Aah . . . that’s better!

How about you? Any fun plans for the weekend?

Emerson Quillin grew up in a small town in the southwestern part of Indiana called Bloomfield. He found out early in his teens that he could do three things well: shoot pool at Elmer Pool Room, hit an accurate 20-foot jump shot and doodle with the best of them. He doodled his way through Bloomfield High School. The doodling became his penchant and he perfected a very casual style of art that he still maintains today.Β

My wife and I are taking a day trip on the train from Raleigh down to Salisbury, NC just for the fun of it. Salisbury is a little old turn of the (20th) century railroad town just north of Charlotte. The 100 year-old train station and the entire historical and revitalized downtown area are right together. I’ve ridden trains in Europe, but never in the USA. Looking forward to the experience! $35 each round trip … not bad for a full day of doing something new and different.

That sounds like so much FUN! We lived in Winston-Salem for 8 years and have been to Salisbury to the Train Museum and on a brief train ride. Choo Choo!

nrhatch - May 3, 2013

Just googled it. We went to the NC Transportation Museum in Spencer: http://www.nctrans.org/

But Spencer and Salisbury are spitting distance to each other.

Looks like it will be fun!

I’m driving to Phoenix with the kids to visit my parents on Saturday, then on Sunday, we’re clearing out the garage so cabinets can be installed on Monday. Too much excitement here…I think I’d rather be at Anna Maria Island πŸ˜€

nrhatch - May 3, 2013

I’m sure your parents are looking forward to seeing you and the boys. Clearing out the garage does not sound like fun, but I bet you’ll feel quite satisfied on Monday after the cabinets are installed. Aah . . . that IS better! πŸ˜‰

3. diannegray - May 3, 2013

I’m looking for flooring for the RUC this weekend – may sound boring to some but I’m excited!!! πŸ˜€

nrhatch - May 3, 2013

Having renovated one 100 year old farmhouse . . . I can say that re-doing the floors rated a “9” on the excitement meter!

4. colonialist - May 3, 2013

Sounds like an eminently sensible way of spending a Saturday – but after the wine, how to get home from Pine?

nrhatch - May 3, 2013

Fortunately, I have a designated driver on permanent payroll ~ BFF doesn’t have an affinity for spirits!

colonialist - May 3, 2013

Keep that relationship well cultivated!

nrhatch - May 3, 2013

Haha! Yes. He’s a KEEPER. πŸ˜‰

5. ericjbaker - May 3, 2013

Taking my son to see Iron Man 3, though a third party in our household has ideas about shopping at Nordstrom’s. Hmmm.

Have fun at the shindig.

nrhatch - May 3, 2013

Enjoy Iron Man 3 (and shopping at Nordstrom’s!) πŸ˜€

6. Pix Under the Oaks - May 3, 2013

Love the artwork! Looks like something you would find on a tee on AMI! Have fun you two.. πŸ˜€

nrhatch - May 3, 2013

Thanks, Pix. We love Emerson’s cartoons. He has a store on the island with t-shirts, prints, napkins, and funny cards . . . on Pine Avenue. Hope you and CH have some R&R this weekend.

7. two engaging goldens - May 3, 2013

Hubby and I are doggy sitting our Honey who has had a 2nd cruciat ligament operation on one of her legs as the first one failed. We take turns to do things around the farm but the investment in time, emotion and not forgetting money, means we are taking no chances of her jumping about and playing with our other golden. Another few weeks to go. Then when the xrays are good I will say “Ah, that’s better! πŸ™‚

nrhatch - May 3, 2013

Aww . . . Honey is lucky to have you as a babysitter. We met an 11 year old Golden Lab tonight, Aspen, who tore her ACL a few months ago. She is also taking it slow.

Hope your next x-rays are good. πŸ˜€

8. Three Well Beings - May 3, 2013

Food and Wine on Pine sounds like a really fun event! We don’t have any particular plans this weekend. A family birthday party tomorrow night and I may just slow down a little bit and take it as it comes! πŸ™‚

nrhatch - May 3, 2013

Enjoy the Birthday Party, Debra. Unscheduled “flow time” is a great way to unwind. Enjoy.

9. Patricia - May 3, 2013

My plan is to finish a project I started months ago. Or maybe not…

nrhatch - May 3, 2013

You sound like me! “Well . . . let’s just see, shall we?” πŸ˜›

10. sufilight - May 3, 2013

This I like about Florida, there are always fun activities to do. πŸ™‚ We don’t have any major plans, we are going to garage sales on Saturday; in Oregon they are very popular.

nrhatch - May 3, 2013

This area is usually chock full of FUN events. Enjoy the garage sales . . . the thrill of the HUNT!

11. Willuam D'Andrea - May 4, 2013

I have no special plans. This morning I’m just checking out my e-mails and leaving feedback for certain projects on webook.com. Then on Sunday I’ll be attending Church. However, plans are being made for a future weekend.
I’ve received an invitation to attend a High School Reunion. On Saturday, October 19th, the Harborfields High School Class of ’63 will be holding the 50th Anniversary Reunion, at the Centerport, NY Yacht Club. All the details haven’t been worked out yet. Considering its location, the event will probably be very expensive. I’m living on a fixed income, and have to stay within a budget; so I don’t know if I’ll be able to afford to attend.
There are other alternatives. There is one I might suggest. We’ve had othe reunions, which were actually held in the Harborfields High School cafeteria. I don’t see any reason why we can’t do that again. After all, the reunion is, in a way, a Gathering of the Tribe. Since this is the 50th Anniversary, it may be the Final Gathering; and the Cafeteria is the Class’s Traditional Gathering Place.

nrhatch - May 4, 2013

I hope that you’ll be able to attend your reunion. Maybe you should set up a reunion fund for yourself? Every time you make a choice that saves you $’s (using a coupon, NOT going out for coffee, etc.), set the savings aside for your reunion.

12. pix & kardz - May 5, 2013

plans for the weekend? a day trip was planned for today, and I just got back about an hour ago or so. went south of the US/Canada border with friends in search of tulips in the Skagit Valley which are in their prime in April. ‘in April’ is the operative phrase. in any case the weather was sunny and warm and we had a great day together in La Connor. it felt like summer!

nrhatch - May 5, 2013

Yay! Sounds like a FUN trip . . . even if the Skagit Valley tulips were past their prime.

13. kateshrewsday - May 5, 2013

I love Emerson’s work, Nancy. And the Food and Wine on Pine sounds just up my street, though it is the other side of an ocean.

nrhatch - May 5, 2013

Emerson’s bright art is splashed around the island ~ he says so much in so few words.

We saw an amazing pool on your side of the pond, Kate. A ballroom floor lowers, fills with water, and becomes a 10-foot-deep pool . . . and it’s 80 feet underground!

This isn’t it . . . but it’s the same idea:
