Happy “No Socks” Day! May 8, 2012

Today is a special occasion . . . it’s National No Socks Day.  A day when we’re encouraged to free our feet of the socks that bind them!

Our feet work hard every day ~ they deserve the chance to be dipped into a shimmering swimming pool, frolic freely in the sand, traipse naked through the house, or be treated like royalty at an award-winning spa.

Give your feet the vacation they deserve . . . escape to barefoot elegance.

Aah . . . that’s better!

Haha, this made smile. Didn’t know there was a No Socks day. FUN! Wish I could walk barefoot but we are remodeling the kitchen and painting so my footsies need protection for now. 🙂

nrhatch - May 8, 2012

Ooh . . . exciting. I’m sure your feet would rather be protected from splinters, nails, and other construction debris. Maybe a foot rub later?

2. Andrew - May 8, 2012

The National Sock Foundation is not going to be happy about this.

nrhatch - May 8, 2012

Bwahaha! I expect you’re right. On that note, did you know that the NSF is behind the “socks that go missing from the dryer” conspiracy?

Andrew - May 8, 2012

So we buy more socks…It all makes sense now…No!!!

nrhatch - May 8, 2012

Despicable, indeed! 😆

3. Alannah Murphy - May 8, 2012

but I like socks, and my feet get cold without them 😉

nrhatch - May 8, 2012

Down here, most days are “No Socks” days . . . but I refuse to walk about with cold toes in chilly weather.

And I prefer to prefer socks with sneaks for our walk-abouts.

Alannah Murphy - May 8, 2012

Over here, it’s the opposite, at least for me, my feet get so cold so socks are my friends 🙂

nrhatch - May 8, 2012

I love a pair of cozy socks on frigid morns. 😀

4. Crowing Crone Joss - May 8, 2012

cool grass here but I went walking barefoot for few minutes to keep y’all company,.

nrhatch - May 8, 2012

That’s the SPIRIT! 😀

5. Don Scrooby - May 8, 2012

Living in a tropical climate virtually every day here is no socks day. Never knew that such a day existed. Made me chuckle.

nrhatch - May 8, 2012

Yes! Exactly my reaction . . . and as soon as I started chuckling, I knew I need to share the laughter. 😀

6. kateshrewsday - May 8, 2012

Nancy, I have never heard before of this momentous celebration. If you told the people of my wet, cold kingdom to go without socks they might have a few choice responses 😀

nrhatch - May 8, 2012

Alannah (in Highgate) concurs with you . . . @ Comment #3. Maybe that’s why it’s not billed as INTERNATIONAL No Socks Day. 😉

7. loubyjo - May 8, 2012

Ilove sock but have so many pairs it is nice to walk around with no socks but being diabetic have to be careful once a something went into my toe and was not aware for ages later !!!!!!

nrhatch - May 8, 2012

Yes. Be careful. Some celebrants recommend comfy shoes . . . sans socks. A worn in pair of loafers, or sandals, perhaps?

8. suzicate - May 8, 2012

Big smiles over here! I love my naked feet!

nrhatch - May 8, 2012

Quite the FUN day, eh?

9. Paula Tohline Calhoun - May 8, 2012

For me, it should probably be the other way around. Like, National “Put your dang shoes on, Paula!” Day. I hate my shoes, and I hate wearing my shoes – which of course you know, as I have written extensively about that subject.

If I didn’t have to put that blankety-blank brace on my left foot/ankle, I truly believe that I would never put shoes on again – summer/winter, rocks and thorns – who cares? Good way to develop callouses, and I bet I could become a fire-walker too! The thought of going to church barefoot also intrigues me. Since I enter the choir loft after the rest of the congregation is seated, my bare feet would be in full view! Another way to capture the spotlight! just what I need. . .but at least I might get a laugh! SO important to my sanity. . .

Thanks for the notice of the significance of today. So happens I was barefoot all day (except when I went out to vote this evening. . .)

nrhatch - May 8, 2012

Just get yourself a pair of Kick Ass Sandals for church . . . ones that are so comfy your feet thank you for wearing them. 😀

10. Jas - May 9, 2012

I am running for a pedicure right now… 🙂

nrhatch - May 9, 2012

Your feet will be THRILLED!

11. jannatwrites - May 9, 2012

Great, I had this covered and didn’t even know it! I haven’t worn socks for days 🙂

nrhatch - May 9, 2012

Synchronicity at its most unexpected! 😉

12. sweetdaysundertheoaks - May 9, 2012

My sockless feet took me to Book Club yesterday and to lunch with the Book Club gals and turned into an all day road trip. Feet happy in flip-flops. No socks, of course! 😀

nrhatch - May 9, 2012

That sounds lovely, Pix! Having Happy Feet is good. 😀

13. Booksphotographsandartwork - May 9, 2012

How about bed shoes? I like to go barefoot more now than I used to but I really like my bedshoes.

nrhatch - May 9, 2012

I’ve never heard of “bed shoes” before.

14. Pocket Perspectives - May 9, 2012

hooray….summer’s almost here…no socks for months and months…I’m a barefooter, indoors and outdoors….as long as it’s warm….I just love being barefoot…!!

nrhatch - May 9, 2012

Same here, Kathy. Love to go barefoot or just slip on some flip flops. 😀

15. bluebee - May 10, 2012

Does anybody ever wear socks in Florida?!

nrhatch - May 10, 2012

Seldom. From November to March, there might be a day here and there which demands socks to ward off the chill. Other than that, it’s mostly walkers, golfers, tennis players, and other sports enthusiasts wearing socks to inhibit blisters. 😎

16. William D'Andrea - May 10, 2012

I see. It’s going sock-less, not shoe-less. You’re talking about wearing sandals. Where I live, it’s usually to cold to wear only sandals for most of the year. Some people do wear shoes without socks, but I can’t imagine anything so uncomfortable. No end to corns, blisters and limping all the day long.

nrhatch - May 10, 2012

Well, this was just a ONE DAY special event to thank your feet for all they do.

17. Tokeloshe - May 11, 2012

A-h-h!
I’m so looking forward to summer.

nrhatch - May 11, 2012

We are glad to live where we live now . . . with (almost) perpetual summer.

18. wightrabbit - May 12, 2012

I love to go barefoot in the house all year and outside in the summer – but it’s so cold here in England at the moment, that I’m putting my fluffy socks ON! 🙂

nrhatch - May 12, 2012

Enjoy your fluffy socks, Jacqueline. I love going barefoot . . . but only if my toesies are cozy.
