I saw this on the news yesterday as it was happening and it put me into the best mood. I loved this story. Goats doing what goats do makes me happy.

nrhatch - August 4, 2018

Me too! I found the happenstance terribly amusing and fun.

4. joyroses13 - August 4, 2018

OH my gosh! I thought this was a joke, too funny that it really happened! I been telling my hubby that we need a pet goat. They are so cute. 🙂

nrhatch - August 4, 2018

I saw the marauding goats on the News last night ~> the hungry goats gave me a good giggle. 😀

joyroses13 - August 4, 2018

I can imagine. 🙂

5. Behind the Story - August 4, 2018

It’s nice to have a truly humorous story in the nationwide news.

A few years ago, when I visited Leavenworth, WA, they were using goats to chomp the weeds on some steep slopes near the middle of town. In a mountain town, it really made sense.

nrhatch - August 4, 2018

A goat is a very organic solution ~> a weed whacker and fertilizer all in one!

6. L. Marie - August 5, 2018

That is hilarious!!!! I love that story!

nrhatch - August 5, 2018

My favorite news story this week!

7. Kate Crimmins - August 5, 2018

Goats are so adorable!

nrhatch - August 5, 2018

Agreed. I love watching agile mountain goats bouncing from peak to peak . . . and nimble kids in the barnyard bleating for treats.

8. Barb - August 6, 2018

What a fun story. Just to add a regional, “me to”….in Portland we have a birthday goat who can be delivered right to your office ( along with a handler) and a birthday bouquet—-which you can feed the goat.

nrhatch - August 6, 2018

That would be so fun . . . even for the goat!

9. Zambian Lady - August 6, 2018

Now I have heard everything – “Rent a goat”? I like goat meat, though 🙂

nrhatch - August 6, 2018

It’s been 20+ years since I’ve eaten meat . . . so goat is not on the menu here.

I’m wondering. The private house where I’m now living in a rented room, has a very large lawn. The backyard is tremendous.
I’ve described it saying, “This isn’t a garden, it’s a park.”
I wonder who’d charge more for it’s upkeep? The landscaping company which my landlord hires, or a goat herder?

nrhatch - August 6, 2018

The landscape company may be a bit more “discriminating” than the goats which will eat ANYTHING and EVERYTHING . . . including the homeowner’s prize-winning roses!

11. rivergirl1211 - August 7, 2018

I saw that on the news and thought….. fine by me. I’d love a herd of goats to drop by!

nrhatch - August 7, 2018

Hello rivergirl1211! I’ve been round to your blog and like what I see ~> your husband is doing good work on that barn (inside and out) but his worksite is a bit “cluttered.” 😀

rivergirl1211 - August 7, 2018

Thanks for stopping by!
The husband and I are complete opposites in many ways. I’m type A organized (yes, my striped dishes are lined up in the cupboard) and he’s… well, not. As long as I can close the door and not see his mess? I’m good. Which is the main reason I never go in the basement. *shudders*

nrhatch - August 7, 2018

But the barn is GORGEOUS. He does good work!

12. Tammy - August 8, 2018

The farmer that we buy our CSA from has three goats that do weed elimination. I think it’s a great strategy. 100 would be a few too many

nrhatch - August 8, 2018

Three voracious goats sounds perfect for all but the largest plots of land!

13. roughwighting - August 8, 2018

This is also called organic lawn mowing…. 🙂

nrhatch - August 8, 2018

An environmentally-friendly accoutrement for well-tended lawns everywhere. 😀

roughwighting - August 9, 2018

The world needs more ….goats!

nrhatch - August 11, 2018

Let me chew on that for a bit. 😀
