While cruising around Terra Ceia Island, we stumbled across the perfect writer’s retreat.

2014-11-22 13-29-02_0024

Situated on a corner lot, the house overlooks the banks of Terra Ceia Bay.

2014-11-22 12-24-07_0008

Imagine writing at a desk in that turret, underneath the weathered vane.

2014-11-22 13-29-42_0025

Gazing out at blue skies, serenaded by sea breezes and wandering muse.

2014-11-22 12-23-55_0006

Of course, if we moved, we’d miss our neighbors . . . like Ichabod Ibis.

2014-11-22 11-10-32_0001

As well as Ida, Iago, Irene, Igor, Igraine, Ike, Ignatius, Ian, and Icarus.

2014-11-22 11-11-09_0004

Aah . . . that’s better!

Looks brilliant! And not just for the inspiration to write, but for the summer BBQ’s and family fishing trips. Wouldn’t mind smoking a wee joint in the scorching summer sun on the front lawn either to be honest.

nrhatch - December 2, 2014

Haha! Too bad the initiative to legalize Medical Marijuana didn’t pass here in FL. We could set it up as a “clinic.” 😛

2. Val Boyko - December 2, 2014

Such a lovely inspiring house!
Is there a smaller version available to buy …. ? 🙂
Seriously!
Val x

nrhatch - December 2, 2014

Maybe you could turn a few of the downstairs rooms into a Yoga and Meditation Retreat? _/!\_

Val Boyko - December 2, 2014

Now that would be perfect 🙂

nrhatch - December 2, 2014

I would definitely sign up for your Yoga Class. This morning I taught back-to-back water aerobics classes AFTER 2 weeks off due to chilly weather.

I’m T~I~R~E~D! But in a good way.

3. hrh7 - December 2, 2014

I like how the birds told you their names.
Lovely views.

nrhatch - December 2, 2014

Thanks, hrh7. As soon as I saw Ichabod, other names came filtering through for the congregation on the rocks.

4. Jill Weatherholt - December 2, 2014

Wow! What a beautiful home! It that a B&B or a private residence? I love the porch!

nrhatch - December 2, 2014

It looks like a B&B doesn’t it. Pretty sure it was a private residence. It caught my eye on the way in so I decided to snap a few pics on our way out.

That porch would be perfect for sipping an adult beverage . . . or a lemonade.

Jill Weatherholt - December 2, 2014

Oh yes, or we could turn the lemonade into an adult beverage. 🙂

nrhatch - December 2, 2014

Yes! Capital idea!

5. Pix Under the Oaks - December 2, 2014

That is a gorgeous BIG house. I’d never find CH in that house!

nrhatch - December 2, 2014

I used to lose BFF in our house in NJ ~ a big rambling ranch with a full basement with 2 bedrooms, 2 living areas, laundry, bath, etc. I’d yell “HELLO” and hear only an echo in reply.

6. William D'Andrea - December 2, 2014

The views would be too distracting, for me to concentrate on my writing.

nrhatch - December 2, 2014

You’re probably right . . . but that’s OK by me since I’m not a “serious writer.”

7. suzicate - December 2, 2014

Ah, simply divine!

nrhatch - December 2, 2014

I could just collapse on that porch and listen to the birds getting exercise.

8. Luanne - December 2, 2014

Gorgeous house, but you live by the birds?!

nrhatch - December 2, 2014

Yes. The bottom shots are from the back deck of our villa. Ichabod showed up again this morning, but the rest of his family was MIA.

9. Grannymar - December 2, 2014

Too big for me to rattle around in, on my own, but it does look tempting!

nrhatch - December 2, 2014

It might be a good house for 3-4 good friends to co-own, sharing cooking, cleaning, and sitting on the porch duties.

Grannymar - December 2, 2014

I’d have to find people willing to live with ME first! 😆

nrhatch - December 2, 2014

Oh, I’ve got it . . . the American Annex to Hour House! With a cook making scones in the kitchen!

10. Kate @ Did That Just Happen? - December 2, 2014

I’m sure it’s the perfect writers retreat, but it’s also just an awesome house! When I dream that’s the kind of house I picture!

nrhatch - December 2, 2014

I always planned to have a Victorian with front and back stairs and turrets on at least 2 corners ~ one for writing and one for painting. It hasn’t happened . . . and that’s OK.

There’s always a B&B to get the feeling for a long relaxing weekend.

11. Barb - December 2, 2014

It’s a beautiful house and the setting is perfect – for anything!

nrhatch - December 2, 2014

At one point, I thought I might like to run a B&B. Something like this would be perfect for an endeavor like that.

Croquet on the South Lawn anyone?

12. valleygrail - December 2, 2014

Wondering about the history of that lovely house. Inspiration would come easily there.

nrhatch - December 2, 2014

Unless we got too distracted by the view!

13. Tiny - December 2, 2014

That’s a lovely house! I would volunteer for the porch sitting duty, but like you, I think I’d miss my neighbors if I moved.

nrhatch - December 2, 2014

I’m with you, Tiny. We love where we live ~ close to the beaches without having to deal with beach traffic if we just want to go for a walk or bike ride through Robinson, Neal, or Perico Preserves.

14. Behind the Story - December 2, 2014

A beautiful house. It’s big enough for a one-week retreat for five or ten writers. Of course, only one or two could write at the desk in the turret.

nrhatch - December 3, 2014

We’ll tell the writers with the best imaginations to pretend they’re writing in the turret . . . and the rest of us will draw straws! 😛

15. diannegray - December 2, 2014

WOW! I could see some serious novels coming out of there 😀

nrhatch - December 3, 2014

I bet is has a great kitchen too! Full of yummy aromas and noshes to nibble at the completion of each chapter.

