The Topiaries Are Tops! March 21, 2017

Posted by nrhatch in Home & Garden, Humor, Nature, Travel & Leisure.

Before Florida temps rebound for the sultry summer season, we’ve been “hitting the trails” to enjoy the fine weather ~ around the neighborhood, on the beach, and at Disney.

We got annual passes for the first time this year and have logged LOTS of miles traipsing through Epcot, the Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and the Magic Kingdom ~> 6.7 miles, 10.4 miles, 7.6 miles, 5.1 miles, 5.9 miles.

On our last 2 visits, I’m not sure how far we walked because my pedometer went on strike!

One of our favorite things so far has been all the gorgeous gardens and topiaries.

A Giant Panda in China enjoying a sunset snack of bamboo:

A Troll in Norway who seemed FROZEN:

Bambi, Thumper, and Flower in a bed of flowers:

Rafiki and Simba . . . “Ah Zabenya!”

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice & Bewitched Broomsticks:

A trio of glamorous ostriches enjoying the bright blue skies too much to bury their heads in the sand:

And these topiary wannabes ~ Dory and Marlin ~ who, I must admit, looked like two fish out of water:

Aah . . . that’s better!

It all looks wonderful and cheery! And a nice blue sky as well :). We feel a bit cheated as we had a very mild summer and the leaves are starting to fall off the trees already!

nrhatch - March 21, 2017

Thanks, Rainee. We’ve really enjoyed the atmosphere and scenery at the parks. More than I thought we would.

And I hear you. I always felt sad at summer’s end. That’s the reason we moved to Florida. We still have 4 seasons but Winter is the shortest and Summer is the longest ~ just the way I like it!

Thanks for sharing your terrific photos, Nancy. I love the giant panda. Bambi and Thumper look real.

We’ve been enjoying wandering through the gardens at the parks, especially at Epcot during the Flower and Garden festival which is now through the end of May. It’s been a pleasant surprise.

The topiaries are delightful! Thanks for sharing … and inspiring me to walk more 😉

nrhatch - March 21, 2017

We’ve walked at least 5 miles on each visit . . . seeing the number on the pedometer gives me a sense of accomplishment after goofing off with Goofy all day! 😀

4. Kate Crimmins - March 21, 2017

So beautiful!

nrhatch - March 21, 2017

We’ve really had a great time admiring the gardens . . . especially on the BLUE sky days.

Sometimes I even remember to take photos. 😀

5. Ally Bean - March 21, 2017

Colorful. Nothing like what I’m seeing around here. Thanks for sharing your photos.

nrhatch - March 21, 2017

Tomorrow we’re going back to Magic Kingdom. I’ll see if I can snap a few colorful shots to share.

6. L. Marie - March 21, 2017

Love the photos!! So beautiful! Thanks for posting these!

nrhatch - March 21, 2017

Glad you enjoyed, L! Next time we’re at Epcot (probably next week), I’m going to scout out a few more, including: Winnie the Pooh, Peter Pan & Tinkerbell, Beauty & the Beast, Lady & the Tramp, Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs, Anna & Elsa, Woody & Buzz Lightyear (from Toy Story), The Three Caballeros, etc.

We’re also going to tour the English Tea Garden, presented by Twinings of London.

Every few years we indulge in Disney annual passes, too, Nancy. We walk and people watch more than we indulge in the rides! The grounds are spectacular and I always say I would love to be employed on the ‘flower crew!” 🙂 I know you are really going to enjoy the year’s Disney entertainment!

nrhatch - March 22, 2017

We have enjoyed the parks more than I expected we would. It’s been ages since we’ve been to Disney together and, like you and Jay, we enjoy just wandering around soaking up the scene ~> the shows, the street performances, the gardens, the music, the fireworks, and (some of) the food.

We have been doing most of the rides, including the thrill rides, as lines and times permit, but they haven’t been our favorite thing. There are 3 we’ve enjoyed enough to do twice: Soarin’ (a bird’s eye view of the world), Mission: Space (a rocket launch to Mars), and the Kilimanjaro Safari (a huge jeep through the savana).

Our favorite coaster has been Big Thunder Mountain RR, but we haven’t been on them all yet due to wait times or a desire NOT to get soaking wet. We’ll wait for warmer weather to ride Kali River Rapids and Splash Mountain. 😀

8. Cecilia - March 22, 2017

What awesome pictures and beautiful mood! Thanks.

nrhatch - March 22, 2017

Glad you enjoyed, Cecilia. Disney has lots of photo opps in the parks. I’ll share a few more in the coming days.

9. Joanne Sisco - March 24, 2017

The colours and greenery!! Gorgeous!

What an interesting idea to get annual passes and enjoy the grounds as an opportunity to walk where there is always something going on!

nrhatch - March 25, 2017

This will be the one and only time we get annual passes to Disney. It’s been fun exploring the parks (and getting some exercise), but I’d rather walk on the beach without being pushed, shoved, jostled, and elbowed by hoards of Mickey fans intent on getting “the cheese.”

Next year, we’ll be happy to say, “been there, done that!”

Really gorgeous, Nancy! 🙂

nrhatch - March 25, 2017

Epcot is a beautiful park . . . we’re going next Friday to enjoy the Gardens and to hear Little River Band.
