A $50 Lesson February 18, 2017

Posted by nrhatch in Humor, Joke.

Sally-BrownRecently, while I was working in the flower beds in the front yard, my neighbors stopped to chat as they returned home from walking their dog. During our friendly conversation, I asked their little girl what she wanted to be when she grew up.

She said she wanted to be President someday.

“If you were President, what would be the first thing you would do?”

She replied, “I’d give food and houses to all the homeless people.”

Her parents, staunch Democrats, beamed with pride!

Donald-Duck-Baseball“Wow . . . what a worthy goal!” I said.  “But you don’t have to wait until you’re President to do that!”

“What do you mean?” she replied.

“If you come here and mow the lawn, pull weeds, and trim my hedge, I’ll pay you $50. Then you can go to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out and give him the $50 to use to buy food.”

250px-New_Orleans_City_of_Old_Romance_and_New_Opportunity_Crop_p_23_MoneybagsShe thought that over for a few seconds, then looked me straight in the eye and said, “Why doesn’t the homeless guy come over here and do the work, and you can pay him the $50?”

I nodded.  “Welcome to the Republican Party.”

Her parents aren’t speaking to me anymore.

Aah . . . that’s better!

Glad it tickled your funny bone chakra, Jill.

6. Behind the Story - February 18, 2017

I can see the wheels turning when you ask her to pull the weeds, mow the lawn and trim the hedge. Sounds like a lot of work.

nrhatch - February 18, 2017

Exactly. Now the idea of giving away the fruits of her labor is not so appealing.

7. llama30 - February 18, 2017

Haha can’t stop laughing! Wow that really is funny!

nrhatch - February 19, 2017

Glad you enjoyed.

8. Tina - Invisible Illnesses Blog - February 19, 2017

nrhatch - February 19, 2017

Yes! A quick study who is apt to become an astute young scholar.

9. Tiny - February 19, 2017

She was quick on her feet 🙂 But, of course, causes of homelessness are more complex.

nrhatch - February 19, 2017

Of course. To paraphrase: “You can lead the homeless to shelter, but you cannot make them stay.”

10. L. Marie - February 20, 2017

That’s hilarious!!!

nrhatch - February 20, 2017

Yay! Glad you enjoyed. She’s a bright girl.

Brilliant! That little girl has her head screwed on, for sure. Thanks for the laughs, Nancy. Both hubby and I guffawed. 😃

nrhatch - February 20, 2017

Yay! Glad you and hubby enjoyed. Nothing like grins, giggles, and guffaws!

anotherday2paradise - February 21, 2017

Agreed, Nancy. 😀

13. Debra - February 22, 2017

This is another really good one, Nancy! So funny! And a good illustration of how different we all are in political ideology and the way problems are both perceived and solved. I hope I can remember this one so that I can repeat it!

nrhatch - February 23, 2017

I find that sharing a joke 2-3 times helps me to remember it.

That said, right now, with he-who-must-not-be-named in the oval office, you don’t want to sound “too Republican.” 😀