Or page. Or paragraph.

16. Shel Harrington - December 3, 2014

Sure DOES look like a great place to write from! I’m so crazy about turrets I had one put on the house we had built – even though it’s only one story b/c we couldn’t justify a second story for just the two of us. So we have this eclectic looking structure that has pale yellow siding two-thirds of the way down, the bottom third is gray rocks, and there’s a 15-foot turret at one end (which, of course, is my office!). After living in apartments and a mobile home for the first 20 years we were married, my other two requirements for the new house were no square rooms and no white walls. My husband, one of 9 children, had only one requirement: a dining room big enough so that no one would have to scooch their chair in if somebody was trying to get by. Sixteen years later we are still enjoying our oddball colorful house with the roomy dining area!

On another note – love the “snow” that seems to be falling across your blog – would love to know how that works.

nrhatch - December 3, 2014

I would love to see it, Shel. Have you shared a photo on your blog. If you want to come back and share the link, please do.

Snow ~> Dashboard ~> Settings ~> General . . . scroll down and click the box that says “Show falling snow on my blog until January 4th.”

If you leave the box checked, the snow will start automatically next fall on December 1st.

Shel Harrington - December 3, 2014

Thanks for the snow info, Nancy!

I don’t have any pictures of the house posted anywhere. Typical new house owners, we took rolls during the building process and the first year or so (Look! New House. Look! New house with flower growing in front. Look! . . . ), but haven’t taken one of just the house in over a decade. (Look! The porch needs painting!) A picture now would include all my metal ‘junk’ sculptures – because who doesn’t need a six-foot rooster and a flying pig?!

nrhatch - December 3, 2014

Believe it or not . . . I have pictures of two 6 foot roosters AND a flying pig on SLTW:

Photo Challenge ~ Morning

When Pigs Fly

Shel Harrington - December 4, 2014

So I’m not as weird as I thought I was. OR, we’re BOTH weird! Loved both rooster pics – the bottom one is a similar style to some of my treasures. I’m going to have to find a way to incorporate them into one of my blogs. Hmmm, Marriage is like a 6 ft Rooster. Or maybe, Getting FIERCE Before Pigs Fly. I’ll figure it out!

nrhatch - December 4, 2014

I don’t know about your marriage blog, but you bet you could incorporate an “anything goes” post into your Goalfest series AND I expect readers would love to see your Cock. 😛

17. Silver in the Barn - December 3, 2014

Do any meteorologists have an explanation for the snow in Florida?

If you were to show me a picture of that house, I would never guess Florida as its locale. I always think of FL as so brand spanking new and I guess that’s just wrong. Beautiful!

nrhatch - December 3, 2014

Florida doesn’t have the same English history as Wmsburg or Philadelphia or Boston, but it does have the OLDEST city in the U.S. ~> St. Augustine.

We just seem “new” because we have the “fountain of youth.” 😛

18. anotherday2paradise - December 3, 2014

What a beautiful house. I could move there in a heartbeat. Love that you have names for the Ibis. I haven’t got around to naming ours. 🙂

nrhatch - December 3, 2014

The day Ichabod showed up and I saw him preaching to the choir, I had to start assigning names. 😀

19. jannatwrites - December 4, 2014

That house does look beautiful. I have to wonder how much writing I’d get done with such a view in front of me, though 🙂

nrhatch - December 4, 2014

I think that’s a valid concern. Maybe write AFTER dark. 😎

20. Three Well Beings - December 5, 2014

What a beautiful house and location! If I were fortunate to have this house as a writer’s retreat I probably would spend all my time staring out the window at the beauty. Not sure I’d get much writing done! It would be fun to try, however. 🙂

nrhatch - December 5, 2014

I’d enjoy the views by day and write by night . . . at least until the novelty wore off. When we first moved here, I constantly craned my neck to look for cranes, woodstorks and ibis. And I got NOTHING done.

21. NancyTex - December 7, 2014

Looks like an idyllic writing retreat!

nrhatch - December 7, 2014

Or just a great place to hang out. BTW: How’s your house hunting going . . . or coming along?

NancyTex - December 7, 2014

So far only one house has made me look twice. Well, officially 3 times (just went back for another open house yesterday). It’s a quirky, amazing mid-century modern in a Frank Lloyd-Wright’esque style. It is completely impractical for my life (i.e. we would have to make some structural changes). Add to that that the roof and windows need replacing, and we would be looking at an additional $100k in renovation costs. So… net/net – we’ve agreed on a ceiling price we would be willing to offer for it (substantially less than they’re listing it for), but are watching and waiting to see if they lower the listing. (I worry about ‘offending’ them with too low ball an offer…)

So… it’s the waiting game…
Thanks for asking!

nrhatch - December 7, 2014

Sometimes patience PAYS OFF . . . with dividends. Sounds intriguing ~ glad that you’re balancing your heart and your head (and not getting in over your head).

NancyTex - December 7, 2014

Nope, I’m holding firm. Told hubby: I need to come out of this transaction net financially favourable (and by at least $200k) to have made the sale of my house worth it. Otherwise… why bother? I loved this house. I only sold it because I wanted to cash in… If I overspend on the next one, it’ll all be for naught.

nrhatch - December 7, 2014

It’s great that you have that NET as a benchmark ~ it will help you land in the right nest.
