Still In The “Spammer Slammer” March 21, 2012
Posted by nrhatch in Blogging, Humor.trackback
Despite e-mails to WP and Akismet proclaiming my innocence (“I am NOT Spam”) . . . most sites are still swallowing anything I try to say whole.
Ha ha . . . joke’s on them!
They’ll probably end up with a bad case of indigestion.
A few blogs have allowed me to comment yesterday and today. Yay!
Swing by Rufus Food & Spirits to check out Greg and Katharine’s yummy post on all things strawberry ~ you’ll be drooling, no fooling!
On another fruity note, PiP needs a tip about what to do with her unusual pot ~ it’s unsuitable for forcing rhubarb, but might make a unique hat.
Mirth & Motivation welcomed Spring with FLOWERS!
Kate “unspammed” several of my comments yesterday. This morning, I joined Kate for a Chat Over Coffee . . . and my comment posted without first being relegated to the cyber dungeons.
Andra “unspammed” yesterday’s comment on MAXIM. Freed from cyber purgatory, I paid a visit to her latest post . . . The Attack of the Killer Boobs ~ definitely a good reminder to check the small print when ordering on-line.
Suzicate used her boundless Springtime Energy to travel through time and space . . . from Braveheart to Beach to Garden . . . in a single post.
So I know I’m not a Cyber Ghost.
Yet.

Sorry comments are closed for this entry
I haven’t heard anything from them either, Nancy. This must be a pretty serious problem, because they are saying blip about it anywhere I can find.
If I hear something from my query, I’ll let you know right away what they tell me.
My comments are posting on some sites . . . and getting tossed into the SPAM folder on others. Kate found 3 of my comments in her SPAM folder. Janna too. My comment on your MAXIM post is probably mixed in with your SPAM . . .
Let’s plan a Jail Break! 😉
Yep. There you were. I unspammed you. Now, see if you can comment without that problem on my blog. Maybe that will fix it. I found several other real commenters in there.
Yes! Fixed on your site, PiP’s site, and Kate’s site.
Visitors released from the Spammer Slammer are unleashed to comment without being dragged throught the cyber dungeons. 😀
Hi Nancy,
I’ve been checking my SPAM box in case you commented on my latest post…and you are not in there.
It took about a week for me to resolve the problem when it happened to me.
I left TWO comments on your rhubarb pot post this morning . . . both went missing the minute I hit “post comment.”
Are you sure they aren’t in your SPAM folder?
They weren’t there earlier, but they are now! You are duly unspammed!
Thanks, PiP! I am now able to post on your Blog without “going to jail” first. 😀
So sorry you’re still in the slammer, but happy you were able to visit with me! Does this mean we are partners in crime? It’s ok, I’m sure you know a good attorney for us!
Partners in crime “on the lam.”
I do know a few good attorneys if I end up back in jail. 😉
I think this is the strangest thing. I read PIP’s comments to EC earlier this morning and headed over to the WP forums to see just what was going on. I am so befuddled by the whole comment bug or not a bug or WP’s change in comments that my brain is fried. Your comments have been showing up just fine at my blog. Why would you be thrown in spam?! Befuddled in MissouREE.
Now, every time I press “post comment” . . . I hold my breath to see if it appears or disappears.
Once PiP, Andra, and Kate “unspammed” me, their sites allowed my next comment to post ~ so we can fix it from our end on a site by site basis. But only if people remember to check their SPAM folders.
I think there is another larger problem with WP comments at the moment ~ especially for people not logged in to a WP account. That may take a bit more for WP to sort out.
Aah . . . Pix. We spoke too soon.
I just tried to post on your “Barn Charm” post and my comment VANISHED into Cyber Air. I expect you’ll find it in your SPAM folder.
Yes you were in the spam folder! That is just crazy making! Why? I ask. Why? It is a befuddlement.
I don’t know WHY . . . but I do know I’ll be glad when the issue is sorted out. I’m tired of holding my breath each time I press “post comment” to see if it appears or disappears.
You’re not alone, Nancy! I had others tell me to check my SPAM folder for their comments…and yep! There they were. So strange, and I guess the only thing I can think to do is regularly look in the folder and just make sure I don’t have a friend trapped in there 🙂 Hope your own situation is indeed temporary! 🙂 Glad you wrote about it, though, so that we can all stay tuned in! Debra
I make it a practice to check my SPAM folder daily ~ I delete all the real SPAM and release the rest.
It’s easy to do and makes visitors who comment feel “welcome.”
I just tried to wish you a Happy Birthday on this post:
It disappeared! POOF! I expect you’ll find it in your SPAM folder.
Yep! There you were 🙂 Thanks so much, Nancy. I did have a lovely time of it…now on to my new decade with gusto! D
Yay! Thanks for letting me out . . . now I can comment on your blog again. 😀
Here’s to a year / decade filled with “all manner of good things.”
Hope that gets fixed soon. No fooling.
