Today: Rainy Day Rockaway . . . Foul Play? June 1, 2012
Posted by nrhatch in Art & Photography, Blogging, Humor.trackback
Today is a rainy day here in the Sunshine State. So I’ve been playing around with a photo taken when we ate at Frenchy’s Rockaway Grill in Clearwater:
Antiqued . . .
Sepia . . .
Black & White . . .
Lithographed . . .
Metallica . . .
Posterized . . .
Oilified . . .
Saturated . . .
Solarized . . .
Sharpened . . .
Soft Glow . . .
Which is your favorite ~ the original photo . . . or one of its offspring?
Yes . . . I cheated. This photo was not “taken today” . . . but, as part of my rainy day play, I created 11 of these 12 Rockaway images today. Is that okay? Will my efforts hold sway? Or will you condemn me for my Foul Play?

Love the lithographed one. Very hip 🙂 We are having a rainy day in Tennessee, too. Hope we all get a little sunshine this weekend!
We need the rain . . . so I can’t complain. And it did give me a chance to play around with PhotoSmart.
Here’s the the return of the SUN for weekend outings.
I like the original, but it’s interesting how much the style in the photo can change the atmosphere!
Isn’t it? I normally share photos without digital enhancement . . . just crop and drop. It was fun to see how a simple shot could adopt an entirely new personality with just a few quick clicks.
Loved the antiqued one. What a good exercise. Inspires me to go off and get out the photoshop…
I had quite a bit of FUN with this little exercise. I may have to play around with a few more photos and see how they look wearing different hats.
I enjoy playing with photshop when doing banners for my website. I like the sepia one, makes me think of the 1930’s. 🙂 It’s not raining here in Oregon but on Monday the temperature is supposed to be in the 50’s.
The Sepia one reminds me of a Mom & Pop dinner serving comfort foods like Mac & Cheese.
And . . . brrr! That’s pretty cold for June.
Did you do this with Photoshop? So many effects created from just one photograph – amazing!
With HP’s PhotoSmart ~ I expect I’m still just skimming the surface . . . but I am having FUN!
Of course, I have to say metallica, because I like Metallica.
Have you eaten at Lenny’s in Clearwater? MTM’s brother-in-law makes us go there for breakfast every time we visit.
It’s very EDGY! We haven’t eaten at Lenny’s ~ I’ll have to give it a google. Our favorite place to eat (between St. Pete’s Beach and Clearwater Beach) is DeLosa’s Pizzeria at John’s Pass Village. Almost as good as the pizza up north (but not quite).
Fun!
‘Twas!
You got good materials to start with but I like the soft glow best. It accentuates the neon signs.
I still have to take a photo for this week’s challenge. The day is over and I didn’t have a minute to even think about it!
Thanks, Milka. Good challenge . . . pick up a camera and shoot “today.” Now that the sun has returned, I may “play by the rules.” Or not. We’ll see. 😀
I think it’s so cool how different each shot looks! I am so looking to getting some new camera tools and finding some funky new methods! Colour me (even more) inspired by your post 🙂
Anne
Most shots on SLTW are posted “as is” . . . without embellishments or enhancements (other than cropping). They are au naturel (like me!). But I had FUN playing around today. Have fun with your new tools, Anne.
Nice touches on that sign. Hope the meal was exciting too. 🙂
The meal was delicious . . . I linked back to its description. 😀
I think I like the Metallica…it stands out for me! You had some artistic fun on a rainy day. Isn’t it fun to get caught up in something that otherwise you’d never find the time to do! Debra
It’s wonderful . . . especially if we are fully immersed in the NOW. Thanks, Debra.
Antiqued, definitely!
When I look at the “different” signs . . . I imagine different food being served. Antique is comfort food like mashed potatoes and mac&cheese.
Uhm????
You bored?
Nope, not at all. Just enjoying the NOW . . .
It’s such fun to play with photo effects 🙂 I like the original, the metallica and the sepia.
I did have FUN. Most times, I’m happy enough with the original, but playing around TODAY gave me a chance to explore possibilities. I’m going to share a few more “enhanced” photos in the days ahead.
It’s nice to play with the images – looks like you had good fun 🙂
I also had fun “flipping through” all the photos in my archives. Definitely a “blast from the past.”
It’s always good to dig back in the archives – lots of good pics and memories 🙂
One thing that surprised me was the “timeline” of certain events. I store most photos in dated folders.
As I skimmed through them, many “recent events” turned out to have happened longer ago than seems possible. And “distant events” happened more recently than I remembered.
I like fooling around with my graphics program features. I like the one that can give different effects to text. In your photos, I like the Sharp one the best. That photo lent itself to being sharpened and looking better for it.
I like most of them . . . guess that means that the sign appeals to me on many different levels.
So many different options. I think I like the original and the sharpened one the best. I do like the sepia, but with all the colors in this one, I had to stick with colors. Looks like you had fun 🙂
I’ve never taken a single photo and applied so many different effects to it. It was fascinating to see how the “mood” changed with each special effect.
I think it’s fascinating to apply a variety of differnet effects to one photo…it’s amazing how the “mood” of an image can change, depending on the effect that’s added….hey, I do that with life…maybe I’ll be more careful about which effects I choose/add…
We do “filter” all our experiences through our habitual attitudes and chosen moods.
I think they are all nice in their own way, Nancy!
I’d say the ‘Antiqued’ version seems very appropriate with your subject matter. Plus… you know… I have a BIT of a thing for retro.
I really like the Lithographed version, too.
🙂
Go Retro! (I thought that one might appeal to your inner artist).
I like the saturated and the sharpened. And for what it’s worth, I think it counts for today.
Thanks, Christine. I didn’t feel like I was “cheating” . . . much. 😀
