Thoughtful great quotes to start this Thursday morning! Thanks to Granny and you.
After yesterday’s post about the toll of Alzheimer’s . . . something light-hearted seemed just the thing.
“Follow your heart . . . but take your brain with you.”
Nice one. It’s amazing how many expats buy a property abroad and view the process through rose tinted spectacles.
“Stop trying to fit in when you were born to stand out.” that’s def me. They broke the mold when they made me 🙂
“Good things come to those who wait; better things come to those who work for it.” but there are those who are born lucky ie they fall in a pile of pooh and still end up smelling of roses, regardless. I fall in a pile of pooh and I smell of pooh. 🙂
Yes! Some peer through rose-tinted spectacles and see only what they wish to see . . . then are broad-sided by reality. 😀

These were all great. I had to laugh at the ‘follow your heart, but take your brain with you’ one – I can recall several times when I forgot the second part of that. Oops!
The first quote seems so you – it reminds me of when you said something like ‘what other people think of me is none of my business.’ I think of that in the moments when I start to care. Nips it in the bud 😆
The first quote is first for just that reason ~ it’s me!
I paraphrased the one that came in Granny’s e-mail a bit for a better fit ~ just a nip and tuck. :D.

That is one that many struggle with ~ they lose a job, a house, or a loved one and get de-railed. They want “their life” back.
But we are ALWAYS living our life:
“Life is what happens while we’re busy making plans.” ~ John Lennon
That’s why I think it’s important to be happy in (and appreciate) whatever circumstance you’re in.
Yes! When we resist the “what is” . . . we suffer.
We benefit when we “accept” things as they are . . . rather than insisting they conform to our expectations.
Life is not about stopping the rain . . . it’s learning to dance in the midst of the rain drops.

Nancy, I enjoyed them all. The one of I am responsible for what I say and not what others choose to hear is my favorite one, as everyone percieves the world through their own filters. I also like or rather love “somewhere, someone is happy just because you exist.”
Peoples’ perception of our utterances are usually shaded, just a bit, by their own experiences . . . if they get it wrong, it’s a reflection on them, not us.
Sometimes it is enough just to BE. 😀

Sting said it another way in “An Englishman in NY”: “Be yourself, no matter what they say.” Everybody should live this way, every day. The world would be such an exciting place.

That e.e. cummings quote is so true, especially when it comes to the school system, where only square holes are available… I’m going to save that quote. I have that Dr Seuss quote already and I love it.

I’ve been sitting on my school district’s strategic planning committe team, specifically the one in charge of recommendating changes to the curriculum (content and delivery) and foreign language instruction. I really hope something good comes out of it, as my kids will benefit from it directly.
That’s an awesome way to serve . . . especially now that states are starting to be freed from the shackles of the “No Child Left Behind” fiasco.
Maybe we will turn the corner just in the nick of time.

Which came first, I wonder? 😀
Emerson was a few years older, but cummings lived quite a few years longer.
There’s been much debate on that quote and it seems that Emerson won out on attributions. 🙂
