Born in Delhi, India, in 1926, Shanti Devi claimed at a young age to have memories of her previous life.
Among other things, she recalled:
* Her name ~ Lugdi Devi
* Her husband’s name ~ Kedar Nath
* Her village ~ Mathura
* Her death ~ 10 days after giving birth to a child
At four years of age, Shanti Devi told her parents that she didn’t belong with them . . . that her husband and son lived in Mathura.
When questioned, she described the house she had lived in, its furnishings, and even where she had buried some money.
When her past life husband arrived, unannounced, she recognized him. She also recognized other members of her previous extended family.
From Wikipedia:
When Mahatma Gandhi heard about the case, he met the child and set up a commission to investigate. The commission traveled with Shanti Devi to Mathura, arriving on November 15, 1935. There she recognized several family members, including the grandfather of Lugdi Devi.
She found out that Kedar Nath had neglected to keep a number of promises he had made to Lugdi Devi on her deathbed. She then traveled home with her parents.
The commission’s report concluded that Shanti Devi was indeed the reincarnation of Lugdi Devi.
Her story, considered one of the most compelling and well-documented claims of reincarnation ever investigated, is addressed more fully in a book by award-winning Swedish journalist, Sture Lonnerstrand: “I Have Lived Before” ~ The True Story of the Reincarnation of Shanti Devi.”
The book includes many of the past life recollections of Shanti Devi which have been confirmed through independent investigation, and “also reveals the extremely vivid memories of her experiences after Death, the period between her lives, and the return to a physical body.”
