A Few Quotes Bumped Into Me Today March 14, 2012

“Great quotes make the light bulb go off in my mind. If you’re like me, you’ll jump at the chance to bypass all the churning and scoop the cream right off the top ~ that is what quotes are . . . the cream of our learning!”
~ Zig Ziglar
So . . . here’s some cream for your coffee:
“It is a funny thing about life; if you refuse to accept anything but the best you very often get it.” ~ W. Somerset Maugham
“Golf is a matter of confidence. If you think you cannot do it, there is no chance you will.” ~ Henry Cotton
Attitude, not aptitude, determines altitude.
Whether you think you can, or you think you cannot, you’re probably right.
“Golf without bunkers and hazards would be tame and monotonous. So would life.” ~ B.C. Forbes
We build our muscles by flexing them.
“The more I practice, the luckier I get.” ~ Gary Player
“People always call it luck when you’ve acted more sensibly than they have.” ~ Anne Tyler
“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” ~ Martin Luther King
Just leap . . . and the net appears.
“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” ~ William Arthur Ward
Feel inspired? Great! If not . . . keep practicing!
Aah . . . that’s better!
Care to share a quote that floats your boat? Or helps you tread water?
For collections of quotes on Golf, Leadership, Joy . . . Simple Truths.
Imagination is more important than knowledge. Albert Einstein
Well behaved women rarely make history. 🙂
Good ones, Andra.
Einstein’s right ~ vision and imagination expand our knowledge beyond the boundaries of the nearest horizon.
Here’s to behaving as we will! 😀
True and true 😀
A proverb from the Pennsylvania Dutch:
We get too soon old and too late smart.
😀
That’s perfect, Ruth! Too true.
“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” ~ Martin Luther King – this is one of my favorites!
Mine too! A journey of a thousand steps begins with a single step . . . but often it’s a doozy! 😉
“Playing the game usually does not have anything to do with a game and a team player means you must eat crow.” Carl D’Agostino 3/14/12
Thanks, Carl. Appreciate your original contribution! 😀
A lovely round of quotes. If we put that expectation out there, the universe responds.
That’s been my experience, Kate ~ with house hunting, job hunting, and chocolate hunting. 😀
I love the one “whether you think you can or think you cannot, you’re probably right.” that’s one of my all time favorites. Another of my favorites is Eleanor Roosevelt’s, “No one can make you feel inferior without your permission.”
Eleanor’s quote is spot on, Christine! Definitely one of my favorites.
Great quote collection!
Thanks, Matt. Quotes often contain just the right nugget of succinct wisdom . . . perfect for sharing.
Attitude, not aptitude, determines altitude… Yes, but try saying it 10 times really fast.
When I do . . . I go spinning out of control! 😉
These are great. Here a couple of my favourites, not nearly as deep:
1) Birthdays are good for your health. The more you have, the older you get. (unknown)
2) No cat has two tails. One cat has one more tail than no cat. Therefore a cat has three tails. (unknown)
3) It is better to capture one photo to many, than later regret that you didn’t. (pix & kardz)
4) Any meal tastes ten times better if eaten in good company or while outdoors. Nothing surpasses a meal eaten in good company while outdoors. (just made that up, but it’s true) 🙂
Thanks, Kris. You gave me a smile this morning . . . I’ll be thinking about no cat all day. I’m with you on the good company outdoors meals being the best.
I love your quote about the teacher!
I’m not a big fan of Dr Seuss but I love this quote of his:
“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.” ~ Dr. Seuss
The teacher quote is so true. Learning by rote memorization is not nearly as effective as being inspired to keep learning.
That Dr. Seuss quote is a fave of mine . . . it’s on my Brief Bio page. 😀
I keep this one at my desk: “I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do.” Helen Keller 🙂 Debra
Helen Keller is very inspiring . . . her life, her words, and her deeds.
I love the MLK quote. He has had several quotes that I have been drawn to.
Thanks for sharing the quotes…I do enjoy reading this little tidbits of wisdom 🙂
I’m a big fan of quotes . . . especially those that can be taken in more than one way . . . or that have antonyms. E.g., “absence makes the heart grow fonder” but “out of sight, out of mind.” 😉
I love all of Einstein’s quotes, and which I often share in Facebook. I love quotes that make me think in a different way or add clarity to a thought. Thanks for the share! 🙂
I agree. I also like quotes that remind me to accept things as they are, without wasting energy tilting at windmills ~ e.g., “do what you can with what you have where you are.”
Love the quote by Anne Tyler. I am all for #4 by Kris up there in comment #9!! A quote I love, “Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads.” ~ Thoreau
I love, love, love the Anne Tyler quote! When we make better decisions . . . we tend to get “lucky.”
Cheers to good food, good friends, and good chats . . . with heaven above and below us!
“We tend to live up to our expectations” -Earl Nightingale
That’s an excellent reminder to set the bar high enough that we need to S~T~R~E~T~C~H to reach it. 😀
Great quotes, Nancy. I think we must always challenge ourselves throughout our lives. We are often surprised at our success!
Yes! We change, we grow, we evolve . . . or we stagnate.
One of my favorites has always been,
‘It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt.’
(I’ve seen it attributed to both Lincoln and Twain… and others.)
Now if only I could follow the advice!
🙂
Wonderful quote . . . no matter who uttered it the first time.
I ALWAYS keep my mouth shut . . . unless I have something to say. 😉
In ‘real-life’ I tend to be fairly quiet…
but that’s probably because my foot is usually stuck in my mouth!
😉
Bwahaha! I expect that you are circumspect at all times . . . except when you are not. 😀
Love the quotes! I find quotes can really motivate a person to reach out, take a risk and try something new…after all, “if you don’t play, you can’t win”…I think that is the tagline for the lottery commission. 🙂
I’ve passed along two well-deserved awards to you…perhaps you’ve already received them in the past…but we all need a pat on the back now and then. 🙂
The Kreativ Blog Award and The Sunshine Award

Thank you for always inspiring me, making me look within and smile!
Thanks, Vivian! There are so many creative and inspiring blogs out there . . . thanks for thinking of SLTW! 😀
Here’s to taking chances on new adventures!
[…] quote Nancy, Arrrrh, that’s […]
I quoted you, quoting………… 🙂
I always like: “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” ~ Martin Luther King
There are many times in life that taking that first step “in the dark” caused the rest of the path to unfold before me. 😀
Yes, but I’d prefer fewer bunkers! 🙂
Bluebee! Good to see you back from the “bunkers.”
Here’s hoping you soon have a “hole-in-one” to keep up your momentum on the greens!
Love a good quote! I tried golf once and I was rubbish 🙂
The only thing about golf that appeals to me is riding around in a golf cart to visit other golfers.
And miniature golf / putting is fun.
Excellent quotes and I love any quotes from Zig Ziglar. 😉
Zig Ziglar is a great name ~ definitely stands out in a crowd.
These are brilliant 🙂 I especially like the one with attitude, aptitude and altitude :D. I also collect quotes in diffirent languages but I dont know how popular would they be here….
Here is another one for you… I hope you will enjoy it.
Quiet is peace. Tranquility. Quiet is turning down the volume knob on life. Silence is pushing the off button. Shutting it down. All of it. – Amir”
— Khaled Hosseini (The Kite Runner)
Silence allows inner wisdom to surface. Thanks, Paula.
