A Few Quotes To Ponder April 5, 2012

We’re only responsible for what we say . . . not for what others choose to hear.

Good things come to those who wait; better things come to those who work for it.

Follow your heart . . . but take your brain with you.

We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned to enjoy the life that is waiting for us.

Stop trying to fit in when you were born to stand out.

Best friends know how crazy we are and still choose to be seen with us in public.

Be thankful for nights that turned into mornings, friends that turned into family, dreams that turned into reality, and likes that turned into love.

Somewhere, someone is happy just because you exist.

Aah . . . that’s better!

If you enjoyed these, thank Granny1947 . . . she sent them to me!

Love them all!

nrhatch - April 5, 2012

Getting on Granny’s “E-List” has been a treat. 😀

2. sweetdaysundertheoaks - April 5, 2012

Thoughtful great quotes to start this Thursday morning! Thanks to Granny and you.

nrhatch - April 5, 2012

After yesterday’s post about the toll of Alzheimer’s . . . something light-hearted seemed just the thing.

3. Piglet in Portugal - April 5, 2012

“Follow your heart . . . but take your brain with you.”

Nice one. It’s amazing how many expats buy a property abroad and view the process through rose tinted spectacles.

“Stop trying to fit in when you were born to stand out.” that’s def me. They broke the mold when they made me 🙂

“Good things come to those who wait; better things come to those who work for it.” but there are those who are born lucky ie they fall in a pile of pooh and still end up smelling of roses, regardless. I fall in a pile of pooh and I smell of pooh. 🙂

nrhatch - April 5, 2012

Yes! Some peer through rose-tinted spectacles and see only what they wish to see . . . then are broad-sided by reality. 😀

4. rmactsc - April 5, 2012

I always enjoy some good motivational quotes. Thanks for sharing them.

nrhatch - April 5, 2012

Same here. I love nuggets like these that say so much in so few words. Thanks, rmactsc.

5. jannatwrites - April 5, 2012

These were all great. I had to laugh at the ‘follow your heart, but take your brain with you’ one – I can recall several times when I forgot the second part of that. Oops!

The first quote seems so you – it reminds me of when you said something like ‘what other people think of me is none of my business.’ I think of that in the moments when I start to care. Nips it in the bud 😆

nrhatch - April 5, 2012

The first quote is first for just that reason ~ it’s me!

I paraphrased the one that came in Granny’s e-mail a bit for a better fit ~ just a nip and tuck. :D.

6. Maggie - April 5, 2012

“We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned to enjoy the life that is waiting for us.”

That one really spoke to me. Thanks, Nancy!

nrhatch - April 5, 2012

That is one that many struggle with ~ they lose a job, a house, or a loved one and get de-railed. They want “their life” back.

But we are ALWAYS living our life:

This IS Your Life

“Life is what happens while we’re busy making plans.” ~ John Lennon

Maggie - April 5, 2012

That’s why I think it’s important to be happy in (and appreciate) whatever circumstance you’re in.

nrhatch - April 5, 2012

Yes! When we resist the “what is” . . . we suffer.

We benefit when we “accept” things as they are . . . rather than insisting they conform to our expectations.

Life is not about stopping the rain . . . it’s learning to dance in the midst of the rain drops.

7. granny1947 - April 5, 2012

My pleasure NR. 🙂

nrhatch - April 5, 2012

Thanks, Granny! I might have to share the one you sent yesterday too . . . parts of it anyway. 😀

8. Tori Nelson - April 5, 2012

“…but take your brain with you.” – that has to be my favorite 🙂

nrhatch - April 5, 2012

Take it . . . and take it OFF “auto pilot.” 😀

9. Andra Watkins - April 5, 2012

All things I needed to read today, Nancy. Especially the ‘better things coming to those who work for it’ one.

nrhatch - April 5, 2012

Excellent! I enjoyed the collection when Granny sent it.

I left a few out that didn’t resonate with me . . . and tailored a few by giving them nips and tucks . . . but shared the rest.

Here’s to “better things.” 😀

10. cuhome - April 5, 2012

This is great, so full of humor and truth! Somehow, the humor let the truths sink in more deeply! Thanks, Nancy.

nrhatch - April 5, 2012

I agree! Humor is a wonderful “adjunct professor.” 😀

11. suzicate - April 5, 2012

All great quotes, but this is my favorite “Stop trying to fit in when you were born to stand out.”

nrhatch - April 5, 2012

I love that one too, Suzi! In fact, I shared it in a “sneak preview” the day it arrived.

Here’s to standing out from the crowd! 😀

12. Three Well Beings - April 5, 2012

“We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned to enjoy the life that is waiting for us.” Good for so many reasons! Each little reminder certainly does add value! Debra

nrhatch - April 5, 2012

Yes! Yesterday, I grew sad from “resisting” the situation with my parents diminishing abilities.

