All Hands On Deck! April 14, 2012

Posted by nrhatch in Travel & Leisure.

We’re boating around Anna Maria Island!

Today is Island CityFest . . . a Holmes Beach Founder’s Day Celebration.

In addition to a Classic Car show, Arts & Crafts, a Fitness Zone, six Jamming Bands rocking the stage, and FUN food, the 49-passenger Island Pearl is cruising from the Mainsail Marina . . . with us on board!

We’ll travel through Anna Maria Sound into Tampa Bay, passing the Anna Maria City Pier, while gliding through turquoise waters under sunny skies.

The Island Pearl, originally built in 1991, served as a utility boat in California and shuttled Navy personnel at Pearl Harbor.  Now equipped to navigate the environmentally sensitive Island waters, the Pearl has LED lighting, recycled cork flooring, and other state of the art equipment.

Aah . . . that’s better!

I hope we don’t end up like Gilligan . . . on an uncharted desert isle!

The colour of the sea is unbelievable.
Have loads of fun!

nrhatch - April 14, 2012

Thanks, Granny! I love being out on a boat . . . when the weather is NOT rough.

2. Barefoot Baroness - April 14, 2012

What a great trip you have set out for. Keeping my fingers crossed that your navigating co-pilot is attentive. No Gilligans Island allowed.

nrhatch - April 14, 2012

Exactly. We met the Captain and the 1st Mate yesterday. They seem “sea-worthy.” 😀

3. Rufus' Food and Spirits Guide - April 14, 2012

Looks like a rough life down there.

nrhatch - April 14, 2012

Hi Ho Hi Ho . . . it’s off to PLAY we go.

4. Piglet in Portugal - April 14, 2012

This looks grat fun! Lucky you 🙂

nrhatch - April 14, 2012

This is a wonderful place for boating . . . I prefer being passenger, not crew. Call me “lazy landlubber,” if you will. 😉

5. BrainRants - April 14, 2012

I’m on Rufus’ side here.

nrhatch - April 14, 2012

Great! We’re all in agreement, then. 😀

6. kateshrewsday - April 14, 2012

Looks idyllic, Nancy! Have a wonderful time!

nrhatch - April 14, 2012

Lovely boating weather ~ great captain and crew. We passed by “Gilligan’s Island,” but didn’t get stranded.

7. sufilight - April 14, 2012

Ooh, I love water and boats and such. Have a lot of fun and bring us more pictures! 🙂

nrhatch - April 14, 2012

Thanks, Marie. We had a good time & I took lots of pictures. I’ll look through them later today and see if any are worth sharing.

8. Pocket Perspectives - April 14, 2012

What a fun day! Hope you’re having a wonderful time!

nrhatch - April 14, 2012

We did! Thanks, Kathy. I may share some more photos of our fair island . . . and Gilligan’s Island . . . tomorrow.

9. barb19 - April 14, 2012

The boat looks sea-worthy – have a great time, lucky you!

nrhatch - April 14, 2012

We had a lovely time ~ spent about 2 hours on board. I got to sit “on the bridge” . . . directly behind the Captain. We saw lots of pelicans, herons, egrets, a couple dolphins, and boaters camping on “Gilligan’s Island.”

Listened to soulRcoaster at City Fest for an hour or so ~ they did “Rolling in the Deep” by Adele. That was our favorite song.

barb19 - April 14, 2012

Sounds like you had a blast Nancy, seeing the dolphins would have been awesome. Did you take any photos?

nrhatch - April 14, 2012

I did take photos . . . but wasn’t fast enough to catch any of the dolphins.

10. Life in the Boomer Lane - April 14, 2012

Ooooh, I wish I were there!

nrhatch - April 14, 2012

Lovely day on the water . . . with big fluffy white clouds sprinkled across the sky.

We had room for ya ~ the boat holds 49 passengers and we went out with 22 on board. Gave us a chance to “move about the cabin” a bit.

11. bluebee - April 14, 2012

Looking forward to awesome pics, Nancy

nrhatch - April 14, 2012

Cool! I should get some up tomorrow.

12. Andra Watkins - April 14, 2012

I will have to put this on my list of things to do, Nancy. I *think* we are going to be down there toward the end of June. I will let you know when I know for sure.

nrhatch - April 14, 2012

Excellent! We should be around at the end of June. Would love to meet up. Either here, or there.

13. souldipper - April 14, 2012

Enjoy your cruise…hope they feed you, as well. The weather looks superlative.

nrhatch - April 14, 2012

Beautiful weather ~ breezy and warm. The water was a bit choppy . . . but no one got seasick.

souldipper - April 14, 2012

Except your smiley? 😀

14. Booksphotographsandartwork - April 14, 2012

That blue water in the first photo is heavenly. Just amazing! What a great time that would be.

nrhatch - April 15, 2012

Great day for boating . . . we enjoyed the cruise. That said, sitting inside a tender like the Island Pearl is not as much FUN as sitting topside on a sailboat.

15. sweetdaysundertheoaks - April 15, 2012

Cool picture of Anna Maria Island! It really is a beautiful place Nancy. I enjoyed the info on the Island Pearl too. Glad you enjoyed the cruise!

nrhatch - April 15, 2012

We enjoyed seeing the north end of the island from the water. A new perspective for us.

16. adeeyoyo - April 15, 2012

What a beautiful photo (the top one) – stunning!

nrhatch - April 15, 2012

Andy Price (a friend of a friend) took that photo and allowed me to use it. It’s gorgeous.

17. thirdhandart - April 15, 2012

Beautiful scenery Nancy! So glad that the boat’s name wasn’t the S.S. Minnow. The Island Pearl is much more descriptive anyway. 🙂

nrhatch - April 15, 2012

I love the name of the boat . . . Island Pearl.

BTW: we cruised by “Gilligan’s Island” ~ an unchartered island built up over time from dredging the channel. Now, it’s used for camping by boaters and kayakers.

18. spilledinkguy - April 16, 2012

Float-on, Nancy!

nrhatch - April 16, 2012

One of our favorite holiday movies stars Holly Hunter . . . Home for the Holidays. In it, she and her daughter take turns reminding each other to “Just Float.”

Aah . . . that’s better!

19. Tokeloshe - April 19, 2012

Great post!

When I visit your blog, i always expect my favorite color and a cool sea breeze 😉

nrhatch - April 19, 2012

We love the blues and turquoise here . . . especially mixed with swaying palms and tropical breezes.

20. eof737 - April 22, 2012

You’ve been busy of late… Looks like a fun place to visit. 😉

nrhatch - April 24, 2012

Tomorrow (I think) we are going to Marie Selby Botanical Gardens because the weather is “cool and crisp” for this time of year . . . perfect for wandering around outside.

We’ll see how Tigger is doing in the morning before we decide.

eof737 - April 24, 2012

I envy you… 🙂 Sending hugs and healing love to Tigger… I told ours about him and he curled up and meowed in support… maybe I shouldn’t be saying this… don’t wanna get committed. 😆 Seriously though, I hope Tigger gets stronger by the day. Keep us posted. TY!

nrhatch - April 25, 2012

Thanks, E! We take him back to the vet tomorrow P.M. Our fingers (and paws!) are crossed.

21. Team Oyeniyi - April 24, 2012

*Sigh* just where I’d love to be…… on a cruise….. lovely shots!

nrhatch - April 24, 2012

Thanks, Robyn. It was lovely seeing another side of the island from the water.
