Consistency is Over-rated May 10, 2013

If a man admits
That a choice he made was wrong
Will he then be right?
Looking within leads
to the next best step . . . just start
and the way appears
Final walk-through: turn
in the keys and turn the page
as that chapter ends
Consistency is
over-rated . . . to become
whole, let go the past
An early morning
Up before the dawn, we yawn
As the full moon shines
Aah . . . that’s better!
Sidey’s Weekend Theme ~ Inconsistency
nice thoughts! let go, you aren’t the same person you were ‘back then’
Yes! Heraclitus – “No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man.”
wow, i really like that too, your pages are full of gems today! c
Thanks, Cecilia. On the farm, you have a front row seat to the turning of the wheel . . . even if you rarely get the chance to sit down. 😉
Not only is it overrated, it’s impossible. Some über-competitive people like to “set the bar impossibly high, so I’m always reaching.”
Sometimes it makes them super annoying to be around.
Uber competitives are uber annoying.
As are people who try to drag us back into the past by saying things like . . . “Well, you USED TO like XYZ!”
evolving positive “consistency” within…potential is there. Consistency around us…not likely….things change….sometimes quickly!
May we continue to grow in directions that illuminate our passions. 😀
“A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds” … Emerson
Thanks, Judson! I love it! Especially, “hobgoblin of small minds.”
It is a huge relief to me, as you can well imagine, that consistency is overrated 😀
It is a huge relief to me too! 😛
I’m so glad – being the inconsistent person I am 😉
So much more FUN to just go with the mood of the moment. 😎
Yup! “Consistency is the hob-goblin of little minds.” You’ll never find any consistency in me, because consistency is the hob-goblin of little minds.
And, having read Judson’s comment after I wrote mine, I’ll tell you that in my own mind, my quote is better. . ANY consistency counts. . .Have you ever heard the phrase, “Consistency is the hob-goblin of little minds?”
I’ve heard Emerson’s quote before . . . I expect that he meant that some habits are good habits. You know, like brushing our teeth every day. Or taking regular showers.
When one’s consistently over-ated, one’s consistency gets overrated,
Which is known as over-weighted? 🙂
Yup, over-ated –> over-weighted!
These are excellent! Consistency IS perhaps over-rated. Much better to start fresh each day. Great interpretation of Sidey’s weekend theme, Nancy!
Fresh starts, and pulling up roots, help us see life’s possibilities anew . . . but we are such creatures of habit, eh?
Good one, Nancy, no point in trying to travel forward by looking backwards. Have a great weekend xxx
Thanks, Cin!
Our minds get cluttered, like attics, filled with old bags and accumulated junk. It’s up to us to sweep away the cobwebs.
” To become whole, let go of the past,” these words stood out loud and clear for me. By being in the past or even the future we become fragmented, not focused on what matters: which is the moment of now. Just thinking out loud… 🙂
Good thoughts, Marie. When we step firmly into the present, we are grounded in the NOW.
If there’s one thing to be said about life, it’s that life is inconsistent! And unpredictable. Go with the flow…
Yup. “That’s the way we’ve always done it” . . . is not reason enough, standing alone, to keep doing it that way. 😀
To become whole, let go of the past – I like that. I think it’s good to acknowledge a misstep, but not to dwell on it and hold us back from the next step. (And it helps to carry our own stepping stone, like the woman in the cartoon :))
Exactly! Have stepping stone, will journey. 😀
