In the midst of the holiday hustle and bustle, taking time to press the “pause button” is important.  Here’s one of my favorite calming soothing mantras from the Mystic India CD:

To  further calm and soothe yourself:

Take a deep breath, expanding your belly. Pause. Exhale slowly to the count of five. Repeat four times.

Congratulations. You’ve just calmed your nervous system.

Controlled breathing, like what you just practiced, has been shown to reduce stress, increase alertness and boost your immune system. For centuries yogis have used breath control, or pranayama, to promote concentration and improve vitality. Buddha advocated breath-meditation as a way to reach enlightenment.

Science is just beginning to provide evidence that the benefits of this ancient practice are real. Studies have found, for example, that breathing practices can help reduce symptoms associated with anxiety, insomnia, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression and attention deficit disorder.

Aah . . . that’s better!

Very nice! I love when you share things like this! Thank you!
Good Morning!

nrhatch - November 21, 2016

I borrowed the Mystic India CD from the Island Library and listened to it most mornings for 2 months. Such a relaxing way to start the day.

3. Jill Weatherholt - November 21, 2016

Great way to start the day…thanks, Nancy!

nrhatch - November 21, 2016

Yes! Breathe . . . Relax . . . Repeat!

4. Kate Crimmins - November 21, 2016

I’m breathing now!

nrhatch - November 21, 2016

It’s such a calming practice . . . anywhere, any time.

5. Tippy Gnu - November 21, 2016

Ommm . . . zzzzz.

nrhatch - November 21, 2016

I see you have perfected the art of “letting go.” 😉

Falling asleep when meditating is also good for the central nervous system.

Tippy Gnu - November 21, 2016

Then I must have a very healthy central nervous system.

nrhatch - November 21, 2016

AND a healthy mental outlook!

Good idea, Nancy, especially for those of us with writing deadlines. (Today is mine.)

nrhatch - November 21, 2016

Best of luck meeting your writing deadline, Linda. And have a Happy Thanksgiving . . . filled with laughter and love.

Good one. You may also like to try ‘Chants of India’ by Pt Ravi Shankar.

Thanks. I’ll check it out.

I often listen to these when hubby is watching scary movies (or something really boring) on the TV. It always lifts my spirits 🙂

nrhatch - November 21, 2016

I tend to listen most often in the mornings while sipping my tea. So much better for me than diving headfirst into my To Do List.

9. Behind the Story - November 22, 2016

I love the music. Definitely relaxing.

nrhatch - November 22, 2016

The whole CD is a relaxing way to start the day . . . but this piece is my favorite. It resonates through and through.

10. Tiny - November 23, 2016

Thanks for the reminder, Nancy. I love this simple exercise, but tend to forget.

nrhatch - November 23, 2016

The more we practice, the more automatic this valuable tool becomes ~> as soon as we realize anger or angst is outliving its usefulness, we tune in to our breathing and begin the calming down process.

Very nice mantra, Nancy. I can walk into a yoga class tighter than a drum and return home a whole new person. The benefits are countless. And sometimes I just put meditative music on in the background of whatever I’d doing. Even without the time to stop and be more intentional, the music triggers the breathing and then, there you go! I will see if I can find the CD, as I know I would like it! Thank you!

nrhatch - November 23, 2016

I looked for the Mystic India CD on line and could only find used copies or copies being sold by unknown-to-me sellers . . . but my search was NOT exhaustive.

I’ve borrowed it from the Library about 12 weeks so far. 😀
