Long Live The Queen! September 9, 2015

Posted by nrhatch in People.

Queen Elizabeth II has now reigned longer than any other British Monarch . . . passing the previous record held by her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria.

The Queen succeeds Victoria as the United Kingdom’s longest-reigning monarch after 63 years and 218 days on the throne.

During that time, she has worked with a dozen British Prime Ministers and a dozen U.S. Presidents.

At 89 years old, she still remains quite active with her duties. I hope I have that kind of energy, when I’m that age.

nrhatch - September 9, 2015

I find her rather amazing. After being in the spotlight for all those years, I might find it hard to dredge up continued enthusiasm for the position. But she does. Day after day.

2. Eileen - September 9, 2015

nrhatch - September 9, 2015

Yes! We watched a fascinating documentary about her life last week (“In Her Own Words”). She still exudes “youthful enthusiasm” for her position.

7. L. Marie - September 9, 2015

What a legacy! I would have given up long ago. But as others have said, she’s amazing.

nrhatch - September 9, 2015

Yes! Apparently she as a great sense of humor that even veers to the “risque.” Imagine hearing the Queen share a “naughty joke” over a cup of tea.

8. Barb - September 9, 2015

She is amazing, I admire her greatly and I don’t think there will ever be another Monarch like her.

nrhatch - September 9, 2015

Certainly not in MY lifetime . . . unless I opt for cryogenics. :/

14. Behind the Story - September 13, 2015

During those 63 years, the world has changed so much, and yet Queen Elizabeth has been a steady, reliable presence. She is amazing.

nrhatch - September 13, 2015

Yes. I read somewhere that she makes hundreds and hundreds of public appearances each year ~ that would get old fast. But she remains steady at the helm.

15. Debra - September 17, 2015

I really admire the Queen. A few years ago I read a wonderful biography about her and I was so impressed with how well grounded she seems. One of the anecdotes that stayed with me was about how she often does her own dishes. Who’d guess that? 🙂

nrhatch - September 17, 2015

In the movie The Queen, she is shown at Balmoral, hiking about in mucky boots and cooking in the kitchen. I love that image of her having a “real life” amid all the pomp & circumstance.
