A-Moose Me! September 25, 2013

On our way to watch the sunset over the Gulf last Saturday, I spied this sign:

IMGP3890

Hmm . . . why do men get to join the Loyal Order of the Moose for $30 but it costs women $40?

IMGP3891

Is it because women eat too much at the Friday night buffets?  Or drink too much when they belly up to the bar?

Perhaps they are just too distracting?

IMGP3893

I know!  Maybe men are jealous because women are better hula hoopers?

OK . . . I give up.  You tell me.  Put on your thinking cap and come up with the best explanation you can for why men get to join the Loyal Order of the Moose for $30 but it costs women $40.

Get the Loyal Order of the Moose in your sights.  Take aim.  And . . . FIRE!

Try to a-moose.

IMGP3894

Aah . . . that’s better!

Because female moose don’t tolerate bull. 😀

nrhatch - September 25, 2013

Good one!

2. Andra Watkins - September 25, 2013

They are trying to keep women out? Women get bigger antlers?

nrhatch - September 25, 2013

Yes! And we all know that size matters. 😉

“My what a big rack you have.”

3. tlryder - September 25, 2013

We get girl cooties on everything and it raises the cleaning bill?

nrhatch - September 25, 2013

Yes! Like grade school recess and the echoing sound of . . .

“COOTIES!” 😛

4. katecrimmins - September 25, 2013

Women use more toilet paper so it’s more costly to have female members!

nrhatch - September 25, 2013

Bwahaha! That could be it. Plus the fact that the line to the ladies room gets too long ~ barring access to the bar. 😛

5. ericjbaker - September 25, 2013

Because men supply their own member?

**eyes shifting left and right**

nrhatch - September 25, 2013

Ha! So they’re getting a 2-for-1 special. An even better deal.

The only organization I belong to is my Church, which is open to the public and charges no admission. However any and all contributions, no matter how small, are totally voluntary and greatly appreciated; especially since we always have trouble paying the heating bill.

nrhatch - September 25, 2013

That’s not a-moosing! Try to stay “on point.” 😛

I can only come up with one possible explanation that resonates for me. They are hoping NO women join! I really cannot imagine any reason that makes more sense. LOL!

nrhatch - September 25, 2013

While taking photos of the Loyal Order Lodge, a couple arrived at the front door. I asked if they were members. They were. I asked if they could explain the policy to me. They couldn’t.

Like deer, or in this case moose, caught in the headlights, they claimed they didn’t know it was a current policy. Even after I pointed to the 2 foot x 6 foot sign on the edge of the parking lot.

I found that a-moosing. 😆

Women have to pay more because they usually have a bigger rack.

Sorry, that’s the first thing that came to my mind!

nrhatch - September 25, 2013

That’s one of the first things that came to my mind. Especially given the buxom moose on the side of the building. 😀

Perfecting Motherhood - September 25, 2013

Alright, I don’t feel so bad then!

9. colonialist - September 25, 2013

The men don’t really want any female meece to stop them from glugging themselves silly and talking bull (moose) so the extra fee is hoping the women will get in a huff and stampede off. Of course, they forget that women, like cats, are contrary creatures so it probably led to a flood of female applicants.

nrhatch - September 25, 2013

Or women parading around the Lodge dressed as men whilst calling each other Pat or Sam or other androgynous names! 😀

10. Pix Under the Oaks - September 26, 2013

It’s got to be a joke! That’s crazy!!

nrhatch - September 26, 2013

I know . . . it’s a traffic stopper! Designed to get people to take a second look at the newly painted Lodge for the Loyal Order.

11. Tokeloshe - September 26, 2013

It is very M-o-o-s-terious 😉

nrhatch - September 26, 2013

Good one, Tok! That’s a great play on words. 😀

12. jannatwrites - September 26, 2013

Haha…funny. I like the sign and the responses you’ve gotten. I’ve got nothing witty to add!

nrhatch - September 26, 2013

I went to the AMI Moose Lodge website to see if any explanation was offered for the signage about differing price points. If it’s there, I didn’t find it. But I did note that women have their own organization ~ Women of the Moose.

Maybe their dues are higher because they like to go on field trips?

13. Booksphotographsandartwork - September 26, 2013

They really don’t want women there so they think the higher price would keep more away.

nrhatch - September 26, 2013

If they aren’t trying to keep women away, it seems an odd pricing policy. Especially for an organization designed to “do good.”

14. shreejacob - September 27, 2013

It’s because the men fear that the women would prove to be better Moose and ..and….that would be the end of male moose in the moose clubs…:P

nrhatch - September 27, 2013

Fear can be highly motivating, eh? Even when it makes us look paranoid and silly. 😕

shreejacob - September 30, 2013

Mhmm…but that is what we have been conditioned to do from young…fear, fear everything!….it’s kinda….scary that..if you know what I mean!

Fearing the future is a tough way to wander through life.
