Thanks for the important reminder. I’m straightening up my back as I type this in. This is what I find is so helpful with Yoga. In class we’re always bending our back backwards to realize how much we’ve been slouching. 👀
When I take the time to realign, I feel so much better. And, like you, I’m often surprised at how “off kilter” I’ve been.
As a child, my mother was constantly telling me to stand up straight. Mother knows best!
Mine too. In fact, I almost titled this “Mother Knows Best.” 😀
Okay, Mother.
Don’t you use that tone of voice with me, young man! 😀
Thanks for the links. Great article and exercise descriptions. Best of all is to remember all day long to stand and sit up straight while engaging the core. I have a mirror at the end of my hall. I’ve started trying to stand up straight, smile, and swing my arms confidently as I walk down the hall. It does make me feel better.
It makes me feel better instantly.
Another “quick fix” and “mood boost” is . . . a SMILE!
I’ll give it a try. Like Jill’s mom, my mom always said this too.
It feels great, Marie . . .
Thanks for this timely post, Nancy! I have been working on my posture lately and found much useful here.
Good luck, H! I remind myself to sit up straight as I type. And then I remind myself again. And again. 😀
Good one!! …. Its also improves our ability to breathe and our lung capacity! It reduces lower back pain and issues with pelvis!
Thanks, Val! The physical benefits + the psychological benefits make standing up straight ~> Well Worth The Effort!
