So I’m purging my filing space of extraneous paper and clutter.

IMGP1290b

The shredder’s earning its keep as I utter and sputter . . .

Nice room! If I had one set up like that though I’d be very tempted to take lots of “creative snoozes” lol. Sitting on my bed with a little coffee table pulled right up to it with the laptop on it for some weird reason prevents me from doing that!

nrhatch - February 8, 2013

I’m not much of a napper . . . but I put the bed to good use to spread out piles of paper destined for the shredder. 😀

2. Andra Watkins - February 8, 2013

Nancy, I have broken two shredders…….I don’t know what that says about me……….The room looks great.

nrhatch - February 8, 2013

My shredder groans in loud protest if I try to force feed it too many sheets in one mouthful.

3. sweetdaysundertheoaks - February 8, 2013

Lovely room with a great view!

nrhatch - February 8, 2013

Until moving here, my desk faced a windowless wall or provided a glimpse of an uninspiring hall.

I prefer a view of the lagoon . . . even if my productivity suffers. 😀

sweetdaysundertheoaks - February 8, 2013

Yep Nancy I don’t think I would get a thing done. I would just want to go out and play!

nrhatch - February 8, 2013

Some days I don’t get a thing done. 😉

4. Pocket Perspectives - February 8, 2013

what a joy to gaze out a window!

nrhatch - February 8, 2013

There is usually some enticing sight to see. 😀

5. suzicate - February 8, 2013

My problem is I inevitably destroy (or dispose of) something I later wished I’d kept!

nrhatch - February 8, 2013

For me it’s just the opposite . . . parting may be “sweet sorrow” but once gone it’s “out of sight, out of mind.”

6. Sandra Bell Kirchman - February 8, 2013

Lovely room – it looks very peaceful. The window is a godsend. My room has a large window across the wall to my right. It is rather high up and so all I see are the sky and the beautiful big trees in our yard. That’s enough. After gazing at them for a few minutes, I am often reinspired in my writing.

nrhatch - February 8, 2013

Yes! An osprey (fish hawk) just flew over the lagoon and landed in the trees to enjoy a picnic lunch of sushi. 😀

7. Grannymar - February 8, 2013

Wonderful calm room and the hat on the wall has given me an idea. 😀 I do like your visitor on the fence and being near a window gives plenty of opportunity to exercise your eyes by looking into the distance.

nrhatch - February 8, 2013

Oh, good . . . the hat on the wall caused you to put on your thinking cap.

Grannymar - February 8, 2013

😆

8. Tom (Aquatom1968) - February 8, 2013

Your writing space looks very roomy, Nancy! Mine is so full of clutter I have to move the keyboard if I want to use the mouse! 😯

nrhatch - February 8, 2013

My writing space is just a nook in the corner of the bedroom . . . it works well if kept uncluttered and de-weeded. 😀

9. dearrosie - February 8, 2013

I love your desk with a view. I discovered that I cannot work facing a wall.
When I was on sick leave last year I cleaned out my papers and books and felt so liberated and cleansed. This morning I searched for something that should’ve been lying there in the pile of papers but I’d thrown it out in the cleaning frenzy… oh well!

nrhatch - February 8, 2013

That’s probably part of Murphy’s Law . . . if you toss it, you’ll need it again . . . if you don’t, you won’t. 😉

But it is so liberating to hear that shredder earning its keep.

dearrosie - February 8, 2013

My poor little shredder could not have kept up with the huge amount I threw out. I sent it to Mr F’s work – they have a visiting shredder every few months.

nrhatch - February 8, 2013

When I worked for Salisbury University, I cleaned out BAGS of recycling when the industrial-sized shredder visited. 😀

10. Don - February 8, 2013

O’ so that’s where you sit and write.

nrhatch - February 8, 2013

That’s the spot! 😀

11. kateshrewsday - February 8, 2013

Hurrah! Your writer’s desk, Nancy!
(Jolly tidy, too…)

nrhatch - February 8, 2013

Thanks, Kate. I’m glad that BB asked for a visual depiction of my writing space since I hadn’t thought of posting it.

12. diannegray - February 8, 2013

This is a beautiful spot, Nancy!

nrhatch - February 8, 2013

It’s one of my most favorite spots on the planet. Right now, a duck is LAUGHING outside my window and the sun is setting just past the mangroves.

