One Last Mad Dance November 15, 2014

Sad-TigerBoisterous raindrops
Swallow the crisp autumn air
And morph into flakes

Leaves leave the bare trees
One last mad dance in the breeze
before winter’s freeze

Aimless snowflakes drift
Spinning through frigid night air
Winter longs for spring

santa

Palm trees and capris
A sunny, warm winter breeze
Parkas packed away

Aah . . . that’s better!

Love this, Nancy! Did you draw the picture? It’s only November and we’ve got the winter freeze here in Charlotte this morning with temps in the 20’s. 😦

nrhatch - November 15, 2014

We have chillier than normal temps, but nothing like what the rest of the country is experiencing. Today’s a good day for starting a pot of chili, tossing a log on the fire (or curling up in a blanket) to read (or write!) a good book.

I love that shot of Santa but didn’t draw it ~ I received it as a Christmas card from someone right after we moved to Florida. 😎

A sandman! How perfect. All I can say is we didn’t move far enough South when we landed in Virginia. Brrrrr this morning.

nrhatch - November 15, 2014

Some of the sand sculptures we see at the beach are fabulous, and we’ve seen a sandman just like the one Santa is sculpting.

We tuned in to the Weather Channel last night and shivered at the thought of the sub-freezing temps swirling round. Brrrr! Hope you see a rebound on the thermometer in a day or two.

I am experiencing nearly all the stanzas of your poem in one day currently! Love the picture, may I copy it please?

nrhatch - November 15, 2014

It’s fine by me, Pauline . . . BUT I don’t own the copyright.

I received the card from a friend for Christmas and scanned it to use in a few posts. That type of limited non-commercial use should qualify as “fair use” ~> if the owner asked me to take it down, I would.

thecontentedcrafter - November 15, 2014

Yes, I understand. Thank you.

Copyright Law was easier in pre-digital days. I did a Google search to see if I could find this image on line and find out more about it. No luck. The only site Google found with the image was here.

Our summer officially starts in December Down Under but it feels like we’re already there with today’s temp of 32. 😦

nrhatch - November 15, 2014

Wow! That’s warm! Temperatures in the states this week have been WONKY due to an arctic blast flowing through most states.

We were chilly this morning, but it warmed up nice. It’s in the low 70’s ~ about 23 down under.

5. Grannymar - November 15, 2014

We had a day of showers today with temperatures of 10ºC/50ºF. Normally at this time of year I am wrapped in more layers than an onion. It almost feels tropical, after several days of unending boisterous raindrops bashing on the window panes.

nrhatch - November 15, 2014

Boisterous raindrops bashing on the window panes are best enjoyed in small doses. Glad you had a chance to un-layer.

6. Yolanda M. - November 15, 2014

Lovely Nancy 🙂 It’s not officially winter yet and I am already longing for Spring – very sad.

nrhatch - November 15, 2014

I hear ya, Yolanda. Before we moved to Florida, I felt exactly that way. When fall temps arrived and I had to “retire” my flip flops, I felt sad. I’m much happier with warmer temps year-round.

7. diannegray - November 15, 2014

It’s certainly warming up here in Oz, Nancy. We need a little rain. I love the picture of santa on the beach 😀

nrhatch - November 15, 2014

He’s probably planning his next get-a-way . . . for January. 😎

8. Behind the Story - November 15, 2014

Beautiful, Nancy. You captured perfectly the waning days of fall. The cool weather here sent me out to buy fur-lined boots and wool socks and hat. I love Santa in the sand.

nrhatch - November 16, 2014

I had a friend who LOVED this time of year. She couldn’t wait to wear boots and sweaters and scarves and hats and mittens and gloves. Imagine the antithesis of her. C’est Moi!

That said, may your new socks and boots keeps your toes cozy.

9. Pix Under the Oaks - November 16, 2014

Yes, we know you are loving it! Lucky, lucky you two!! We had “Aimless snowflakes drift” yesterday! Love your haiku and Santa too! Good Morning!

nrhatch - November 16, 2014

Morning, Pix. Hope your day is wreathed in S~M~I~L~E~S!

10. NancyTex - November 16, 2014

I awoke to flurries dancing in the air this morning. A beautiful sight (from the warmth of my home)!

nrhatch - November 16, 2014

It’s fun watching the flight of flurries when we’re warm and toasty inside. But I’ll never move back north just to watch the flakes fall. 😛

11. kateshrewsday - November 16, 2014

That poem sums it up, Nancy. We’re heading toads the darkest part of the year now here in the UK, but the leaves are still taking the opportunity to dazzle with one last windswept dance. Wonderful poem.

nrhatch - November 16, 2014

Thanks, Kate. We lose about a minute of daylight a day from now until the solstice and then the days start expanding again. Is that about the same there?

12. Three Well Beings - November 16, 2014

There are so many facets of California living that aren’t all that appealing, but in winter, we are very popular. LOL! I’m not sure I would know how to survive some of the storms that I see on the news. When we get below 60 degrees I start complaining. 🙂

nrhatch - November 17, 2014

Same here! It’s 69 this morning. Yay! We’re going to see a performance art exhibit at the Ringling Museum, outside by the bay in front of Ca d’Zan.

13. jannatwrites - November 17, 2014

Great poem – perfect for the season changes that are happening (except in Florida… I doubt you’ve got snow!)

nrhatch - November 17, 2014

No snow . . . just chillier than normal temps.

It’s 70 this morning, at 8 am. Good, since we’re going to do something outside by the bay. Yay!

14. beeblu - November 22, 2014

Lovely cooling haikus, the first three. It’s 43 degrees Celsius in Sydney today – whew!

nrhatch - November 23, 2014

Wow! That’s 109 degrees Fahrenheit ~ our polar vortex must have pushed all the hot air down there.