Your blog allows me to post at will . . . proving you’re not just a genius . . . you’re a gracious post host, as well. 😉
I caught you there – twice – this morning. I indicated as to how your comments are not spam, but that perhaps they were confused thinking that you eat a lot of it. I also disabused them of that error – I told them you are a vegetarian!
Good luck!
😆
Exactly! How could they ever accuse a vegetarian of being SPAM?! It makes no sense whatsoever. 🙄
That has to be so frustrating… I hope it’s cleared up very soon Nancy.
Thanks, Theresa. I’m about to head round to your site right now. Fingers crossed that I can comment . . .
No luck. My comment got swallowed up, Theresa.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to rescue it from the SPAM folder.
I gladly accepted the mission. Your comment has been rescued from my SPAM folder. And, thank you for commenting! 🙂
Thanks, Theresa. It’s nice to be elevated from SPAM to Welcome Visitor. 😀
Nancy, I haven’t posted for a week so check my post today. I’ll clear you if you hit jail!
Thanks, Amy. I’ll head round straight away.
I pressed “post comment” and my thoughts disappeared from cyber view in nanoseconds.
Maybe I need one of those “Get Out Of Jail” cards from Monopoly?
I unspammed you! So it did transmit. What a nuisance!
Thanks, Amy. At some point, it’ll get sorted out . . . at least on blogs where the SPAM filter is cleared out periodically. 😀
How frustrating, Nancy 😦
Thanks, BB. As life goes, blocked blogging comments is a minor frustration . . . so I’m trying to laugh about it and keep it in perspective.
A far more frustrating situation (with no ready resolution) looms on my horizon. In comparison, this is “small peas.”
Nancy, Just unspammed you and had to approve the comment. Imagine ME approving YOUR comments! WordPress has gone loco. 😉 I have this weird problem in my other WP site which is a website and blog, have to approve my own comments. Since it’s not getting any traffic yet, I can take my time to contact WP support.
Yup, the WP world is loco at the moment. So, let’s do the loco~motion! 😀
That’s so funny that you have to approve your own comments! What does WP think . . . that you might NOT approve of what you’ve said?!
I, on the other hand, got an email from someone who read my blog and thought it might be fun to hit on the crone!!
That’s funny, Joss.
So far, I haven’t had any propositions or proposals . . . except for SPAMMERS trying to SELL me something.
WordPress has been very burpy lately. Hope your commenting ability is restored fully.
In the greater scheme of things, it’s just a small {{blip}} on the radar . . . but it has been time-consuming and tedious.
I want to scream from the WP rafters: “Bloggers, before you start your engines for the day . . . check your SPAM folders.”
Your comment got the ‘red carpet’ treatment today – went straight to Approved. Hope it’s back to normal now…but at any rate, I do read my Spam, too, so I can restore any of your comments that do end up there.
Thanks, Janna. I love getting the red carpet treatment. 😀
Checking our SPAM folders is a good way to ensure that none of our regular visitors have been snared for no good reason.
What a drag… Hope it’s been resolved. Follow up with Akismet. Your comments are fine on my blog. 🙂
Yes, your blog welcomed me with open arms. 😀
My spam folder is usually pretty good at discerning which comments are fake and which are legitimate. You’ve never appeared there. Odd.
My comments are disappearing from your blog, Maggie. On “Evangeline” and on “Just Say No.” I expect that they are loitering about in your SPAM folder waiting to “make bond.”
I haven’t had any issues with this at all. Hope you get back amongst the living – uh,er the commenting.
We’re getting there . . . one blog at a time. Still no response from WP Support or Akismet. 😦
I ran into this problem a couple weeks ago and was very frustrated until I figured out what had happened. After I notified Asksmet they fixed the problem pretty quickly, but until I realized that was the problem I had a lot of lengthy comments that ended up in spam folders and probably never got read.
It’s sad to be labeled as a pariah when you know you didn’t do anything wrong, but what I want to know is how does it happen?

Tossing It Out
Sometimes it happens if we post similar comments in rapid succession. But, in this case, I have NO IDEA since all my comments were tailored to the specific post. Odd. 🙄
Ugh… sounds very frustrating, Nancy!
I’ve noticed from time to time folks who have been very good about me mysteriously seem to wind up in my spam folder… which is a bummer (I think it’s just getting greedy and looking for some nice, real comments for a change)!
🙂
I am now able to comment on every blog that has “released me from the SLAMMER” . . . but I’m still in the cyber dungeon on more than a few blogs.
Best thing to do is to check our SPAM folders regularly to SPRING welcome guests and delete real SPAM.
I’ll have to check my spam folder, if I can find it.
Click “Comments” and “SPAM” and the folder opens up to reveal its contents. Just don’t be taken in by all the gratuitous compliments from real spammers . . . they’re insidious. 🙄
You are not being spammed over my way, so if you did drop by, your comments were swollowed whole by Akismet!
I don’t think any went missing on your blog . . . but I didn’t comment on all posts because of the problem. I’ll be back around soon.
