Happiness From A to Z September 16, 2013

These sayings (and others like them) have helped me leap over the ubiquitous pot-holes in the path on more than a few occasions:
All things must pass.
Be who you want to be.
Claim what isn’t, as if it were, until it becomes.
Don’t worry. Be happy.
Ego concerns (like anger) melt away when seen through the eyes of Spirit.
Forgive and forget.
Gratitude pulls us forward. Resentment holds us back.
How you relate to the issue . . . is the issue.
If you want to sing out, sing out. If you want to be free, be free. ~ Cat Stevens
Just leap and the net appears.
Let go the shore ~ untether your essence.
Make your own kind of music.
Now is all there is.
Only you can hear the voice within.
Pause and reflect.
Question yourself. Accept others.
Recognize the richness of your existence.
Simple pleasures are life treasures.
To thine own self be true. ~ Shakespeare
Unearth who you are . . . set your dreams in motion.
Value your uniqueness. Conformity is over-rated. Be the best “you” you can be.
What lies before us, and what lies behind us, are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.
X marks the spot ~ the treasure you seek lies within.
You complete yourself ~ with or without a squad of cheerleaders bouncing around on the sidelines.
Zen wisdom abounds.

“You complete yourself ~ with or without a squad of cheerleaders bouncing around on the sidelines.” Just beautiful, Nancy. Wonderful quotes.
Thanks, Don. Here’s to impressing ourselves with the wise decisions and choices we make. 😀
How about “Enjoy it while you’ve got it, whatever ‘it’ may be.”?
Absolutely!
Oh yes and how about, “Don’t sweat the small stuff and it’s all small stuff.”
You got to it before I did.
That’s such a biggie, Kate! (And Eric.) When I’m “sweating the small stuff,” I try to pause long enough to ask . . . “will this matter a year from now?”
If not, I do my best to let it go!
“It’s better to give than to receive”
Yes! I still enjoy getting the occasional gift . . . but the good feelings don’t last as long as when I give a gift to someone else.
“It’s just a flesh wound.”
He may be a little crazy, but no one can say the Black Knight isn’t an optimist.
Bwahaha!
This morning, we went to the Ringling Museum to see a photographic exhibit of 1880’s Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). As we were leaving, a volunteer offered us a ride across the grounds in the “Club Car.” I jumped at the chance to sit down.
While climbing aboard, I stepped on the back bumper and it “gave way” ~ it was CRACKED and NOT a stable platform to put my weight on. I stepped over it, sat down and enjoyed the ride.
When we got off the trolley, I asked the driver to come back so I could show him the “swinging baby buggy bumper” ready to collapse and cause an unwary patron to slip, trip, or fall.
The driver was appreciative that I pointed it out and he zipped off to the Maintenance Department to get them to re-insert 3-4 missing screws.
Why am I telling you this? Hmm . . . I’m not sure.
I’m happy I didn’t sustain a flesh wound when I stepped on the unstable “stepping tool.” I’m pleased I didn’t take a tumble off the cart like Humpty Dumpty. I’m glad I took the time to point it out to him and that he took the time to go get it fixed.
But I suspect I’m rambling from lack of sleep this weekend. Having house guests is “hard work.” 😛

How you relate to the issue . . . is the issue. I like this one, Nancy. I like all of them actually, but I seem to remember Captain Jack saying this one once!
I’m not certain where I heard it first. I just know I adopted it as soon as it appeared on the horizon.
Which Captain Jack?
Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) . . . Jack Morgan (the pirate on the yo ho ho and a bottle of Morgan Rum bottle) . . . or Captain Jack of Billy Joel fame?
That was it! Sparrow! I couldn’t get the name to appear as I was thinking of the other captain, Jack Harkness from Torchwood. There are a lot of Captain Jacks aren’t there!
Yay! That’s the first Captain Jack that sprung to my mind.
Now that is a very impressive compilation! Very nice! I’d like to see that painted on a wall. 🙂
In Country Living magazine (many moons ago), I saw a farm style kitchen with white walls and sayings like this painted all around the room in a flowing cursive.
I expect, in time, they become “invisible” ~ but when first painted, they are terrific mindful reminders.
I did something similar once with the words “Love & Gratitude” ~ I printed out a whole sheet of those words in LARGE BOLD FONTS, cut them apart and stuck them around the house on mirrors, my computer, the fridge, etc.
Great list of quotes and sayings! I rather like, “You complete yourself ~ with or without a squad of cheerleaders bouncing around on the sidelines” because our happiness should not be dependent on a reflection from others. It grows from the inside out. (Good thing, because I think the cheerleaders forgot to cheer for me 😦 )
Yes! Using an internal barometer to gauge our efforts is so much easier than waiting around for someone else to notice. 😉
I loved the quotes! My favorite one which I have repeated throughout the years to friends and to myself is “this too shall pass,” and it helps to continue moving forward in life.
One day in the grocery store, the lady in front of me in line was growing flustered because her credit card wasn’t swiping properly. I tapped her on the shoulder, grinned, and said “This too shall pass.”
At first, she looked like she wanted to deck me, and then she burst out laughing, turned her card around, swiped it correctly, and walked away smiling.
That’s funny! 😀
I love to spread laughter. 😆
How you relate to the issue… is the issue. Oh yeah, I like this one.
Allof them are good Nancy. Must mark as a favorite!
Yay! That’s a great reminder that most things in life are a product of internal interpretation. If we are OK with whatever IT is, we can remain calm in the eye of the storm.
Thank you for sharing these…It’s an awesome list 🙂
Thanks, Shree. I find that simple sayings make lessons easier to incorporate into the journey.
I don’t think I will, just leap and the net will appear. 🙂
The first time the net doesn’t appear will be my LAST jump.
