The Magic of Belle Isle September 7, 2012

Posted by nrhatch in Books & Movies, Happiness, People, Writing & Writers.

I learned of a film today, added it to my Netflix queue, and couldn’t wait to share it with you.

In The Magic of Belle Isle, Morgan Freeman (always a treat to watch on the big screen), plays Monte Wildhorn, a Western novelist whose passion for writing hits an impasse (after he hits the bottle a few too many times).

Damn writer’s block!

Seekling inspiration, he rents a lakeside cabin on Belle Isle for the summer.

There, he finds inspiration . . . or, perhaps, inspiration finds him.

Rather like the chicken and the egg, it can be difficult to discern which is “cause” and which is “effect.”

Life may not always meet our expectations but, when it does, it’s MAGIC!

Aah . . . that’s better!

Quote to Ponder:  The desire to write grows with writing. ~ Desiderius Erasmus

Thanks…I will check it out, love Morgan Freeman.

nrhatch - September 7, 2012

He never disappoints. His performance in Invictus is proof positive that he belongs on stage and screen.

Perfecting Motherhood - September 8, 2012

I think it must have been one of his best performances. But my favorite may still be The Shawshank Redemption.

nrhatch - September 8, 2012

Yes! A perfect role for him . . . a terrific movie for us.

2. ryoko861 - September 7, 2012

Unfortunately those times don’t happen enough.
Sounds like a good flick though, I’ll check it out!

nrhatch - September 7, 2012

Here’s to find Magic around the next corner! 😀

3. aawwa - September 7, 2012

Sounds lovely! I enjoyed the quote to. Lorraine 🙂

nrhatch - September 7, 2012

Thanks, Lorraine. I love it when a “feel good” movie, that flew under my radar when released in theatres, bumps into me once available on DVD.

4. SidevieW - September 8, 2012

He does make any part of the world his stage, doesn’t he?

Thank you for the tip off!

and no charity is needed (its a flat stage)

nrhatch - September 8, 2012

Thanks, Sidey . . . I may toss another post into the ring this week. One with a slightly less tenuous connection to the theme. 😉

SidevieW - September 8, 2012

keep at it, I suspect it will be fun

nrhatch - September 8, 2012

It always is! I adored Col’s take on your theme. What a wordsmith.

5. Perfecting Motherhood - September 8, 2012

Looks really good! I’ll have to watch it when it’s out on video for sure.

nrhatch - September 8, 2012

It’s set to be released in about 2 weeks ~ 9/18, I believe.

6. barb19 - September 8, 2012

Morgan Freeman is a brilliant actor, and any movie he is in, is guaranteed to be a success.
Thanks for the heads up on the new movie – I will check it out – although it may be a while before it comes to the Land Down Under.

nrhatch - September 8, 2012

As small as the world has become . . . it still takes time for things to get from HERE to THERE, and vice versa, eh?

7. jannatwrites - September 8, 2012

I wish I had NetFlix…sounds like a good movie. Morgan Freeman is usually pretty good. Thanks for sharing – I hadn’t heard of this movie before now 🙂

nrhatch - September 8, 2012

Netflix allows me to toss an intriguing title into my queue . . . and forget about it until it shows up in my mailbox.

I am often pleasantly surprised when the movie arrives.

8. sufilight - September 8, 2012

Looks good and any movie with Morgan Freeman has to be good! Your quote on writing caught my attention, one I need to hear. 😉

nrhatch - September 8, 2012

Yes! The more I write, the more I want to write . . . the way teaches us the way as the path unfolds before us.

9. Don - September 8, 2012

Looks so good. Morgan Freeman, one of my favourites. I always have a hard time seeing him outside the character of Red in “Shawshank Redemption.”

nrhatch - September 8, 2012

Definitely a defining role for him, Don. A favorite for many of his fans.

10. yazrooney - September 8, 2012

Thanks for the tip, Nancy. Will check this one out. Lots of love, Yaz

11. kateshrewsday - September 8, 2012

This looks lovely…

nrhatch - September 8, 2012

Right up my writer’s alley at the moment.

12. sweetdaysundertheoaks - September 8, 2012

Morgan Freeman is a class act. His voice is wonderful. CH and I will be checking this movie out.

nrhatch - September 8, 2012

His voice has carried many a documentary . . . of course, James Earl Jones gives him a run for the money in that department. 😉

13. Pocket Perspectives - September 8, 2012

thanks for the heads up! We’ve been trying to find good movies!

nrhatch - September 8, 2012

Another interesting flick we watched recently ~ Another Earth. The ending is nebulous, perfect for this introspective film.

Pocket Perspectives - September 9, 2012

We tried, this evening, to get both of the movies through netflix and amazon streaming, but they don’t seem to be available yet. Another Earth will be on HBO Monday night, so we’ll get that one. Thanks for the ideas.

nrhatch - September 9, 2012

I believe Belle Isle releases on DVD on the 18th of this month.

14. spilledinkguy - September 11, 2012

Morgan Freeman has one of the BEST voices of all time (in my humble opinion). He could narrate a phone book and make it seem interesting.

nrhatch - September 11, 2012

Agreed! His voice is sonorous!

15. Booksphotographsandartwork - September 12, 2012

I really enjoyed him with Jack whats his name. The dare I say ugly guy. Having one of those senior moments. The movie Bucket List. Morgan Freeman is a tremendous story actor. I will check this one out.

nrhatch - September 13, 2012

Jack Nicholson . . . you dare and I agree! 😆