13. ericjbaker - February 8, 2013

Music to my eyes (zoinks!). I despise clutter.

nrhatch - February 8, 2013

I’m happiest when things are clutter-free! Or at least organized into piles with some semblance of order. 😉

14. Playamart - Zeebra Designs - February 8, 2013

how did i miss that you were /are a zebra person?!!!! great post!

nrhatch - February 8, 2013

I’m a HUGE fan of zebras. They make me SMILE:

Three Zebras and an Ass

15. sufilight - February 8, 2013

Beautiful room! I see that a you get plenty of sunshine. I had posted the view from my little office in Facebook. Will see if I share the picture in WordPress. 🙂

nrhatch - February 8, 2013

Thanks, Marie. We do get lots of sunshine here . . . so much better than an interminable string of gray days.

I’d love to see the view from your office. 😀

16. cecilia - February 8, 2013

is that your view!? why, that is fantastic!.. Kupa will weep with envy.. how wonderful to be able to look out like that! c

nrhatch - February 8, 2013

That’s a partial view of our lagoon . . . where today I saw pelicans, ducks, herons, egrets, an osprey, and cormorants.

It never grows old. 😀

17. pix & kardz - February 8, 2013

wow, is that your view! what a nice office that would be to work in….

nrhatch - February 8, 2013

Thanks, Kris. It makes spending time at my computer a constant delight. 😀

18. Connor @ MyNameisConnor.com - February 8, 2013

Hahaha! Oh, I dread this perennial project. . . I generate so much paper waste. It never seems like much in the moment, sure, but at the end of any project, three or four edited drafts, it’s piles and piles, practically reams of the stuff! I really could wallpaper any place I’ve ever lived floor to ceiling with the printouts during my tenure there.

Best of luck, at least you have power tools (the shredder).

Connor Rickett blogs at his business site and at his personal (for fun) site. Stop by and say hi!

nrhatch - February 9, 2013

Hi Connor. Good to see you. I can’t imagine tackling this task without the shredder. Of course, in pre-shredder days, homes weren’t dumping grounds for reams and piles of paper.

Even with paperless billing and on-line bill pay, paper is maintaining a foothold in this digital age.

Connor @ MyNameisConnor.com - February 9, 2013

Yeah, it’s been awhile. I imagine that it was all easier before printers were fast and cheap and two to a home, too.

19. bluebee - February 10, 2013

Oh, it’s still the same wonderful view as your 2010 one – time IS fleeting!

nrhatch - February 10, 2013

Yes. We’ve been here for just over 3 years . . . it’s the same view, ever changing. 😀

20. bluebee - February 10, 2013

PS – just love the zebra drawing – from one of your nieces or nephews?

nrhatch - February 10, 2013

Yes . . . Sarah at age 10. 😀

21. jannatwrites - February 10, 2013

Nice, relaxing space you’ve got here (the view doesn’t hurt, either!)

nrhatch - February 11, 2013

It’s a great place to “work.” 😉

22. colonialist - February 13, 2013

I do have much further to go to stagger to bed after too long a session!

nrhatch - February 13, 2013

Yes . . . there is absolutely NO EXCUSE for me to fall asleep over my keyboard. 😀

colonialist - February 13, 2013

Unless utterly plastered! 🙂

nrhatch - February 13, 2013

Moi?

23. Christine Grote - February 22, 2013

I bet that felt good. I look forward to the day when I can do the same.

nrhatch - February 22, 2013

As is often the case, I got sidetracked and turned my attention to my overflowing bookshelves (in order to collect books for the library book sale). I’ve donated 25 books thus far . . . and have my eye on 5-10 more. Then, it’ll be back to shredding files.

24. Carol Balawyder - June 7, 2014

You are so tidy. I am so envious! What a lovely, inspiring writing space you have, Nancy.

nrhatch - June 7, 2014

My desk faces that lagoon and we often have fabulous visitors that distract me from writing . . . that’s why my desk is so neat.

Carol Balawyder - June 8, 2014

A desk facing a lagoon. How romantic and inspiring!

nrhatch - June 8, 2014

We just got back from a 2 mile sunset walk on the beach ~ another place that is romantic and inspiring. We admired the balconies and decks overlooking the beach, and pictured ourselves sitting up there “spying” on the goings on. 😎
