A Safari @ Lowry Park Zoo June 4, 2015

Posted by nrhatch in Animals, Art & Photography, Travel & Leisure.

Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa is a family friendly place with animals, rides, educational shows, and splash fountains for kids.

“I kid, you not.”

2015-04-21 12-42-29_0071

We went a few weeks ago to talk with the animals.

2015-04-21 12-28-42_0060

First stop, the Safari Explorer to ride through the Savannah.

2015-04-21 10-12-43_0011

We saw giraffes and zebras.

2015-04-21 10-45-57_0034

Rhinos and elephants.

2015-04-21 10-25-33_0020b

Turtles and tortoises.

2015-04-21 10-29-59_0023

We saw curious critters.

2015-04-21 10-16-36_0015

And others more standoffish and aloof.

2015-04-21 10-19-22_0018

We saw animals napping.

2015-04-21 12-28-50_0061

And eating.

2015-04-21 12-29-00_0062

Or waiting to be fed.

2015-04-21 12-42-54_0072

“Lettuce lets us help ourselves.”

2015-04-21 10-29-54_0022

We walked the Florida Boardwalk and saw otters, bears, and deer.

2015-04-21 12-12-44_0054

And sunbathing reptiles.

2015-04-21 12-12-37_0053

Decorated for Zoominations, pathways overflowed with colorful balloon elephants.

Some large.

2015-04-21 10-32-26_0025

Some small.

2015-04-21 10-32-20_0024

All guarded by lions.

2015-04-21 10-32-32_0026

The Blessing for Fortune and Safety

These elephants and their lion guards represent a world of peace and harmony which we wish to express to you all!

2015-04-21 10-32-43_0027

We saw Dragons and Peacocks.

2015-04-21 12-06-19_0044

2015-04-21 11-24-10_0038

Flowers and Fish.

2015-04-21 12-08-20_0049

And more.

2015-04-21 12-11-15_0052

As soon as we got home, we showered. Β We felt a bit “gamey” after hanging around animals all day.

2015-04-21 12-39-31_0069

Aah . . . that’s better!

1. Kate Crimmins - June 4, 2015

Sounds like a fun day.

nrhatch - June 4, 2015

Like Busch Gardens, it was fun to see . . . but once was enough. Being there during Zoominations added a splash of color.

Kate Crimmins - June 4, 2015

Once is usually enough for me. I especially enjoyed the Big Cat Rescue place near Tampa. It’s a sanctuary, not a theme park but that’s a place I would do again.

nrhatch - June 4, 2015

Thanks, Kate. We haven’t been to Big Cat Rescue. There’s a Big Cat Habitat in Sarasota too. Plus Giraffe Ranch. Several Bird sanctuaries. Etc.

Basically . . . there are LOTS of animals that need to be rescued from STUPID PEOPLE. 😦

still so in love with those peacocks! I need them in my back yard! Looks like a grand time to be had – love the bat picture!!

nrhatch - June 4, 2015

Peacocks + outdoor ornamentation = perfect together!

The town of Longboat Key has a roving band of peacock that stroll through the town and hang out in the trees. It’s such a treat to look up and seeing them parading on a tree limb.

3. Pix Under the Oaks - June 4, 2015

Love the flowers and fish and the Zoominations small elephant! Love it all! Sort of reminds me of St. Louis Zoo and a bit of Grant’s Farm. I love bats!

nrhatch - June 4, 2015

Morning, Pix! Glad you enjoyed the colorful balloons and the friendly bats.

4. anotherday2paradise - June 4, 2015

What a lovely outing! Gorgeous Zoominations, and I laughed at the bat pic. πŸ™‚

nrhatch - June 4, 2015

I think I look better upside down than I do right side up!

5. Jill Weatherholt - June 4, 2015

My favorite was the monkey hanging upside down! πŸ™‚ Great photos! I love the zoo.

Val Boyko - June 4, 2015

Was that the monkey next to the bat Jill?

nrhatch - June 4, 2015

I’m not surprised that the monkey was your fave ~ that’s a very flattering angle for most primates! 😎

nrhatch - June 4, 2015

The purple breasted monkey is a fan fave!

Jill Weatherholt - June 4, 2015

But of course. πŸ™‚

nrhatch - June 4, 2015

Mais oui!

Val Boyko - June 4, 2015

Tres belle!

nrhatch - June 4, 2015

C’est bon!

6. Val Boyko - June 4, 2015

Looks like a great day. Those balloon/lanterns are such fun too!

nrhatch - June 4, 2015

We enjoyed our visit, Val. Most of the animals seemed content in their habitats. A few seemed “too confined.”

Others, like the bat, were happy to hang around!

7. L. Marie - June 4, 2015

Yay!!! I loved all of the animal photos. And what a beautiful light show on that video!
I find turtles extremely fascinating. I’m not sure why.

nrhatch - June 4, 2015

Glad you enjoyed the light show and the animals. I like turtles too ~ we have some swimming in the lagoon.

8. Patricia - June 4, 2015

Good way to spend an afternoon. Get some exercise and see some of the creatures that share our world.

nrhatch - June 4, 2015

We did get some exercise as we walked and wandered. But a few too many people around to reap nature’s benefits.

9. Barb - June 4, 2015

Looks like good fun. Love the bat photo!

nrhatch - June 4, 2015

Hi Barb. Between you and me . . . that bat is batty!

And Tigger asked me to share this with Poppy:

Barb - June 4, 2015

Thanks Nancy, that was a cute pic of the cat having a hug; give Tigger one from me and Poppy!

nrhatch - June 4, 2015

Will do! Tigger looked like that kitten when he was a kitten.

10. NancyTex - June 4, 2015

Great photos, NH!

nrhatch - June 4, 2015

Thanks, NT!

11. Tiny - June 4, 2015

Oh that’s a nice place to visit! Great photos of the live and the just lively (colored) animals. Your photo was fun to play with on a Kindle, it always turns upside down 😱

nrhatch - June 5, 2015

Upside down . . . oh you turn me
Inside out and round and round!

Tiny - June 5, 2015

I did – I hope you didn’t get too dizzy πŸ˜€

nrhatch - June 5, 2015

Dizzy . . . my head is spinning
Like a whirlpool . . . it never ends
And it’s you, girl, making it spin
You’re making me dizzy 😎

12. Three Well Beings - June 9, 2015

I absolutely love the Zoominations! They’re whimsical and charming. It looks like such a fun day! Everyone can feel like a child at the zoo. πŸ™‚

nrhatch - June 9, 2015

We felt lots of positive energy throughout the park. I wonder what Darwin would have thought of the tortoises and turtles?