Today is better . . . we can only live happily ever after on a moment by moment basis. Be Here Now. 😀

13. Booksphotographsandartwork - April 5, 2012

Fabulous quotes.

nrhatch - April 5, 2012

Granny sends the best e-mails. Full of laughs and inspiration.

14. spilledinkguy - April 5, 2012

Hahaha…
‘Now, hear this…’
🙂

nrhatch - April 5, 2012

Go ahead . . . spit it out. 😉

spilledinkguy - April 5, 2012

Hahaha… as soon as I did the whole ‘PA’ thing I realized I didn’t have an actual announcement! *smack smack* Is this thing on? (One of those times where I wind up wishing it maybe wasn’t)!
🙂

nrhatch - April 5, 2012

That’s hysterical, SIG. It reminds me of a crazy lady I worked with who loved talking into microphones . . . even when she had nothing of interest/import to say.

As I said . . . she was crazy. 😉

Best friends know how crazy we are and still choose to be seen with us in public.

15. sufilight - April 5, 2012

Nancy, I enjoyed them all. The one of I am responsible for what I say and not what others choose to hear is my favorite one, as everyone percieves the world through their own filters. I also like or rather love “somewhere, someone is happy just because you exist.”

nrhatch - April 5, 2012

Peoples’ perception of our utterances are usually shaded, just a bit, by their own experiences . . . if they get it wrong, it’s a reflection on them, not us.

Sometimes it is enough just to BE. 😀

16. thirdhandart - April 5, 2012

Thank you for sharing these wonderful quotes Nancy and Granny1947. Each and every one resonates with me. 🙂

nrhatch - April 5, 2012

Glad they did, Theresa. A compelling collection, indeed.

17. Rufus' Food and Spirits Guide - April 5, 2012

Ha, you know us married folks are sometimes responsible for what our spouses hear! Shhh….

nrhatch - April 5, 2012

I do. Those 2 words change the entire landscape. 😀

18. Patricia - April 5, 2012

Always like the quotes you pass on. These were great. If only we lived them every day…

nrhatch - April 5, 2012

Thanks, Patricia. Quotes really share a window into how we ought to live. 😀

19. flyinggma - April 6, 2012

Love these quotes and so many others that you have had on your blog especially “Follow your heart but take your brain with you”

Thanks for sharing…you and Granny1947

nrhatch - April 6, 2012

Yes . . . we don’t want to be walking around like the scarecrow singing, “If I only had a brain.” 😉

Glad you enjoyed.

20. bluebee - April 7, 2012

“Somewhere, someone is happy just because you exist.” – this has got me thinking about all the people that I’m happy that exist 🙂

nrhatch - April 7, 2012

That’s AWESOME, BB! Memories of certain people never fail to make me smile. 😀

21. Perfecting Motherhood - April 8, 2012

Stop trying to fit in when you were born to stand out… This is my life motto and what I keep repeating my kids.
Sting said it another way in “An Englishman in NY”: “Be yourself, no matter what they say.” Everybody should live this way, every day. The world would be such an exciting place.

nrhatch - April 8, 2012

Good for you AND Sting . . . keep repeating to your kids.

Three others:

* To be nobody but yourself ~ in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else ~ means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting. ~ e.e.cummings

* He who trims himself to suit everyone else will soon whittle himself away. ~ Raymond Hull

* Be who you are and say what you mean, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind. ~ Dr. Seuss

22. Perfecting Motherhood - April 8, 2012

That e.e. cummings quote is so true, especially when it comes to the school system, where only square holes are available… I’m going to save that quote. I have that Dr Seuss quote already and I love it.

nrhatch - April 8, 2012

As we discussed before, the school system is designed to spit out square pegs . . . and cogs:

Changing Education Paradigms

It’s time for a change!

Perfecting Motherhood - April 8, 2012

I’ve been sitting on my school district’s strategic planning committe team, specifically the one in charge of recommendating changes to the curriculum (content and delivery) and foreign language instruction. I really hope something good comes out of it, as my kids will benefit from it directly.

nrhatch - April 8, 2012

That’s an awesome way to serve . . . especially now that states are starting to be freed from the shackles of the “No Child Left Behind” fiasco.

Maybe we will turn the corner just in the nick of time.

23. Perfecting Motherhood - April 8, 2012

Oh, and this quote too is great. I don’t remember if I got it from you before.

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

nrhatch - April 8, 2012

I think that Elizabeth (Mirth and Motivation) shared that once . . . very similar to ee cummings quote.

Which came first, I wonder? 😀

Emerson was a few years older, but cummings lived quite a few years longer.

24. eof737 - April 22, 2012

There’s been much debate on that quote and it seems that Emerson won out on attributions. 🙂
