Spoiler Alert: This movie is best watched “in the dark.” Avoid spoilers.
From Netflix:
Emily copes with her depression by taking antidepressant medication. But when her dire state apparently spirals out of control due to her husband’s prison release, she turns to a new medication that alters her life forever.
That’s enough.
That’s all you need to know about this fantastic film filled with twists and turns.
OK . . . you want a bit more?
This psychological thriller addresses the side effects of prescription medications, the introduction of experimental drugs to the marketplace, pharmaceutical payments to doctors, insider trading, and more, amid a story with a twisting plot line and a satisfactory conclusion.
The cast is perfect, from Rooney Mara as Emily to Jude Law and Catherine Zeta Jones as psychiatrists.
Aah . . . that’s better!
I don’t know.. 😕
Haha! I felt the same with Shree recommended it and I read that blurb on Netflix. The night we watched it, I half expected to turn it off after 15 minutes. Instead, BFF and I sat on the edge of our seats and fully enjoyed the compelling ride.
Caveat: There is a little violence and a little sex, but neither is overdone or drawn out.
And thanks for teaching me a new face! 😕
Your welcome! I love that little face!!
I think he might become my new favorite.
Great movie – we watched it a couple of weeks ago. We watched Smashed last night and I quite enjoyed it. Another good one is Premium Rush 🙂 (we seem to have similar taste in movies)
I’m going to check out Smashed and Premium Rush right now. Thanks, L!
Oh dear…I feel so left out…never watch movies!
I rarely/never go “to the movies” but enjoy curling up on the sofa to immerse myself into stories from other places and times.
That seems a refreshingly different and challenging theme for a story.
A story I wish I’d written. 😀
I saw this a while back. It was better than expected and kept me guessing. I liked the complexity of the story.
I felt just the same . . . much better than expected.
Saw this a few weeks ago – a rather twisty thriller
My kind of thriller . . . a film that relies on plausible twists and turns rather than gratuitous violence.
Sounds too scary! I might need more blood pressure pills if I watched it! My dad would really like for me to stop taking Lunesta. He says it ruins your short term memory, true. But no sleep at all would be worse. I’m fighting with the insurance company because they want me to take Ambien which I really do not trust.
I hope you can get the sleep you need without unnecessary and unpleasant side effects, Linda. 😕
I don’t know much about Lunesta or Ambien . . . I just know that I need sleep to feel my best. It’s a precious commodity, indeed.
You haven’t yet steered my wrong with your movie reviews! I hadn’t even heard of this one! I’m sure this title is going on my list! 🙂 I find the topic very interesting.
It touches on other medical-legal issues too, Debra. Lots of food for thought and discussion.
I watched it a 2nd time, once I knew the ending, to see all the clever “ins” and “outs.” I planned to fast forward through the “slow parts,” but didn’t even touch the remote. I just enjoyed it all over again.
This sounds like one I would enjoy. I’ll have to check this out on a weekend after the kiddos are asleep.
Yes. Not one to watch with the whole family.
You’re welcome! and so glad you enjoyed it!! 😀
It’s one of those movie I could watch again…just for some of the conversation…
I rarely watch a movie twice . . . this one I did. I wanted to see it again knowing the ending. Still enjoyable.
Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll put it on my list.
I can’t find it on my iPad’s Netflix. Hmmm.
We did rent it from Netflix. I’m not sure that they have identical offerings for DVD’s vs. streaming.
Looks like an interesting movie. Did you see Limitless with Bradley Cooper (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1219289/)? It’s about a writer who starts taking some pills as he has writer’s block and he starts developing amazing abilities. But then things start going wrong. That was really good too.
I loved Limitless! Fascinating movie.
